Mon Dec 29: Pleasant. Came home on Str Whatcom.
Tue Dec 30: At home and downtown. Wrote to Ida & sent papers.
Wed Dec 31: Rainy day. At home all day. Reading most of the time. Finished "The Broken Note". It is very good also finished the Canal book at 11 P.M. & retired. Thus endeth 1913. Very high tide this A.M. & John Ball had a break at the head of Indian Slough.

Fri Jan 02: At home and downtown. Weather stormy, both wind and rain. "Read The Sherods". Frank and Nettie talking house.
Sat Jan 03: Stormy. Reading in the A.M. Went to the new theatre to see Pilgrims Progress. Grant over & brot some ducks.
Sun Jan 04: Warm Temp 54. Stormy day. Went to the B. Sunday school and Christian church and to dinner with Smith's folks.
Mon Jan 05: Ther at 54. Rain about all day. Reading and put in an axe handle.
Tue Jan 06: Warm Rain in the P.M. Began working on Franks lots with him & Shafer.
Wed Jan 07: Skagit river high. Up to Bradley's in the eve. Showery all day. Working on the lots. In the the P.M. I went out to Lovelace's to get lumber bill & took it to the O.O. Mill.
Thu Jan 08: Shower. Still clearing lots. Was out to 23d to see Erickson but he was away.
Fri Jan 09: Easton's at Nettie's this eve. No rain. Burning & blowing stumps on the lots. Have them in pretty good shape to night. Wrote to Ida.
Sat Jan 10: Windy but no rain. Working on lots and made good time. Down town in the eve. A letter from Geo and one from Ida.
Sun Jan 11:[margin: Beautiful day.] Wrote to Ida. Went to the B. church. Frank went with me. Rev. Powlesland preached his first sermon. Went to church again in the eve.

Mon Jan 12:[margin: Tide high 3 1/2 inches from the stake.] Began on Franks house. Worked till 4.30 then went to the Ranch. Grant stepped on a nail this A.M. and ran it through his foot.
Tue Jan 13:[margin: Rainy. Tide 5 in less to day] Came home this A.M. Frank & the other fellow worked some putting up studding. Lovelace did not come. Doing nothing in the P.M.
Wed Jan 14: Rainy most all day. did nothing on the house, but got the water tap put in. down town & registered.
Thu Jan 15: Cold & windy but not much rain. Working on the house. Self went to Burlington & worked on house in P.M. Went to Burlington on Water district business.
Fri Jan 16: Another tide as big as any this winter. Callahan, Ball and the Whitney Island flooded. Working on the house. Part of the rafters are up.
Sat Jan 17: Rainy A.M. Showery most of all day. Frank & self working on the house most of the day. Grading some.
Sun Jan 18: Highest tide of the season to day. Went to church and heard Jennings preach his crazy sermons. Was out to Smiths in the P.M. Windy all day & eve. S. wind. A wedding in church to day.
Mon Jan 19: Fine day for work until 8.30 when it stormed some but all kept at work and made a good showing. Began shingling and they began he chimney & plumbing also.
Tue Jan 20: Working on house. Self & Frank sheeting & shingling. The others making window frames. Cold & windy.
Wed Jan 21: Damp & misty and rain after 3 P.M. Sheeting & shingling. Light now & the plumbers at work also lathing. Wrote to Ida.
Thu Jan 22: Working on house all day shingling & sheeting. No rain. Went to meeting in the eve. Frank also.
Fri Jan 23:[margin: A little snow for the first.] Went to the ranch, found it flooded from seepage water from the old line dike. Ball & Callahan doing nothing yet towards their brake. Ida came this eve.
Sat Jan 24: Working on the house some. Snow 3 1/2 inches this P.M.
Sun Jan 25: Stormy, wind & rain. Snow gone. Went to B. church morning & eve.
Mon Jan 26: Highest tide this A.M. since fifty years ago or more. Everything flooded on Padilla Bay, but Woodburn had no breaks. Our dike broke at Bay View. Callahan break still open. Putting windows in the house.
Tue Jan 27: Plastered two rooms. Cold ground frozen this A.M. Frank and self grading around the house. Ada Wilson Lindbery died to day.
Wed Jan 28: Grading some & putting on ???e. The finished plastering to day. Frank & Nettie went to Wilsons to stay till after the funeral. Cold S.E. wind and snow squalls.
Thu Jan 29: Not doing much but chores. Heavy wind. The finished the chimney. Went to Prayer meeting this eve.

