Thu Jan 02: A scow came for the hay and the boys & self began loading in the P.M. worked till 10 P.M. Fred & crew put in the break at Byron's W.
Fri Jan 03:[margin: Strong N. wind.] Began on the break at the hay barn at 4 P.M. had about 28 men. Worked till 2 P.M. It took 12 rods of new dike. Had a dike meeting at Kalso's this P.M. and all agreed to go ahead & fix up the breaks if possible. Fred K. to take charge. Finished loading the hay and 36 tons of straw. Callahan shut off his breaks & finished them to day.
Sat Jan 04:[margin: Frost.] All getting ready to shut off the big buck at the Allen Slough dam. Self grinding axes, filing saws, & working on dike in the P.M. Came hoe in the eve. Ida about sick with bad cold. Dr. Smith has been sick with bowell trouble for over two weeks and not much better.
Sun Jan 05: Temp 26°. Freezing all day. Went to church and wrote to Geo.
Mon Jan 06:[margin: Warmer at night.]Snowing all day. Went to Sedro with Wells & Conner to visit the Northern Insane Hospital. Home at 9 P.M.
Tue Jan 07: Strong S.E. wind. At home & down town. John Kell & John Nelson here to see about dyke bill. Went to the ranch in the eve. Found them getting on well with the dike.
Wed Jan 08: At the farm this A.M. but came home on the 9.30 train. They have all the breaks shut except the ones down near Bay View. Amos Ball & Bob Woodburn doing nothing toward shutting this off.
Thu Jan 09: Snow last night and to day. finished packing and started for Seattle at 5.35 on the way to Olympia.
Fri Jan 10: In Seattle till ten P.M. then went to Tacoma with Representative to tend the Republican State dinner at the Tacoma Hotel. It was a swell affair.
Sat Jan 11: Went to Olympia via train arrived at 11 A.M. Bot a stove and went to Birchlers to stay. Snowing & melting. Town full of Reps. and Senators, &c.
Sun Jan 12: At Mitchell hotel most of the day. Dark & clowdy and rain in the P.M.
Mon Jan 13: The House was organized to day and H.D. Taylor elected speaker. Rainy.
Tue Jan 14: Frosty. Gov Lister arrived. Two House sessions to day.
Wed Jan 15: The new Gov inaugurated to day. Ida & the Palmers came and we all went to the Inauguration Ball. Damp cold and snowy.

Staid at the Arlington and went to the Orpheum with Senator Hammer. Saw a fine entertainment and the first talking and singing moving pictures.
Sat Mar 15: In Seattle. Took dinner with the Palmers.
Sun Mar 16: Stormy. Went to the first Presbyterian church twice, out to McGinnis' to dinner and heard Booker T. Washington in the P.M. also Dan Earle at the Y.M.C.A. at supper. Took the boat for home at 10 P.M.
Mon Mar 17: Heard McKenna was very sick. Arrived in A 5 A.M. Lots of rain yesterday and same to day. Road muddy. Nettie's baby no well. Frank in San Francisco and has been for some time.
Tue Mar 18: Windy but no rain. Fixing up the Ford and helped wash.
Wed Mar 19: Gov Mead died. Temp 27°. Fierce with wind all day and freezing every minute. Choring & reading.
Thu Mar 20: Tem 26. Pleasant but cold. Ida & self went over to the Ranch in the Ford. Roads dry but rough. Grant through plowing.

Mon Apr 21:[margin: Aunt Mary came this P.M.] Dan'l Sullivan buried to day. Rocks has an auto accident Sun A.M. in Mt Vernon. Heard a girl and a young fellow shot himself but not dead yet.
Tue Apr 22: Clowdy & cool. Mrs Wallace here & they visited Mrs Woodburn. Self went to Cranberry hill. Downtown in the eve to get Ida's teeth fitted.

Thu Apr 24: Rainy last night and this A.M. and misty all day. Made a seat for the porch. Mr & Mrs Fed S. Wright here and took dinner with Nettie. Then went to Bellingham on the boat. In the eve went down to Walkers to get Ida's teeth fitted.

Mon Apr 28: Frost. Choring around home. Went to meet the Darcys at the 10.20 boat and took them home. Clear & cold.

