Leviticus 27

Rules About Valuations

(1) The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

(2) "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, 'When a man makes a special vow, the persons shall be for the LORD by your valuation,

Valuation of a Person

(3) and your valuation of a male from 20 years old to 60 years old, your valuation shall be 50 shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary.

(4) If it is a female, then your valuation shall be 30 shekels.

(5) And if from five years old to 20 years old, then your valuation shall be for a male 20 shekels, and for a female 10 shekels.

(6) If from a month old to five years old, then your valuation shall be for a male five shekels of silver, and for a female your valuation shall be three shekels of silver.

(7) And if he is 60 years old or above, then if a male your valuation shall be 15 shekels, and for the female 10 shekels.

(8) But if he is too poor to pay your valuation, then he shall present himself before the priest, and the priest shall value him, according to the ability of him who vowed; the priest shall value him.

Valuation of an Animal Given by Vow

(9) If it is an animal that men bring as an offering to the LORD, all that any man gives of such to the LORD shall be holy.

(10) He shall not alter it, nor exchange it, good for bad, or bad for good; and if he shall at all exchange animal for animal, then it and the exchange of it shall be holy.

(11) If it is an unclean animal, of which they do not offer as a sacrifice to the LORD, then he shall present the animal before the priest;

(12) The priest shall value it, whether it is good or bad; as you, the priest, values it, so shall it be.

(13) But if he will indeed redeem it, then he shall add a fifth to your valuation.

Valuation of a House

(14) When a man shall sanctify his house to be holy to the LORD, then the priest shall value it, whether it is good or bad; as the priest shall value it, so shall it stand.

(15) And if he that sanctified it desires to redeem his house, then he shall add a fifth of the money to your valuation, and it shall be his.

Valuation of a Field

(16) If a man shall sanctify to the LORD some part of a field of his possession, then your valuation shall be according to the seed needed for it; a homer of barley seed shall be valued at 50 shekels of silver.

(17) If he sanctifies his field from the year of jubile, according to your valuation it shall stand.

(18) But if he sanctifies his field after the jubile, then the priest shall count to him the money according to the years that remain until the year of the jubile, and it shall be subtracted from your valuation.

(19) If he who sanctified the field will at any time redeem it, then he shall add a fifth of the money of your valuation to it, and it shall surely be his.

(20) But if he will not redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed anymore.

(21) But the field, when it goes out in the jubile, shall be holy to the LORD, as a field devoted; it shall be the possession of the priest.

(22) And if a man sanctifies to the LORD a field which he has bought, which is not of the fields of his possession,

(23) then the priest shall count to him the worth of your valuation, up to the year of the jubile; and he shall give your valuation on that day, as a holy thing to the LORD.

(24) In the year of the jubile the field shall return to him from whom it was bought, to him to whom the possession of the land belonged.

(25) All your valuations shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary; 20 gerahs to a shekel.

(26) Only the firstborn of the animals, which should be the LORD’S firstborn, no man shall sanctify it; whether it is an ox, or sheep, it is the LORD’S.

(27) And if it is an unclean animal, then he shall redeem it according to your valuation, and shall add a fifth to it; or if it is not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to your valuation.

No Devoted Thing May Be Redeemed

(28) But no devoted thing, that a man shall devote to the LORD of all that he has, both man and animal, and of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD.

(29) No one devoted, who shall be devoted of men, shall be redeemed; but shall surely be put to death.

Instruction on Tithes

(30) All the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S; it is holy to the LORD.

(31) If a man desires at all to redeem any of his tithes, he shall add to it a fifth of it.

(32) And concerning the tithe of the herd, or the flock, of whatever passes under the rod, a tenth shall be holy to the LORD.

(33) He shall not search whether it is good or bad, neither shall he exchange it; and if he exchanges it at all, then both it and the one exchanged to shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.’ ”

(34) These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel on mount Sinai.
