INSIDER April 2026
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE…
V describe our Chapter, and after reading
“ ibrant” remains my favorite word to
through these pages that report on the
past three months’ activities, I think you’ll agree.
From our general meetings to field trips and gatherings
with our educational partners, our board and commit-
tee members have created engaging, meaningful
experiences that bring our mission to life. These efforts
Leslie Bruce do more than fill a calendar; they strengthen our
community and deepen our shared commitment to
supporting scientific research and the next generation of scientists.
And now, some truly great news: our application to designate the Sanford
Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute as an official educational partner has
been unanimously approved by the ARCS National University Relations
Committee. The recommendation now moves to the National Board for a final
vote on May 15, so fingers crossed for a successful outcome there as well.
Finally, I’m delighted to remind you of our upcoming Scientist of the Year
Celebration, one of the highlights of our year for member engagement. We’ll
gather once again at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center on Sunday,
May 17, from 4:00–8:00 pm (tickets available here). It promises to be an inspiring
evening, with our Scholars taking the stage to trumpet fanfare and our honoree,
Dr. Sonia Ancoli-Israel, sharing her groundbreaking research. I have no doubt
that members and guests alike will leave uplifted and newly energized in support
of our mission. It is always a truly special night, and I look forward to celebrating
together.
Warmly,
Leslie K. Bruce, President
ARCS Foundation, San Diego Chapter