Wed May 21: Pleasant. Grain not looking very well. It is thin in spots. Can taste the salt in the low places. Grass looking fairly well but it all needs more rain. Ida in bed all day. Self painted the eave troughs and some on the roof. Good weather for fresh land. Amos Ball's dike not fixed yet.
Thu May 22: Pleasant. Choring & painting some on the roof. Dr. Cook here to see Ida.
Fri May 23: Mowed the lawn. Piled wood & did house work. Ida still in bed. The Wrights came.
Sat May 24: Beautiful day. Took the Smiths to Mt Vernon & took dinner with Rev. Jennings' people. Ida still poorly.
Sun May 25: Pleasant. Went to the memorial services at the Christian church. In the P.M. John's & Grant's and Frank Leamer's folks were here.
Mon May 26: Wright's folks started for Seattle. Misty & rainy most of the day. This rain will help out the oats on salt land. A letter from Dora Phillips.

Mon Jun 02: Fine weather. Mowed the lawn and went to Harris Smith's funeral. It was a sorry funeral. Ida some better to day. Frank went to Linden to Grandpa Wright's funeral. Watered the law some. It is drying fast.
Tue Jun 03: Pleasant day. Painting on the roof all day.
Wed Jun 04: Ida poorly. Strong south wind. Painting and finished the roof. Caught a bad cold. Went to the class play with Nettie & the Whitney's and took them home after it was over.
Thu Jun 05: Not doing much. Cold bad. Went to the Graduation Exercises in the eve. Drying weather too dry for salt water oats.
Fri Jun 06: Pleasant. Went to the farm and helped Grant on the sewer box & ditch.

Fri Jun 27: Left B. at 9 A.M. Called on Mr. Dalin near Burlington, then to Edison for dinner, then to John Wilson's then to Grants, then to Frank White's for supper and home at 9 P.M. Fine trip.
Sat Jun 28: Mr & Mrs McGinnis went home to day via "Kulshan" Washed the car, mowed the lawn. Pleasant day.
Sun Jun 29: Went to the M.E. church this A.M. Margurite White came from Seattle this A.M. Went with the Wrights to B.V. & the Ranch this P.M. called on Howes. Shower in the eve. Oats & hay look fairly well for a flood year. Oats weedy.

Tue Jul 01:[margin: Rainy.] Working around home in the A.M. and went to the Ranch in the P.M. Margurite White went along and the boat came for the oats. Finished loading at 9 P.M.
Wed Jul 02:[margin: Pleasant.] Helping Grant make beds for men and went to town in the P.M. to get oat money. Walked over the grain fields and voted it less than a half of last years crop. I guess the hay at 2 3/4 tons per acre for 50 acres or 125 to 140 tons.
Thu Jul 03: Clowdy but no rain to speak of. Choring around the ranch in the A.M. Went to Wilsons and to Samish Island for Grant a girl in the P.M. Pearl and children came home with me.
Fri Jul 04: Lots of drunks. Rainy A.M. Went to the Parade and to speaking in the Park. John & Frank Whites here to dinner. Went to the Ball game in the P.M.
Sat Jul 05:[margin: Pleasant.]Down town & to the Ball game. All went out to the long bridge for a picnic supper. Frank & I went to Dewey. Frank Ewing had a break down and I took them home, got back at 10.30.
Sun Jul 06:[margin: Frank went to help Fowler on the boat.] Pleasant strong wind at night. Went to hear Hudson. Pearl went with me. Mr Darcy here to dinner. Baileys called in the P.M. In the eve took Pearl & Hilda & Kids home. Had a tire blow out and had to get Ronneberger to bring out a new one. Ida staid with Hilda.
Mon Jul 07: Pleasant. Mowed the lawn, got the tire fixed and went downtown. Ida came home this eve.
Tue Jul 08: Grant came from Tacoma this A.M. Went & called on Van Heuber's & Woodburn's this eve. Looks like rain again.
Wed Jul 09: Rained some last night and nearly all day to day. Poor outlook for hay.

Fri Jul 11: Pleasant. painting about all day. Rain this A.M. & tonight.
Sat Jul 12: Finished painting. Mowed the lawn, cleaned the car and in the P.M. went for a drive with Mrs Smith & Mrs Nelson. Drove to Dodge Valley, Mt Vernon, Burlington, Edison, Wilson's, Bayview, the Ranch & home at 8 P.M. Had a picnic supper at the foot of the hill where the road comes on the Island. Bad hay weather. John & Grant mowed some to day.
Sun Jul 13: Pleasant to day. Went to Sunday school out to the Con. Church. Called on Mrs Van Heuber in the P.M.
Mon Jul 14: Went to the Farm to help in the hay. Tedding & raking. Weather good. Finished mowing the Whitney field.

