was carried by
private bag to
Copenhagen post
office where a stamp
was applied. This
cover then received a
machine cancel and
was forwarded to its final address.
La Fig. 22 montre une lettre postée à destination de Copenhague en octobre 1961. Elle a été transportée
par sac privé au bureau de poste de Copenhague où un timbre a été apposé. Cette lettre a ensuite reçu une
oblitération mécanique et a été transmise à son adresse finale.

7. GHANAIAN Contingent / Contingent GHANEEN

Fig. 23 shows a cover from one of the Ghana troops addressed to the Ghana Broadcasting System in
Accra, Ghana, sent in August 1961. Ghana was one of the first contingents to arrive in the Congo. Several
of the troops acted as police officers. This cover was sent post free through the U.N. postal system.
However, Ghana set up two Forces Post Offices in the Congo. Mail sent through this service received the
double circle GHANA datestamp rather than the ONUC datestamp. The datestamp above is inscribed ‘PO
F No. 1 FRANKED / GHANA’ – applied in Forces Post Office No. 1. I can record several examples of
the No. 1 F.P.O. but as yet have not seen an example from the No. 2 F.P.O.

La Fig. 23 montre une lettre d'un membre des troupes ghanéennes adressée à la Broadcasting System à
Accra, au Ghana, envoyée en août 1961. Le Ghana a été l'un des premiers contingents à arriver au Congo.
Plusieurs de ces soldats ont agi en tant que policiers. Cette lettre a été expédiée en franchise postale par le
biais du système postal des Nations Unies. Cependant, le Ghana a mis en place deux bureaux de Poste
aux Armées au Congo. Le courrier envoyé via ce service a reçu le dateur GHANA à double cercle plutôt
que le dateur ONUC. Le dateur ci-dessus comporte la mention « PO F No 1 FRANKED / GHANA » -
appliqué dans le bureau de Poste aux Armées no 1. J’ai recensé plusieurs exemples du F.P.O. No 1, mais
je n'ai pas encore vu d'exemple du F.P.O. N°2.
