Tue Dec 19: Raining some. Grant went to town. Self hauled a load of lumber for ditch. Pretty high tide for this year, but nearly a foot short of some years.
Wed Dec 20: Grant went to Bellingham. Self doing chores.
Thu Dec 21: Showery. Grant in Bellingham. Self hauling lumber for the ditch two loads. 2350 ft all told.
Fri Dec 22: Frost 30°. Grant came home last night. Self did chores and helped Johnson on the ditch in the P.M.
Sat Dec 23: Frost 30° Cool. Self went to LaC. Grant helping on the ditch and they finished it. Frank and Nettie came down. Staid to night.
Sun Dec 24: Staid at home. John & Pearl & son came to day. Strong south wind all day. Tides not very high for the season.

Thu Dec 28: Began feeding the pigs chop feed last night. Showery day. Put up the register for the tank. Reading "Hearts Courageous". Ground full of water now.
Fri Dec 29: More rain today. Not doing much, chores. Mr Evans here trying to sell a piano.
Sat Dec 30: Cold north west wind. Evans brot a Cecilian Piano for us to try.

Wed Jan 10: Some snow squalls. Frost 28°. Grant went & took the butcher's things home. Evans here and I settled for the piano. Hope it will turn out all right. Wrote a letter to Geo. Began smoking head cheese & sausage.
Thu Jan 11: Snowing some this A.M. Cold day east wind. Not doing much but chores. Mr. Howe here to talk pianola.
Fri Jan 12: Mr Berg here to polish up the piano. Strong south wind but warmer.
Sat Jan 13: Clowdy with strong south wind. Self & Grant hauled up a load of old rails for road & cut some of it up. Everett Wallace here. Tides moderate for the time of year. The highest one this winter not with in ten inches of last winter.
Sun Jan 14: Cool but pleasant went to La C to church and Ida came home with me.
Mon Jan 15: Rain in Seattle, but not here. Ida & self went to Seattle and staid all night at McGinnis's. Mr McM in the hospital sick. Grant at home doing chores.
Tue Jan 16: In Seattle all day. Went to see Mr McM & went to Cline's Piano House for music also visited Mr Howe. Rain most of the day. [margin: Highest tide of the winter.]
Wed Jan 17: In Seattle till 4 P.M. then came home & arrived at 8 P.M. Lots of rain in Seattle. Visited Don Palmer in the P.M.

Tue Feb 20: Went to H. P. Donn's funeral. Mr. Abbott preached. Showery last night and to day. The boys plowing most of the day.
Wed Feb 21: Rain again last night. Mrs DeWolf & Andrew went to Mt. Vernon. Grant & self not doing much. In the P.M. went up to D. Peth's for music. Ida not so well. Rec'd her letter and wrote to her.

Mon Feb 26: Windy & blustery. Moved seed oats from Kalso's warehouse to mine. Fixed up the breaking plow and put 55 sks oats in the feed bin. Have 288 sks oats in the granary besides John's seed. The boys breaking sod in the P.M. Self burning brush down on the east end of ranch.
Tue Feb 27: John's oats came to 237.82 at $23.00. The boys plowing sod. Pleasant day. Self went to town got 10 lbs coffee & a large box of matches and can of oil. Grant had a runaway with the plow.
Wed Feb 28: Planted radishes. The boys plowing sod and Elmer and John both here for seed oats. Self choring.
March 1906
Thu Mar 01: The boys finished the sod and began on the Whitney piece where they left off last week. Self fixing the dam where the sewer is, also spaded up a bed for garden stuff and reset some rhubarb.
Fri Mar 02: The boys plowing, weather all night. Carter's folks here this P.M. and eve. Also Mr. Smith their uncle. Wrote to Ida this eve.
Sat Mar 03: Mrs Wharton's novel "House of Myrth". The boys plowing. Self choring and planted the bed with garden stuff. Light rain in the P.M. Mowed the lawn.
Sun Mar 04: Went to town to church and staid for evening service. Mr Carpenter began his meetings.
Mon Mar 05: The boys plowing in the 18 acre piece. Burned the straw stack. Self cutting thistles and doing chores.
Tue Mar 06: The boys & self hauling out stack bottom in the A.M. They plowed in the P.M. Very warm. M. 64° Self cutting thistles & painted the gate. A letter from Ida says shie is no better.
Wed Mar 07: Warm & pleasant. The boy's plowing in the PM. Hauling stack bottoms in the AM. Self up to Kalso's and Ball's to get money for Famine Fund for Japs.
Thu Mar 08: Pleasant & dry. The boys plowing. Self finished the stack bottom & hauled manure on the garden also plowed this little garden by the house. Sold the Black cow to Mills for $40.00.
Fri Mar 09: Small cow due Dec 9th. Warm & pleasant. Self working in the garden. The boys plowing and finished, also the garden. Mrs DeWolf went to the cemetery. A letter from Ida stating she was some better.
Sat Mar 10: No rain but strong south wind & falling bar. Self choring and working in the garden. Set out an asparagus bed. The boys went to town and got the harrow and timothy seed. Grant & Frank started for Tacoma to night.