Sun Feb 01: Clear & cold. Went to Bellingham to the Ada Lindbery funeral. Very sad funeral. Came home on the night boat and fixed up Franks house so as not to freeze the plaster.
Mon Feb 02: Temp 30. Clear & cold. Frank & Nettie came home. Working around the house in the P.M.
Tue Feb 03:[margin: Grant sold the hay at $10 per ton.] Temp 30 & snowing all day from the S.E. Moved the stove into the house. This is much like a blizzard.
Wed Feb 04: Working around the house some, putting in windows and cleaning out.
Thu Feb 05: Cold temp 22°. Wrote to Geo. Self, Frank & Brown laying floor in the house. Clear & cold. Temp 30 at 6 P.M.
Fri Feb 06: Temp 32. Laying floor & finished. Went to the Powlesland ordination meeting in the eve. Frank also.
Sat Feb 07: Temp 33°. Working on the house dressing casing &c. The men finished the tiling. Heard from Grant that he had sold the hal. Snow on the ground yet.

Mon Feb 16: Pleasant P.M. Foggy A.M. Came to A. with Grant in his car. The had the dam in when we left. Worked on the house in the P.M. Grant left his car for overhauling. Dr. Appleby very sick.
Tue Feb 17: Pleasant. Dr Appleby died last night. Working on house all day.

Thu Mar 12: Staid at the farm ast night & was out with Fred K. this A.M. to meet a boat. The car leaked and I came home on the train and went after the car with Ronneberger in the P.M. Went to church in the eve.
Fri Mar 13: Went to the Ranch to help load hay, but the boat ran away. Came home & fixed the gasoline tank and put up the phones to Wrights house. Windy. Ida & Nettie went down town in the car.
Sat Mar 14: Rain most of last night. Working at the phone and shading up garden. Ida feeling bad as usual. Took the car down to get the carburetor fixed.
Sun Mar 15: No rain to speak of. Went to B church morn & eve and to a baby funeral at the church in the P.M. Mr Clos preached the last of the series of meetings this eve. Eight requested admission to the church.
Mon Mar 16: Rainy A.M. Did chores, cleaned up the brass on the car, washed some and work on Franks wood house in the P.M. Ida no better.
Tue Mar 17: Down town & took the car to have a "bosch" put on. Worked on Franks wood house in the P.M.
Wed Mar 18: Made the pergola and planted sweet peas & lettuce.

Sat Aug 01: Nice day. Went to Pioneer meeting at Sedro Woolley. Nice crowd and a good time. Made about 54 miles today. Took Chas. W. Beale and Mrs Whitney. Mr Beale is the oldest resident Pioneer of the Skagit Co and is 83 years old. Got home at 6:30 without any trouble.
Sun Aug 02: Went to S.S. & church morning & eve. Went to Whitney's to dinner with Nettie & children also.
Mon Aug 03: Helping wash &c in the A.M. Went to LaC & the ranch in the P.M. Paid for the water pipe 2700 ft at 6 3/4¢ per foot. Grant baling at Conners, yet his hay is averaging five tons per acre.

Thu Oct 01: Rainy day. Templar began to thresh. A.G. Tillinghast died this P.M. of heart disease. Vinza was stricken while walking on his way to the post office in front of his house. He was just past 70. I took Mrs Whitney over in the eve or P.M. Came home at 7 P.M. Roads flooded.
Fri Oct 02: Pleasant part of the day. Went to a city caucus in the eve.
Sat Oct 03: Pleasant. At home. Van Buren got the bal of the hay yesterday. Went down & got Mrs Pace & she went to Tillinghasts with Halstead.
