Viewmont opened its doors to its first students on Monday, August 31, 1964. VHS history begins a few years before those doors opened.

A half-century of VHS starting from the first decade: 1962

  * 12/14/1962 Davis County School Board approves funding for the construction of the
                        yet-to-be-named Viewmont High School.


  * 11/30/1962 Future VHS co-eds enliven the holidays at Bountiful Junior High.

  * 11/30/1962 Future VHS football stand-outs recognized at Tolman Elementary.

  * 11/30/1962 Future VHS Class of 1971 Varsity Football Team member wins "Punt, Pass,
                        and Kick" award.


  * 11/09/1962 In the event of nuclear attack, run home. Really fast!

  * 11/09/1962 Mr. Bailey and his wife, Gayle, have their first baby boy. Peanut butter and chocolate
                        chip sandwiches can't be far behind!


  * 11/02/1962 Future VHS Class of 1967 puts on assembly at South Davis Junior High.

  * 10/19/1962 Kaysville Jr. High School girls prepare for future VHS leadership roles.

  * 09/07/1962 Bountiful City prepares for future VHS date nights by building a new roller skating rink.

  * 08/31/1962 Davis County's 3 high schools anticipate the strain of future enrollment increases.
                        VHS can't come online soon enough.


  * 06/08/1962 Construction begins on Keith O'Brien store at "new" Five Points Shopping Center.
                        Shopping for Back-to-School VHS clothing will soon be much easier!


  * 03/30/1962 VHS isn't off the drawing board when Bountiful City asks for a larger gymnasium
                        and auditorium.


  * 03/23/1962 Fascinating article from March 23, 1962 Deseret News and Telegram:
                        "We're winning in Viet Nam".


  * 03/23/1962 Davis School Board approves the construction of the yet to be named north
                        Bountiful high school.


  * 03/16/1962 Then Senator Wallace F. Bennett announces $1 million of Viewmont's projected
                        $1.7 million construction cost has been obtained from the Federal Government.


  * 01/18/1962 Mr. Darrell (American Problems) Bailey marries Miss Gayle Hayward.