Wed Mar 14: Mercury at 18° and 13° in LaC. and is the coldest on record in March. Clear & no sign of a thaw up. Andrew hauled a load of wood from Clappers in the P.M. I helped him haul the bal of the level posts. Denis & Butler here and bot "Timbers" for $325.00.
Thu Mar 15: Mercury at 18°. No sign of a let up. John & man here for the bal. of his seed oats. Andrew hauling post from the warehouse. Clear & cold. Self reading most of the time. Finished "Alice of Old Vincennes" also read some of "The Spoilers".

Thu Apr 19: Tholstrup got 6 sks oats. The great San Francisco Earthquake and fire yesterday. Andrew disking. Grant rolling. Self painted white on Grant's boat. Oiled the single harness, &c. Clowdy & cool but no rain. Harrowed the garden & potato patch.
Fri Apr 20: Cool, clowdy & dry with north wind. Andrew disking. Grant rolling. Lee Richards rolling after dinner. Self planted some peas, stratagem, also flower seeds & mowed the lawn. Mr Whites the coffee man here & I gave him an order for coffee 25 lbs and some baking powder.
Sat Apr 21: Andrew finished disking & harrowed the bal of the day. Lee & Grant rolling. Self mowed the lawn & worked around the garden. Was over to Whitney Island in the P.M. at Tate's & Woodburn's & A. Balls.
Sun Apr 22: Frank & Nettie here last night & to day. Went to BayView at 11 and at 2.30 & heard Mr Frescolen and Mr Shettock.

Wed May 23: Self & Andrew working on the Peth fence. Fine growing weather. Mrs McGuirk and Miss Johnson here from Bellingham.

Sun Aug 05: Went to LaC. to church and for a Launch ride in the P.M. Mr Rogers of B.V. died.

Sat Aug 11: Henry & Johnson cutting oats using Fred's Osborne. Finished the sod and cut a shock row around the 30 acre field across the road. Very hot to work. Andrew sick in the P.M. Straw heavy & the oats lights.
Sun Aug 12: Clowdy & looking like rain. People all cutting oats. Ida & self went to Mrs Whitneys with Frank & Lee in the Silvoside(?).
Mon Aug 13: Light rain & too wet to cut oats this A.M. Cutting in the P.M. but wet for down grain. Handy, Andrew, Thompson, Johnson & Grant working. Got the casting for the binder & fixed it up this A.M. Used it all but two rounds, broke the Osborne drapers.
Tue Aug 14: Very damp for harvesting. The men worked all day, same as yesterday. "Gen Rogers" helped. Grant only cut about seven acres. The men all turning grain about three hours.
Wed Aug 15: Rain some last night. Not cutting this A.M. John & self mowing & binding the Whitney field. All hands working in the P.M. as it was pleasant. Self & Ida went to LaC to Mrs Carter's entertainment.

