E.A. went east by himself. He left Padilla on September 13, 1916. During this trip he went to the Binghamton New York Fair. It was during this trip that he visited his cousin Christy Mathewson. He stopped at Aurora Illinois to visit Eva Reed.

Sat Jan 01: This has been a very quiet uneventful day. Ida down stairs a while. Mr & Mrs William, Mr Cloyd, & Dr. Frost called. The latter to give Ida a medical treatment. Frank & Grant not back from Seattle. I wonder what all this year will bring forth besides election.
Sun Jan 02: Ida poorly as usual. Temp 20° Clear & pleasant. Went to S.S. & church in the A.M. Dr. Burdon here this eve. Ida went over to Wright's to stay to night and while I am gone to Mt. Vernon. Coldest for two years.
Mon Jan 03: Temp 30 Snow & north wind most of the day. Went to Mount Vernon to Coms Meeting.
Tue Jan 04: Temp 20° In Mt. Vernon. Home on the noon Train. Clear & cold all day. Ida came home feeling no better. Dr. Frost here this eve. 22° at 9 P.M.
Wed Jan 05: Temp 26° Snow showers to day. Down town & settled bill & home the rest of the time working.

Mon Jan 10: Temp 20 at 7 A.M. & 17 at 9 P.M. Fierce north wind all day. Ida's cold pretty bad. Mercury at 17 in some places. Grew cold very fast last night. Got up at 3 this A.M. to let the water out of the car.

Wed Jan 12: Temp 26°& four inches more snow. Ida worse. Mr. Robinson's body & folks came to day from California.
Thu Jan 13: Temp 26° at A.M. & 23° at 9 P.M. Ida had a bad night. Self went to Mr. Robinson's funeral as one of the honorary Pall bearers. Funeral at 7:30 P.M. Cold N.E. wind. Reading "Coniston". Mr. McPhail present this eve.
Fri Jan 14: Temp 20° Clear & cold with steady north wind. Frank White & Margurite here. Went down town & got the water pipe fixed. M. staid all night.

Tue Feb 01: Temp 30. Snowed 6 inches last night and up till noon to day & still at it. 10 P.M. still snowing hard.
Wed Feb 02: Temp 28°. Snowing and drifting. This beats the 1880 snow. It is from two feet to 30 inches deep. No train to day. Everything is paralyzed. It snowed 48 hours with out stopping once.
Thu Feb 03: Temp 28°. It quit snowing at 4 P.M. yesterday. Pleasant to day. People breaking and shoveling roads and walks. Reading "Rim of the Desert". No papers yet!
Fri Feb 04: Temp 30°. First train since Tuesday night and got our papers. Down town paying bills, &c. Snow melting some.
Sat Feb 05: Temp 34. Pleasant most of the day, but snowing again in the eve. Snow melted considerable to day. Cleaning & choring.

6Wed Oct 18: Went to Geo Baileys and in the P.M. with him for a long auto ride. Called on the Greens, Bill Shafer and Mr Farnum.
6Fri Oct 27: 67 today. Went with Reeds to Aurora & started for Chicago. In Chicago till 10-30 - When I started for Seattle via Olympian. C.M. & S.P.R.R.

Sat Oct 14:[margin: Foggy. Warmer.] Fog almost a rain but warmer. We returned from Lynden. Frank started working for Lowman.
Sun Oct 15:[margin: Foggy quite warm.] Frank working on the President.
Mon Oct 16:[margin: Foggy.] Quite foggy all day. Little wind in P.M. Ben Palmer here in the evening.
Tue Oct 17:[margin: Clear and pleasant.] Pleasant day. Some breeze. W.C.T.C. convention here. Mrs Wiggin and Mrs Church here.
Wed Oct 18:[margin: Clear and pleasant.] Went to hear Hi Gill but he failed to appear. Were pleasantly entertained by the W.C.T.U. ladies.
Thu Oct 19:[margin: Pleasant in morning and evening.] Quite cool A slight shower about noon. Cleared up in the evening. Frank started to B.C. Mrs Wiggin went home. Mrs Dunlap elected State President.
Fri Oct 20:[margin: Pleasant.] Another nice day, warmer. Went to the Diamond Medal contest. Mrs Church went home this morning. The evening card from Papa.

Sun Oct 22:[margin: A perfect day.] Slight frost last night. Went to hear Mr Evers. He is very good.

Fri Oct 27:[margin: Pleasant.] Frank got home this morning. 3000 fish. Quite pleasant all day.
Sat Oct 28:[margin: Windy.] Strongest wind for a long time in the after noon. Edith Whitney married to day.
Sun Oct 29:[margin: Wind and rain.] Blew very hard all. Began raining toward morning. Cleared up about almost seven, began again about twelve.

Fri Nov 17: Frost 30°. In town all day. Went out to Hudson's and settled with Bushey. Choring around in the P.M.
Sat Nov 18: Rain some last night & this A.M. Around home in the A.M. & went to the farm & to see Schmidt in the P.M. Got some potatos from F. White. A sack for myself and one for Frank. Lelia Wilson here.

Sun Nov 26: Clowdy - no rain. Went to Church & S.S. in the A.M. & Mrs Butters preaches. Thanksgiving sermon. In the P.M. went to see Mrs Burdon and took Mr & Mrs Squire along.
Mon Nov 27: Stormy A.M. Went to the Chuck Hole club. At home and downtown. High tide this A.M. 4 in from the tide stake.
Tue Nov 28: No rain. Knight & crew working on the road. Self & Bessner went to Mt Vernon to the Rob Co. meeting. Franks folks went to Bellingham this A.M. pr Kulshan.
Wed Nov 29: Strong S.E. wind & cold. In town all day.
Thu Nov 30: Fine Pleasant Thanksgiving Day. Went to Union service at the Presby Church, Frank also Rev Hunter of the Christian Church made the address and it was a very able one. Self & wife took dinner with the Wrights and were thankful.
