The History Channel has a show called "The Search for the Lost Giants." The show centers around Jim and Bill Vieira who are stone masons. They are on a quest to investigate the myths and legends that we have been told about the giants are actually rooted in fact. Here is a small clip from the show:
To date we have about 1,400 to 1,500 accounts, and going, from Catalina Island, CA to Martha's Vineyard. Double rows of teeth, seven foot and taller, skeletons reported. The New York Times, The Washington Post, The LA Times, and it't not just newspaper accounts. George Washington reported Giant bones in Virginia. Even Abraham Lincoln talked about the discovery of giant bones. At a certain point, I reluctantly started to believe.The first episode I watched started with this quote from Genesis 6:4 displayed across the screen, "There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."
But if all the accounts are to be believed, what is the truth about all these enormous skeletons? Are these colossal creatures evidence of a lost world that's remained hidden for thousands of years.
Every culture around the world has myths and legends about giants, Goliath, The Titans, The Cyclops, Paul Bunyan, Jack and the Beanstalk. It is in the collective imagination of humanity for some reason.
Could several millennia of folklore and mythology be rooted in an incredible reality?
They haven't addressed this topic in the show yet, but the show is bringing to light a seldom talked about teaching in the Bible. Early Jewish tradition teaches that the Sons of God mentioned in this passage are angels. In Hebrew this is the term Bene Elohim which literally translates as sons Bene created by Elohim, or God. So literally, 'Sons of God.'
In the book of Job 38:6-7 we get a clue as to who these Sons of God really are,
"6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; 7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?"
This passage talks about God laying the foundations of the World. Is says the Bene Elohim, the Sons of God, were present on the day the earth was created and they sang and worshiped God. Generally, in the Bible the only beings called the Bene Elohim, are the created Sons of God, which are angels. But there is one exception, and that is Adam. Adam is also call Bene Elohim because he was a being directly created by God. However, the natural offspring of Adam are called the sons, or daughters, of Adam, or the sons and daughters of men because God did not create them personally. Adam created them.
So in Genesis 6 we have the account of the angels who mated with the daughters of men. Together they had an offspring angelic human hybrids that were giants. These giants were not nice. they were demonically enhanced warriors and cannibals. They were unstoppable. Man was little more to them than slaves, concubines and food.
You might be saying, this sounds more like science fiction than it does the Bible, and how come they never taught me this in Sunday School? But they did teach you this in Sunday School. Remember the story of David and Goliath? Goliath had a father and four brothers that belonged to a race of giants. When they spoke you could hear the demonic spirits of fear speak through them.
Giants are also mentioned when Moses sent Caleb, Joshua and the twelve spies to check out the Holy Land of Canaan that had been promised to them by God. When they got there they saw this terrible race of giants that had been ruling the land, and they were waiting for them. They came back to Moses and they were terrified.
We see in Genesis 14, that Abraham is caught in a middle of a war that is started by giants fighting each other. These giants were never the good guys. They were always the enemy of the children of Israel.
The Bible isn't the only place these giants are mentioned. They are also mentioned in ancient history. Flavius Josephus, a famous first century Jewish scholar and historian who served the Roman Emperor Vespasian wrote a series of historical documents that chronicled history of the Jewish people. He wrote about these giants saying this:
For many angels of God accompanied with women and begat sons proved unjust and despisers of all that was good on account of the confidence they had in their own strength that these men did what resembled the acts of those of the Grecian called giants or titans. They had bodies so large and countenances so different from other men they were surprising to the sight and they were terrible to the hearing. The bones of these men are still on display to this very day.Not only did he say he could go and see these bones, but they were on display as trophies in Jerusalem. He said these giants have extra toes, thumbs and teeth. There are other sources too. Both Ecclesiasticus and the Book of Jubilees, which are Jewish history books that the Bible quotes as reference material, says in the time of Abraham giants lived in the region of Sodom and Gomorrah. Did you ever ask yourselves why the people of Sodom and Gomorrah wanted to sex with angels?
Jude who was the half-brother of Jesus wrote in his Epistle these statements in Jude 1:6-7,
"6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."
The Apostle Peter sheds more light on these angels that are locked away in chains in 2 Peter 2:4-6,
"4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;"
Now both Jude and Peter were quoting from the Book of Enoch when it comes to the judgement of these fallen angels. The Book of Enoch is a Jewish book of history written by Enoch the grandfather of Noah. While it not part of the biblical canon of inspired scripture it was found along with the Dead Sea Scrolls and was accepted as Jewish history both by the Jews and the early church. As mentioned earlier, the half-brother of Jesus and his lead Apostle Peter have no problem quoting from it and they quote it in the Bible.