Mon Aug 20: Finished cutting oats at 6.30 P.M. Had hard luck & had to get Byron's binder to finish. Thompson, Johnson, Handy, Andrew & Grant. Handy quit to night.
Tue Aug 21: Grant went to town to get the horses shod & sacks. Andrew took the binders home & went to Bay view & got Queen & Fay shod. Self choring & getting ready for threshing & put away the machinery. Very dry & smoky.
Wed Aug 22: Andrew & Grant cleaned out the well down to the Stearns place. Martin came to fix up machine but was too drunk.
Thu Aug 23: Andrew went to town & got Gertie Wallace. All getting ready to thresh. Hamburg & the engineer Hutchison fixing engine & Felton the separator. Got the machine out ready to move.
Fri Aug 24: Moved the machine over to Byrons and threshed in the P.M. 420 sks. Not much grain in the straw. Fine weather. Rector here as second feeder. Grant hauling water. Oats nice & dry. Andrew & Clapper driving my teams. John threshing but the machine bucking(?) & then only got out a little over 500 sks.
Sat Aug 25: Threshing at Byron's about 1000 sks. Self around the machine and went to BayView for water glasses. Fine weather.
Sun Aug 26: Threshing at Byrons. Weather fine fogy A.M.
Mon Aug 27: Finished Byrons at 9 P.M. moved to Peths. Weather fine. Threshing at Peths after 9.30.
Tue Aug 28: At Peths got out 1130 sks. Self went down to Wilsons in the P.M. to see the big machine.
Wed Aug 29: At Peth's till 4 P.M. then went to Fred Kalso's. Self went to town & settle up with Gaches for sacks, &c. Weather fine.

Sun Oct 21: Frost 32. Went to church at La C. Frank and Nettie here in the Silverside with the new engine.
Mon Oct 22: Johnson on the road. Self up to Balls dam & choring.
Tue Oct 23: Geo Darcy died. Johnson on the road. Ida & self went to Seattle and put up at the Hotel McGinnis.
Wed Oct 24: In Seattle, Johnson working when it don't rain. Rain in Seattle.
Thu Oct 25: In Seattle, Johnson & Stella running the ranch.
Fri Oct 26: Dito yesterday. At Palmer's to night.
Sat Oct 27: I am 57 today. Went back to McGinnis's and in PM went with the Dr to see a football game. No rain in Seattle.
Sun Oct 28: Went to the Christian church in the A.M. & to the Presbyterian in the eve. & heard Dr. Martin & Dr. Mathews. Sam Hancock & friends were killed to night by the north bound Flyer at Stanwood. Johnson still running the place.
Mon Oct 29: In Seattle still. Bot a Weber Piano & blowed(?) ourselves hard.
Tue Oct 30: In Seattle till 4.35 P.M. Got home at 9 P.M. Alf Stacey brot Susie to Burlington to night. She is very poorly. Rain last night. Miss Smith came.
Wed Oct 31: Johnson hauling manure & lumber. Rainy A.M. He got in 7 days on the road with team. Self choring & mowed the lawn three times, also went after Grant's launch.

Thu Nov 01: Johnson & self went to town, but a new stove and pair shoes. Fine day. Ball working at the old flume(?) and has it about filled up.
Fri Nov 02: Loaded 38 tons hay this A.M. Johnson & Wier helping. Burger brot the piano & took the old one away this P.M. Johnson went home.
Sat Nov 03: Doing chores & not much else. Windy.
Sun Nov 04: Rain again last night. The Whitney girls, Edna & Helen here to day also Mr Harrie, Mr Burger, John & Pearl and Nettie & Frank. Stella Gale left today at 8 P.M. I owe here $100-- to be paid on demand.
Mon Nov 05: A Weir began work to day. Grant away for a week to Camano Island.
Tue Nov 06: Election. Self went to Bay View & served as Judge. Art doing chores & put horses across the road. Very heavy rain.

