What is an Air Filter?
An air filter is a device used to help purify the air in a home or commercial HVAC system. It works by trapping dust, dirt, and other airborne particles in its fibers so that they don't circulate through the air system and into the living space. It's important to regularly change your air filter so that your HVAC system can operate efficiently and effectively.
Types of Air Filters
There are several different types of air filters available on the market today. The most common ones are disposable fiberglass filters, pleated filters, washable electrostatic filters, and high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Fiberglass Filters
Fiberglass filters are the most basic type of filter available. They're inexpensive and easy to install but don't provide much protection against airborne particles. These should be changed every one to three months depending on usage.
Pleated Filters
Pleated filters offer more protection than fiberglass ones and can last up to six months before needing replacement. They're more expensive than fiberglass but are more efficient at trapping airborne particles.
Washable Electrostatic Filters
Washable electrostatic filters are made from a material that attracts and traps airborne particles. They can be washed and reused and are more effective than fiberglass or pleated filters. They're more expensive than other types of filters but can last up to a year before needing replacement.
