BIRD WATCHING/ PHOTOGRAPHY IN INDIA

India is a bird watcher’s paradise, particularly in bird sanctuaries

where the critical habitat has been preserved. Winter is generally

the best time for birding, as many places receive migratory birds

that are attracted by the warmer weather of India’s subtropical cli-

mate. In order to maximize bird sightings, go very early in the morn-

ing and/or around sunset.

There are many birding hotspots in India, in this PDF we will be

discussing but a few which are easily accessible. Apart from the

bird sanctuaries, most of the wild life sanctuaries too are replete

with many species of birds. In total about 1200 species of birds

have been sighted in India including the migratory ones.