Fri Jul 18: Went Seattle via Kulshan to see the "Potlatch" very warm in Seattle.
Sat Jul 19: In Seattle all day. Saw lots of people & various other things. Warm & dry.
Sun Jul 20: Warm tem 76. Came from Seattle this A.M. Went to the Presbyterian church. Call on the Van Huebeners this eve.
Mon Jul 21: Temp 76. choring & washing in the A.M. went to the farm in the P.M. Warm & fine hay weather.
Tue Jul 22: Mowed the lawn & went down town twice. Temp 76°. Ground very dry & roads dusty.
Wed Jul 23: Not quite so warm. Nettie started for Tacoma. Ida keeping the baby, but not well.
Thu Jul 24: Pleasant. Dry & dusty roads. Went with the crowd to Whidby Island and visited the Fort Casey. Mrs Whitney & Mrs Alexander went with me. Ida staying with baby Wright. Frank home last night. [margin: Saw lots of fine farms, good roads, good crops. Twenty-two cars mad the trip and crossed the pass on scows. Nine cars at a trip. Started at 8.30 and got back before six. Made 80 miles. Saw Dr. C. at home.]
Fri Jul 25: Warm & dry & dusty. Around home and down town. Wrote to Geo. in the eve. Nettie came from Tacoma. Viola Wright very low.
Sat Jul 26:[margin: Baled 45 tons.] Started for the Ranch at 6 A.M. Grant baling hay. Hay in fine order. The Whitney field made 2 1/2 tons per acre or 50 tons on 19 acres. Self running the engine. Grant feeding.
Sun Jul 27:[margin: Hay fine.] Baling hay across the road. 40 tons. Warm & dry. Self with the engine.
Mon Jul 28: Baling three hours & quit for rain. Rain light. Self went to LaC for wire. Came home in the eve. Allen bot Olympia Marsh hay at $10 per ton F.O.B. Burlington.
Tue Jul 29:[margin: Frank home last night.] Pleasant. Down to see Bessner's new house form and down town. In the P.M. out to Mrs Bowman's and Darcy's. Grant must have finished baling hay to day.
Wed Jul 30:[margin: Good hay ] Pleasant. At home and down town & down to the Apex Cannery. they are getting lots of sockeyes. 39000 yesterday.

Fri Aug 08: Went to Ferndale to Pioneer Picknick & home at night. Armund Wright came with me & staid all night.

Sun Aug 10: Armund Wright went home to day. Mr Darcy, The Bailey's & Carter's here in the P.M. Warm & dry. Went to Chris. Church in eve.
Mon Aug 11: Pleasant. Went with the Governors(Lister) party on Lowman's boat to see the fish traps also went on an auto trip around Mt Erie and took the to the boat at 10.15. C. Gaches folks & Lawyer Smith's folks went also.
Tue Aug 12: Had a nice rain most of the night last night. Cleaned up the car and went down town.
Wed Aug 13:[margin: Pleasant.] Washing in the A.M. In the P.M. went down town and to Darcy's & VanHuebner's. Mrs VanHuebner very poorly and has since last Dec. Geo Alverson died Mon & buried to day. Another victim of booze. Turn the charity fund over to the city for the Burrows Bay park fund.
Thu Aug 14: At home in the A.M. working on lawn. In P.M. took some folks out to Mrs Chitnerds(?) and went to meeting in the eve.
Fri Aug 15: Pleasant. Went with Nettie & Donald to the Circus at Bellingham. "Ringlings"
Sat Aug 16: At home and down town. Nothing unusual transpired. Was down to the Apex. Lots of fish yet.
Sun Aug 17: Heavy rain all last night. Went to M.E. Church in the A.M. & to Ch Church in the eve.
Mon Aug 18: Helping Ida wash in the A.M. & went to the Ranch in the P.M. Grant cutting oats. Has twenty five acres cut. Very poor & weedy.
Tue Aug 19:[margin: Fine ] Choring, reading, downtown with the folks to get baby's picture taken. Fixed the rear wheel on the car with new washers.
Wed Aug 20:[margin: weather for harvest.] Went down to the Apen & to get some irons for the tank hoops. Out to Frank White's this eve.

