The Model

How a Charter Works

A charter yacht is offered at a weekly rate. That rate covers the yacht, the professional crew and private chef. A defined, predictable set of costs is then charged to your account.

Included in the weekly rate
  • The yacht and its amenities
  • Professional captain and crew
  • Private chef
Charged to your account
  • Taxes / VAT, by itinerary
  • Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA)
  • Crew gratuity, at your discretion
  • Carbon offset contribution (optional)
  • Cancellation insurance (optional)

The Cost Framework

Beyond the Weekly Rate

A defined set of costs sits alongside the base rate. Each is transparent and, where possible, negotiable.

Taxes / VAT

Applied by itinerary. Zero in the Caribbean and Newport, Rhode Island.

Delivery / Re-delivery

A possible repositioning fee, often reduced or removed in negotiation.

Provisioning (APA)

Around 30–35% of the rate for on-board costs. Unused funds are returned.

Crew Gratuity

Entirely at your discretion, typically 10–15% of the charter fee.

Carbon Offset

A small contribution to counterbalance the voyage, arranged for you.

Insurance

Optional cancellation and curtailment cover, which we recommend.

The Advance Provisioning Allowance

Provisioning, tailored to the nth degree

Typically 30 to 35% of the charter rate is collected before you board, held to cover your on-board costs for the week.

Anything not spent is returned to you in full.

Additional funds can be topped up at any point during the charter.

Taxes by Destination

Charters are subject to local tax based on where the cruise begins. The Caribbean and Newport, Rhode Island are tax-free.

Yacht Carbon Offset

Chartering Responsibly

A small contribution, drawn seamlessly from your APA, counterbalances the carbon impact of your voyage. A certificate is issued at the end of the charter.

A cause I have championed for over fifteen years, and one recognised with the Condé Nast Traveller Innovation & Design Award for Sustainable Design.

≈ €200
to offset a 40m yacht for a one-week charter
