LITTLE RANN OF KUTCH

The Little Rann of Kutch (LRK) is a geographically unique land-

scape that was once an arm of the Arabian Sea. LRK is an impres-

sive mixture of arid flat land, desert grassland, scrub-land, lakes

and marshes. LRK is a birders paradise.Birds found here include

steppe, imperial, and short-toed eagles, Houbara bustard, flamin-

gos, pelicans, storks and cranes. You can expect to see large flocks

of larks and other dry-land birds such as sand grouse, coursers,

plovers, chats, warblers, babblers and shrikes.

• Location - About 100 KM from Ahmedabad.

• Where to stay - Google for resorts at Little Rann of Kutch and

you will get many options. My vote goes to Bhavna farm and re-

sort at Patdi. These resorts also arrange safaris into LRK.

• When to Visit - November to January