What did the book of Enoch teach? It teaches that a class of 200 angels who are called The Watchers were sent to teach mankind the things of God. Instead these angels rebelled against God and taught them things of the occult instead of the things of God. They taught them the ways of war, and how to make weapons. The expanded their knowledge of the universe by sharing secrets of the heavens and the earth with them. They taught them enchantments, divination, astrology and the art of root cutting for the use of mind altering drugs. They also crossbred animals to make them become more violent.
This book also teaches that the angels had real spiritual bodies. They could eat food and appear as human. We see this in the Bible. The angel ate food and appeared as human and were mistaken for men. Jude, Peter and Enoch say these watcher angels fell from their first estate and they took on corrupted flesh. When they did this they were able to have sex with the daughters of men. The Bible says they filled the earth with hybrid giants and they corrupted the DNA of mankind.
As a consequence of the evil perpetrated by the 200 Watcher angels, they were locked away in the chains of hell waiting on the final judgement on the final day of the Lord. The giants that were their children wiped out in the flood of Noah. Did you ever wonder why God had to flood the earth? Or why he order the complete destruction of the people who lived in the promised land of Canaan? Or why he destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah?
Was God a genocidal maniac, or did he have to protect the world? We find the answer to this question back in the book of Genesis. After Satan caused man to fall into sin in the garden of Eden, God enacted a plan to save mankind. In Genesis 3:15 we read this, "And I will put enmity [warfare] between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." Here we see God will use the seed, or the offspring of the woman, to defeat and destroy the devil. That would happen when Jesus would be physically born through the line of Eve. Now when Satan heard that, he realized he had a problem. God had just decreed his defeat, and unlike a lot of Christians who doubt the power and authority of God's Word - Satan most definitely does not.
So he asked himself, how do I stop this from happening? You just can't go and take on God head to head. He tried that and utterly failed. Maybe he could try to kill Eve, but God said it was Eve's destiny to start the bloodline of the Messiah, so he could not touch her. The only thing he could try to do was corrupt the DNA of mankind, so the Messiah could not be born. He could also try to make the world a dangerous and violent place. If he could not kill Eve maybe he could kill off some of the children of Adam and Eve like he did with Cain and Able, and he could use the seed of his fallen ones to do it.
We read in Genesis 6:11-12 the outcome of Satan's plan,
"11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth."
But all was not hopeless in Genesis 6:8-9 we are told, "8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God."
In the Hebrew language the term "perfect in his generations" meant the bloodline of a certain family were perfect and uncorrupted. Or put another way, Noah and his family's DNA was not corrupted. It was 100% human. So now you see why the flood had to happen. The Ark did more than just save Noah and his family, it preserved the bloodline the Messiah would be born through. It wouldn't be Satan's last attempt to stop the bloodline and God's plan.
It was no coincidence that when God said Abraham's offspring would become the Jewish people and the Messiah would come through the Jewish bloodline that all these giants started showing up around him and his nephew Lot. They had their base in Sodom and Gomorrah. Even though there was perversion, homosexuality and violence in that city, we see the people of the city recognized the two angels with Lot and wanted to have sex with them. But God wiped them all out by destroying Sodom and Gomorrah.
It was also no coincidence that when the land of Canaan or Israel was promised to the Jewish people as their homeland and it would eventually become the place where the Messiah would be born that a bunch of giants all of a sudden show up in the land and are waiting for the children of Israel - waiting and ready to wipe the children of Israel out. In reality, it was God that wiped them out, and he cleanses the land through the hands of Caleb and Joshua.
It is also no coincidence that the moment God sets up Kings instead of prophets to rule Israel that Satan learns that the Messiah will come from the bloodline of one of these kings. Then all of a sudden a bunch of giants like Goliath show up. But a shepherd boy who one day would become that king destroyed them all.
What does this have to do with end times prophecy? In Mathew 24 Jesus said the conditions that existed in the days of Noah and Lot would once again exist in the days when Jesus returns and finally destroys Satan and his seed.The prophecy from the Garden of Eden is not yet complete. Just like in the days of Noah and lot there will violence and occultism and sexual perversion, What about the other page is Satan's playbook? Has he truly given up on the corruption of our DNA?
