Birding at Andamans
During our last visit to Andaman’s in January 2017 I had the opportunity to do
some bird photography. The forests of Andaman’s boast of some 300 odd spe-
cies of birds out of which 20 or so are endemic. The places to go looking for birds
is the forest area of shoal bay and Chiriya Tapu and even Mount Harriet. I spotted
many species at Havelock Island too. The forests are dense and the trees in them
are quite tall so you may see the birds flying and chirping and perching on high
branches so photographing them becomes a challenge. Sharing few photos tak-
en during the trip.
Came across this pair of nesting Red Breasted Parrots during a morning walk.
They were quite high up in the trees. Managed to get on top of the roof of a near
by building and took this shot. The male has red beak and the female grey.
I was told that there is a parrot island around andmans where you can see thou-
sand of parrots returning in the evening, from where ever they went. We could’nt
go there this time. God willing may be next time.