Wed Nov 07: Dyke 3 hours. Self & Art working on the dyke or rather loaded the scow & Art cut wood part of the A.M.
Thu Nov 08: Self & Art fixed the Kalso line fence & unloaded the scow. Heavy rain in the P.M. Priest the medicine man here. Dyke 4 hours.
Fri Nov 09: Self & Arthur Weir worked on the dyke 6 hours. Took the scow down along Peths dyke.
Sat Nov 10: Ida & the girl went to Bay View for oil. Self & Weir working on the dyke 9 hours. Warm, pleasant.
Sun Nov 11: Went to church at Lac. & to Franks to dinner. Misty but warm.
Mon Nov 12: Heavy rain this A.M. Self & Art stopping a muskrat hole & he unloaded the scow. On dyke 10 hours for one man. Grant home.
Tue Nov 13: Rainy about all day. Stopping another rat hole. Four horses for one man. Rainy Not doing much in the P.M. but chores. Art splitting.
Wed Nov 14: Rain hard all day. This is about the worst month for rain we have had in five years. Art went to town for potatos. Self went & got the buggie & Nettie came home with me. Skagit River bank full.
Thu Nov 15: Art throwing out the first spading for a ditch on the east end of the Ranch. Most of the field covered with water. The river very high. Went to Burlington with Ida & staid all night. Susie Stacey very low.
Fri Nov 16: Came from Burlington this A.M. The G.N.R.R. bridge at the Davis place went out last night also the county bridge. Art deepening the dyke ditch at Purdy's warehouse. Owe Crumrine & Regenwetter on Derr acct $4.15 each. In the P.M. Fred & self fixed a gate latch & fixed the gate across the road. John sent for a load of seed oats 35 sks.
Sat Nov 17: Frost. Art went to the saw mill for fencing in the A.M. & hauled a load of brush in the P.M. Self not doing much. John's man took another load of seed oats. Frank White's folks & brot 1 1/2 doz chickens. Frank & Lee here with the Launch & staid all night. Pleasant & colder. [margin: Sullivan sold his hay for 12 dollars today.]
Sun Nov 18: Frost 26°. Clear & pleasant. Ida & Nettie went to Burlington on the train & home in the P.M. Mr Peths folks here this eve. Cool at night.
Mon Nov 19: Clowdy & warmer. Frank's folks went home this A.M. Johns man took a load of oats 38 sks. & Squires & man took 75 sks. Art helping Peth load his hay. It is reported that hay is worth $14 per ton now & oats are $24.00. Raining in the P.M. and strong south wind.
Tue Nov 20: Rainy day. This month take the cake for rain. Art & self hauled out a few load of straw & ashes from the stack bottom new Peths.
Wed Nov 21: Pleasant. Art hauling straw stack bottom. Self up to see Tholstrup. Sold 1000 sks oats to W.W. Robinson. Many others sold also. Self, Ida & Miss Smith went to the Baptist fair in the eve at LaConner.

Sat Nov 24: Frost 28. Self & Art 8 hours for one man. In the P.M. 3 hours for man & team hauling rock.
Sun Nov 25: Rainy A.M. Art went to Edison. Self went to LaC to church & brot Ida home from Franks.
Mon Nov 26: Frost 30. Walter for oats. Worked on the dyke 4 hours for one man. Putting in brush & rocks. Art hauling straw in the A.M.
Tue Nov 27: Walter for oats. Dyke 1 day for one. Putting in lumber by Huff's boat house. In the P.M. Art went to the Ridge & got Johns to cut the bull(?). Frost 28° Nothing else but chores this P.M.
Wed Nov 28: Frost 26° Walter for oats. Art hauling straw & finished the stack. Self went to town. Settled bills, &c. Oats still selling at $25.00 and hay at from $13.00 to $13.95.
Thu Nov 29: Thanksgiving. John & Pearl here also Palmer & Throup of Seattle & Walter Leatherwood. Maud Osborne married. Light sprinkle in the A.M. Pleasant P.M.
Fri Nov 30: Walter got the last of Johns oats 260 s. Frost. John & Pearl went home & the hunters this eve. Self & Art working at the ditch on the east "40" Grant took the Seattle boys to LaC.

Mon Dec 03: Susie Stacey died this forenoon 11:30. Self, Art & Grant working on the ditch in the A.M. Got up a team & Art began plowing in the P.M. Self fixed flower beds in the P.M. & Grant went to B.V. to get Nell shod.
Tue Dec 04: Art plowing. Self & Grant went to the saw mill to get lumber for boat house. In the P.M. filing saws. Grant hunting. Stormy some in the P.M. Showery day.
Wed Dec 05: Ida & I went to Susie's funeral at Burlington & self went to Mt. Vernon in the P.M. Art plowing. Grant not working. He went to Edison in the eve.
Thu Dec 06: Cleaned the big tank. Rainy day. Art choring, oiling harness, sorting potatos & &c. L. A. Fair at Bay View. Art & Grant went.
Fri Dec 07: Art splitting wood & pumping water in the big tank. I went up to see the Rector well machine at Byrons & then with Ida to the L.A. supper at B.V. Misty.
Sat Dec 08: Shipped the oats 1000 sks. per Steamer Fidalgo. Fred his also. Art & Grant helped load both lots. Art plowed about 3 hours.
Sun Dec 09: Nettie & Frank here to day & last night. Carrie Stacey came & went home again.