Mon Sep 01:[margin: Grant was to start at Byron's to day threshing.] Labor Day. Washed & went downtown and out to Darcy's. Mrs Frank D & Mr C. Darcy here to tea and Mr D. staid all night. Cool & clowdy.
Tue Sep 02: Clowdy & sprinkling rain. Mr Darcy started for California. Went down & boxed his trunk in the P.M. Strong S.E. wind.
Wed Sep 03: Rain a little last night and showery to day also a strong S.E. wind all day. Poor threshing weather.
Thu Sep 04: Rain last night & some to day. Two Mrs Darcy's here this eve.
Fri Sep 05: Rain again last night. Clowdy most of the day. Ida sick all last night & today. Self choring & began a piano record tack. Ida still in bed.

Thu Sep 11: Grant threshing at Crumrine's. Beautiful day. At home in the forenoon. Mowed the lawn. In the P.M. went with Mr Edens, Mr Acton & Mr Kellogg to LaC & to see them thresh on Whitney Island.
Fri Sep 12: Fine day. Helping about home and in the P.M. Went out to Ivan Alexander's and Mrs Whitney's. She came home with us and I went with them to the teacher's reception. Ida not well enough to go.
Sat Sep 13: Helping in the house and went down town. Fine threshing weather. They are digging sewer here now. I am keeping car at Robinson's Garage.
Sun Sep 14: Pleasant. Went to Baptist S.S. & Ch church in the A.M. Was out to Whitney's in the P.M. & went to Psby Ch. in the eve.
Mon Sep 15: Pleasant. Went to the Ranch and to LaC. to get the machine fixed. Came home in the eve. Ida went also.
Tue Sep 16: The boy wound up threshing. Smallest job for the M. Fine day. Took off the 2d read tire at 5090 miles. Put on the new 2d Fisk. In P.M. Ida went to the "Thornburg Junction" I was down town & went to the Fidalgo Mill.
Wed Sep 17: Around home and down town & was to the farm. A shower at night. Order 3500 ft of lumber of Johnson's mill for ditch box.
Thu Sep 18: At home till 5 P.M. then went to the farm. Ida also. Fixed up the car for a Vancouver trip & mowed the lawn.
Fri Sep 19: Ida went home sick. Self went with Grants folks to Vancouver in my car. Fine trip.
Sat Sep 20: In Vancouver all day & went to a double ball game.
Sun Sep 21: Rain in the A.M. Left V for home at 10.50. Took dinner in Lynden. Got home at 7.30 at the farm at 5 P.M. Fine trip.
Mon Sep 22: Choring about home. Water very low and part of the time, none. Men at the sewer. Keeping the car at Robinsons. Fine weather.
Tue Sep 23:[margin: No water.] Went to the farm and help Fred on the dike 3/4. Staid at Grants.
Wed Sep 24: Working at the dike some and at the Hay Barn Gangway. Grant on the dike in the P.M.

Sat Jan 03: Stormy. Reading in the A.M. Went to the new theatre to see Pilgrims Progress. Grant over & brot some ducks.
Sun Jan 04: Warm Temp 54. Stormy day. Went to the B. Sunday school and Christian church and to dinner with Smith's folks.
Mon Jan 05: Ther at 54. Rain about all day. Reading and put in an axe handle.
Tue Jan 06: Warm Rain in the P.M. Began working on Franks lots with him & Shafer.
Wed Jan 07: Skagit river high. Up to Bradley's in the eve. Showery all day. Working on the lots. In the the P.M. I went out to Lovelace's to get lumber bill & took it to the O.O. Mill.
Thu Jan 08: Shower. Still clearing lots. Was out to 23d to see Erickson but he was away.
Fri Jan 09: Easton's at Nettie's this eve. No rain. Burning & blowing stumps on the lots. Have them in pretty good shape to night. Wrote to Ida.
Sat Jan 10: Windy but no rain. Working on lots and made good time. Down town in the eve. A letter from Geo and one from Ida.
Sun Jan 11: [margin: Beautiful day.] Wrote to Ida. Went to the B. church. Frank went with me. Rev. Powlesland preached his first sermon. Went to church again in the eve.
