Measurement hardware

Check that you have the correct measurement equipment

Hardware you need for taking the measurements:

Hardware measurements: (see info)

  • Height of magnet + spike
  • Wire length (If the length of the short spike is different than the welding stick-out)

  • Equipments for measurements

The two spikes needed to attach the torch are short spike and long spike. Length for short spike is optimally nozzle + stick out, which means that the spike tip would roughly be in the same position as the wire. Length for long spike is optimally short spike + 100mm. The spike and the magnet base can be any, as long as the spike is not bent or twisted in any other way. Also measure the length of the magnet base and magnet spike.

Example of short spike and long spike

It is also useful to have a measuring tape or a caliper with to be able to take measurements from the torch and from the cell in general.

    Note - Calibration equipment
Make sure that the equipment you use is calibrated and accurate. Bent spikes and false measurements can lead to unsuccessful calibration!

    Hardware measurements

Measure the height of the magnet base and spike with a caliper or another measuring device. If the length of the short spike is different than the length of the stick out, the difference between the wire and the spike need to be measured.

Attach the short spike to the robot torch and create a program on the robot controller where you save two points:
    1. Point the spike towards the spike on the magnet base and save a point
    2. Remove the spike, run a wire cut routine and point the wire towards the spike on the magnet base and save a point
    3. Measure the length of the wire with a caliper and write it down

Save the wire length program with two points to an USB stick.