Sat Dec 15: Rain half of last night and all day today about 1 1/4 inches. Art & self working in the granary moving seed oats and fanning screenings. Alf Stacey here this P.M. & staid all night & Don Palmer came at ten P.M.
Sun Dec 16: Ida in LaC. D. Palmer here. Self at home. The Fidalgo getting Balls hay.
Mon Dec 17: Dr. Palmer went to Pearl's. Self went to town for Ida. Art choring & sawing up old rails for wood. Lots of water on the ground. Clowdy. Mrs. Turner at LaC. buried to day.
Tue Dec 18: Warm & pleasant. Highest tide of the season so far, but not very high. Art choring & worked on the ditch in the P.M.
Wed Dec 19: Rain P.M. Art working on the ditch in the A.M. Went after Carrie and the post hole auger in the P.M. Fanned oats some in the P.M. Subscribed for a $500.00 bond in the Puget Sound Associates Co.
Thu Dec 20: Misty & rainy all day. Land very wet. Fanning screenings about all day. Tank now has 5 1/2 ft of water in it and it was emptied & cleaned Dec 6th.
Fri Dec 21: Finished fanning screenings. Damp & windy. Frank & crew & Nettie came this eve on the launch Agness.
Sat Dec 22: Windy & light rain at night. The boys including Art went to Anacortes.. I went to LaC. Gear sold his hay to day for $16.00 per ton. Settled up with Vaughan & Son.
Sun Dec 23: At home all day. Took Miss Smith to the depot in the evening. She went to Seattle. Pleasant day for winter.
Mon Dec 24:[margin: Art Weir went to Fidalgo Island for Christmas.] All went to Wilson's in the Launch "Lady Agness". Had a Christmas tree and a pleasant time in the eve.
Tue Dec 25: Spent the day at Wilson's. Pleasant and mild. Light frost.

Thu Dec 27: Frost 25°. Clear & cool. Art plowing. Self choring & in the P.M. went to see the butcher up to D. Ball's.
Fri Dec 28: Art plowed two hours then went to get Burger. Killed the hogs in the P.M. Rainy some in the P.M.
Sat Dec 29: Art plowed in the A.M. & helped the butcher and took him home in the evening. Cool south wind.
Sun Dec 30: Rain & Snow. The "La C." went out with Byron's hay this A.M. & Frank & Grant came in with the launch. At home all day. Rain & snow but the snow melted as it fell.
Mon Dec 31: Mercury 28. Art working for Mr Peth & took a load of goods to LaConner for him. Peth moving to Seattle. Pearl & John here this P.M. and to night. Had a watch meeting party here to night. Some young people from Bay View. Thus endeth 1906.
Tue Jan 01: Cold mercury at 28° and not thawing much all day. Frank had a boom of logs broken open at the draw bridge last night and the logs went adrift. Went with Grant & Art over to the draw to see about it and walked back. Grant went on to LaC. in his boat. Mercury at 23° at 9 P.M. Stacey boys here.
Wed Jan 02: Mercury 24°. Ground frozen quite hard. Art hauling dirt to fill the low place in the east "40" where we put the new ditch. Self doing chores, cutting wood & working on pioneer books.
Thu Jan 03: Heavy wind this A.M. Art hauling dirt. Self choring. Went to B.V. for oil & worked on Pioneer books. Everett Wallace here yesterday & to day.
Fri Jan 04: Art working on the ditch. Snowing a good part of the day. Self went to church roll call meeting. Frank, Lee & Grant monkeying with the lost logs all this week. [margin: Mercury 26° at 9 P.M.]
Sat Jan 05: Mercury 18° this A.M. Snow 1 inch deep. Self & Art working on the ditch & finished covering it. Brot the mares up from the lower field & fed them for the first time this winer. They are all fat. Temp 25° at 9 P.M.
Sun Jan 06: Temp 17°. Clear & cold all day. At home. Wrote to Geo. Ruby Woodburn here this P.M. Temp 22 at 10 P.M.
Mon Jan 07: Temp 16° this A.M. At 5 still clear & cold. Art moving hay in the horse barn & fanning oats in the P.M. John sent Walter for a load of Grant's oats.
