“SURTAXE AERIENNE INSUFFISANTE” markings are found on mails using the Imperial Airways
line to Europe, or on mail to the USA & various foreign destinations, or on printed rate mail and…. on
mail to Belgium. What conclusions can be drawn? Why do some mails take the plane though underpaid,
while others are rejected and become ordinary mails with the mention of insufficient airmail fees?
Problems with certain airlines, during a given period? Postman’s preference, knowing the sender or not?

(01.01.31) à 1.25 Fr /20gr + surtaxe aérienne via Imperial Airways de 3 Fr/10gr (3x). La lettre pesant plus
de 10 gr, l’affranchissement à 4F de surtaxe aérienne est insuffisant – manque 2 F.
