program with UC San Diego in language and communicative disorders, a nationally
approved field, moving the partnership closer to fruition.
To support the chapter’s expanding communications needs, Leslie announced plans to
hire a part-time, paid assistant to support Website and Electronic Communications
Manager Rob Healey, ensuring continuity and reducing deadline pressures.
The program portion of the meeting featured an inspiring
presentation by former ARCS Scholar Christina Arias-Liles, a
Water Resource Control Engineer with the San Diego Regional
Water Quality Control Board. Christina shared insights into the
Board’s vital role in protecting local water quality and reflected
on her career path since receiving ARCS support as an SDSU civil
engineering graduate student in 1999–2000.
The meeting concluded on a high
note as President-elect Ingrid
Benirschke-Perkins announced
Laurie Roeder as the San Diego
Chapter’s 41st ARCS Light. Laurie
Kristin Boyd and was honored for more than a
Paulette Roberts decade of extraordinary service
and leadership, including three
consecutive years as Vice President of Membership. Ingrid
praised Laurie’s generosity, teamwork, and un-wavering
commitment to fostering connection, noting that “above Rachel Collins and
all, Laurie devoted herself to ensuring that every member Candace Kohl
felt welcomed, supported, and valued.”
