Jesus Confronts Man with a Legion of Devils
(1) They came over to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
(2) And when he came out of the ship, immediately there met him from out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
(3) who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not even with chains,
(4) because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could any man tame him.
(5) Always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying out, and cutting himself with stones.
(6) But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
(7) and cried out with a loud voice, and said, "What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the most high God? I implore you by God, that you do not torment me."
(8) For he said to him, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit."
(9) And he asked him, "What is your name?" He answered, saying, "My name is Legion, for we are many."
(10) He begged him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
Jesus Sends the Devils into the Swine
(11) Now there was a large herd of swine feeding near the mountains.
(12) And all the devils begged him, saying, "Send us to the swine, that we may enter into them."
(13) Immediately Jesus gave them permission. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine; and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (there were about 2,000); and were drowned in the sea.
(14) Those who fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had been done.
(15) And they came to Jesus, and saw him who had been possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
(16) Those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been possessed with the devil, and also about the swine.
(17) And they began to urge him to depart out of their regions.
(18) As he entered into the ship, he who had been possessed with the devil begged him that he might be with him.
(19) But Jesus did not allow him, saying to him, "Go home to your friends, and tell them of the great things the Lord has done for you, and how he had compassion on you."
(20) Then he departed, and began to proclaim in Decapolis all the great things Jesus had done for him, and all men were amazed.
Jairus Asks Jesus to Heal His Daughter
(21) When Jesus had crossed over again by ship to the other side, many people gathered to him; and he was by the sea.
(22) Behold, there comes one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
(23) and begged him greatly, saying, "My little daughter lies at the point of death; come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she shall live."
(24) So Jesus went with him, and many people followed him, and they pressed on him from all sides.
Woman Touches Jesus' Garment and is Healed
(25) A certain woman, who had a flowing of blood for 12 years,
(26) and had suffered many things from many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better, but rather grew worse.
(27) When she heard of Jesus, she came in the crowd behind him, and touched his garment.
(28) For she said, "If only I can touch his clothes, I shall be healed."
(29) At once the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
(30) And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned around in the crowd, and said, "Who touched my clothes?"
(31) Then his disciples said to him, "You see the multitude pressed against you from all sides, and you say, 'Who touched me?' "
(32) And he looked around to see her who had done this thing.
(33) But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth.
(34) And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, and be healed of your plague."
Jesus Rasies Jairus' Daughter From the Dead
(35) While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house some people who said, "Your daughter is dead; why trouble the Master any further?"
(36) As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid, only believe."
(37) And he allowed no man to follow him, except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.
(38) Then he came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw the uproar, and those who wept and wailed greatly.
(39) And when he came in, he said to them, "Why do YOU make so much noise, and weep? the child is not dead, but sleeps."
(40) They laughed at him scornfully. But when he had put them all outside, he took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with him, and entered in where the child was lying.
(41) And he took the child by the hand, and said to her, "Talitha cumi;" which is, being interpreted, "Little girl, I say to you, arise."
(42) Immediately the child arose, and walked; for she was 12 years old. And they were astonished with great amazement.
(43) He ordered them repeatedly that no man should know of it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
