Jesus is Transfigured
(1) He said to them, "Truly I say to YOU, That there are some of those who stand here, who shall not taste of death, until they have seen the kingdom of God come with power."
(2) After six days Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John, and led them up onto a high mountain privately by themselves; and he was transfigured before them.
(3) His garments became shining, exceedingly white as snow; such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
(4) And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
(5) Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
(6) For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified.
(7) And there was a cloud that overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son; hear him."
(8) Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no man anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.
(9) As they came down from the mountain, he ordered them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, until the Son of man had risen from the dead.
(10) So they kept it to themselves, questioning one another what "rising from the dead" meant.
(11) They asked him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
(12) And he answered and told them, "Elijah truly comes first, and restores all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be treated with contempt.
(13) But I say to YOU, That Elijah has already come, and they did to him whatever they desired, as it is written of him."
The Boy with an Evil Spirit
(14) And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude around them, and the scribes questioning them.
(15) Immediately all the people, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him greeted him.
(16) He asked the scribes, "What are YOU questioning them about?"
(17) Then one of the multitude answered and said, "Master, I have brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit;
(18) And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; and he foams, and gnashes his teeth, and wastes away; I spoke to your disciples and asked them to cast it out; but they could not."
(19) He answered him, and said, "O faithless generation, how long shall I be with YOU? How long shall I sustain YOU? Bring him to me."
(20) And they brought him to him; and when he saw him, immediately the spirit violently shook him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.
(21) He asked his father, "How long has it been since this came to him?" And he said, "From childhood."
(22) Often it has thrown him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him; but if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us."
(23) Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes."
(24) Immediately the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief."
(25) When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, "Thou mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and enter into him no more."
(26) Then the spirit cried, and convulsed him greatly, and came out of him; and he was as one who was dead; so much so that many said, "He is dead."
(27) But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
(28) When he came into the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why could we not cast him out?"
(29) And he said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing, but by prayer and fasting."
Foretells His Death and Resurrection
(30) Then they departed from there, and passed through Galilee; and he desired that no man would know about it.
(31) For he taught his disciples, and said to them, "The Son of man is being delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after he is killed, he shall rise the third day."
(32) But they did not understand that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
Exhorts His Disciples to Humility
(33) And he went to Capernaum; and once in the house he asked them, "What was it that YOU disputed among yourselves on the way?"
(34) But they held their peace; for on the way they had disputed among themselves, who was the greatest.
(35) Then he sat down, and called the 12, and said to them, "If any man desires to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all."
(36) He took a child, and set him in the midst of them; and when he had taken him in his arms, he said to them,
(37) "Whoever shall receive one such child in my name, receives me; and whoever shall receive me, receives not me, but him who sent me."
(38) John answered him, saying, "Master, we saw one casting out devils in your name, and he did not follow us; and we forbade him, because he did not follow us."
(39) But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him; for there is no man who shall do a miracle in my name, who can soon afterward speak evil of me.
(40) For he who is not against us is on our side.
(41) For whoever shall give YOU a cup of water to drink in my name, because YOU belong to Christ, truly I say to YOU, he shall not lose his reward.
Temptations and Trespasses
(42) But whoever shall cause to stumble one of these little ones that believe in me, it would be better for him if a millstone were hanged around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.
(43) And if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go to hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched.
(44) Where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.
(45) And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter lame into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched.
(46) Where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.
(47) And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
(48) Where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.
(49) For everyone shall be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice shall be seasoned with salt.
(50) Salt is good, but if the salt has lost his saltiness, how will YOU season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another."
