Genesis 11:1

KJV:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

Notes: "Earth" highlighted in the KJV verse is Strong’s H776 with a Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance definition of: "From an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land) — X common, country, earth, field, ground, land, X natins, way, + wilderness, world."


Genesis 11:2

KJV:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar ; and they dwelt there.

KJVu: 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar , and they dwelt there.


Genesis 11:3

KJV:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

Notes: "Go to" highlighted in the KJV verse is Strong’s H3051 with a Strong’s definition of "5 = come now (originally grant, permit), before voluntative: Genesis 11:3,4,7."


Genesis 11:4

KJV:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven ; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

KJVu: 4 And they said, "Come now, let us build a city and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven , and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth. "

Notes: "Upon" highlighted in the KJV verse is Strong’s H5921 with a Strong’s definition of "upon, above, over." In this context "over" was the most clear.


Genesis 11:5

KJV:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

KJVu: 5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men had built.


Genesis 11:6

KJV:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language ; and this they begin to do : and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

KJVu: 6 The LORD said, "Behold, the people are one, and they all have one language , and this is what they have begun to do . Now nothing which they have imagined to do will be restrained from them.


Genesis 11:7

KJV:7 Go to, let us go down , and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

KJVu: 7 Come now, let us go down there and confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. "

Notes: Originally updated "Confound" with "Confuse." However, based on this comment "…​this rendering of verse 7 makes it appear as a contradiction by changing the word confound to confuse. 1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints." Wording was changed back to confound. Original comment: "Confound" highlighted in the KJV verse is Strong’s H11001 with a Strong’s definition of "to mingle, mix, confuse, confound."


Genesis 11:8

KJV:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth : and they left off to build the city.

KJVu: 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there to all over the face of the earth , and they ceased building the city.


Genesis 11:9

KJV:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel ; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth : and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

KJVu: 9 Therefore , its name is called Babel , because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth . From there, the LORD scattered them abroad over all the face of the earth.


Genesis 11:10

KJV:10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood :

KJVu: 10 These are the generations of Shem . When Shem was was 100 years old, he fathered Arphaxad two years after the flood .


Genesis 11:11

KJV:11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

KJVu: 11 After he fathered Arphaxad, Shem lived 500 years, and had other sons and daughters.


Genesis 11:12

KJV:12 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah :

Genesis 11:13

KJV:13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

KJVu: 13 After he fathered Salah, Arphaxad lived 403 years, and had other sons and daughters.


Genesis 11:14

KJV:14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber :

KJVu: 14 Salah lived 30 years, and fathered Eber.


Genesis 11:15

KJV:15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

KJVu: 15 After he fathered Eber, Salah lived 403 years, and had other sons and daughters.


Genesis 11:16

KJV:16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg :

KJVu: 16 Eber lived 34 years, and fathered Peleg .


Genesis 11:17

KJV:17 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

KJVu: 17 After he fathered Peleg, Eber lived 430 years, and had other sons and daughters.


Genesis 11:18

KJV:18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu :

KJVu: 18 Peleg lived 30 years, and fathered Reu .


Genesis 11:19

KJV:19 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

KJVu: 19 After he fathered Reu, Peleg lived 209 years, and had other sons and daughters.


Genesis 11:20

KJV:20 And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug :

KJVu: 20 Reu lived 32 years, and fathered Serug .


Genesis 11:21

KJV:21 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

KJVu: 21 After he fathered Serug, Reu lived 207 years, and had other sons and daughters.


Genesis 11:22

KJV:22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor :

KJVu: 22 Serug lived 30 years, and fathered Nahor .


Genesis 11:23

KJV:23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

KJVu: 23 After he fathered Nahor, Serug lived 200 years, and had other sons and daughters.


Genesis 11:24

KJV:24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah :

KJVu: 24 Nahor lived 29 years, and fathered Terah .


Genesis 11:25

KJV:25 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

KJVu: 25 After he fathered Terah, Nahor lived 119 years, and had other sons and daughters.


Genesis 11:26

KJV:26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

Genesis 11:27

KJV:27 Now these are the generations of Terah : Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran fathered Lot.

Genesis 11:28

KJV:28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

Genesis 11:29

KJV:29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives : the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai ; and the name of Nahor’s wife , Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah , and the father of Iscah.

KJVu: 29 Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai , and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and Iscah.


Genesis 11:31

KJV:31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife ; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan ; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

Genesis 11:32

KJV:32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years : and Terah died in Haran.
