Thu Dec 29: Strong south wind and the highest tide for ten years. It ran over the dyke in some places and broke Arie Balls dyke in two places. Moon full a week ago. Highest tide dur on the 26th according to tide table. Frank hauled a load of wood in the A.M. We fixed a rat hole and some dyke in the P.M. Tide 1 1/2 inch short of the big tides of 1886 & 1895. Mrs. Tillinghast here to day & to night. Grant at Pearl's.
Fri Dec 30: Hard wind all night and another tide to day within four inches of the tide yesterday. Self went to town to Roll call meeting and took Mrs. T. home. LaConner flooded.
Sat Dec 31: Frank hauled a load of wood & did the chores. Self mended the rocking chair & fixed up for killing pigs.

Sun Jan 01: Stormy & windy. Self went over to Frank White's. Wrote to Geo in the eve.
Mon Jan 02: Went to LaConner with Otto Kalso to a telephone meeting. Weather still warm. Myners wants 225 lbs. seed oats.
Tue Jan 03: Strong west wind. Self, Frank & Fred Kalso put a scow load of dirt on the dyke in the A.M.
Wed Jan 04: Frank & Nettie went to town in the P.M. Mr & Mrs Peth here this P.M.
Thu Jan 05: Nice pleasant day - Killed the pigs this A.M. & Fred Kalso helped - & we got through before noon. Began building a new chicken yard.
Fri Jan 06: Lovely day. Temp 45 noon 37 A.M. John Wilson got hurt yesterday P.M. Ankle sprained. Cut up the pigs. Cut lard and made sausage.
Sat Jan 07: Frank at B.V. Self reading and fixed a shovel to work on the dyke with. Light rain in the A.M. but pleasant P.M.
Sun Jan 08: Frank & Nettie went to Bay V. last night and from there to Johns and are there to day. Steamer Edison here for Krutzmans oats, Majarus oats & John's oats. Clear & pleasant. Fri Jan 13: Temp 30. Light snow this A.M. Resalted the pork and demolished the wood shed. Brier bush & grape vine.
Sat Jan 14: Went to town. Paid Polson H. & S.C. to date. Sprinkled rain some & clowdy. Frank did chores & went to basketball game.
Sun Jan 15: Went to church at B.V. light rain most of the day. Mr. Chilberg died to day. Aged 92.
Mon Jan 16: Fred took Martins seed oats and Frank went with him and they went for church in the eve. Self did chores, went to the station and up to Byron's. They are getting ready to go at the well. Sent $1000.00 to Geo for storing in Scranton Bank. Sent interest money to Eva. Warm & spring like.
Tue Jan 17: Fogy. Went with Otto K. to the funeral. Frank choring. John & Grant here. Pleasant but cool.
Wed Jan 18: Self & Frank went to the saw mill & got a load of lumber for wood house. In the P.M. began tearing down the tank house. Peter Miller here this eve & all night.
Thu Jan 19: Roy Carter sick. Rainy day. Not doing much but chores. Self filed the saws. Peter Miller here to day.
Fri Jan 20: Peter went home this A.M. Self & Frank tearing down tank house & moving the tank. Pleasant day. Roy Carter sick.

Tue Jan 24: Miss Gale began work to day. High tide this A.M. but 6 inches short of the big tide last moon. Self up to Byrons. They started the well yesterday A.M. and were down 36 ft today noon. Frank hauled a load of lumber this P.M. Both working on foundation this P.M. Frank to LaC. in the eve. Pleasant day. Mercury at 50 this A.M.

Thu Feb 02: Frost 23° Finished load the oats at 330 this A.M. 700 sks sold to Gaches. Self & Frank finished shingling & corner boards. He went to the mill in the P.M. Self made a window frame.
Fri Feb 03: Light frost. Self making window frames & putting in windows. Frank sawing & putting in lumber, hung up the meat to smoke and fixed the incubator house for pigs in the P.M. Clowdy.
Sat Feb 04: Pleasant & a light frost. Frank washing & oiling harness. Self made a door frame & hung the door in the woodhouse. Grant tore the old tank to pieces by the old house & cut it up for wood.

Sat Mar 04: Work same as yesterday. Self choring & went to see Olson move Donkey Engine and in the P.M. went to Hawkins to see Garlets clear land with a Donkey Engine. They have a pile of stumps & logs 50 ft high.

Fri Mar 10: Frank plowing stubble. Grant came home and plowed sod from 10-15. Self working at the kitchen hanging a door, fixing safes, & painting, also spaded up a bed for early vegetables. [margin: Grant got a new wheel at Pete's for $30.00]
Sat Mar 11: Frank & self papered the kitchen. Rain a good part of the day. Grant doing shoes. Over one half inch of rain fell. John & Pearl came this eve & the Boys all went to LaC to Basket Ball.
Sun Mar 12: Some rain last night. John & Pearl went home. Self & Pearl went to church at B.V. Cold but no rain.
Mon Mar 13: Grant plowing & finished the sod. Frank went to town & took some oats up to Jenne's for feed & put 6 sks in the feed bin. also got 1/2 ton rolled barley & got the timothy seed, also a new disk harrow.
Tue Mar 14: No rain. Grant & Frank plowing stubble by the stock. Self fixed the chicken yard & did other chores. Grant burned the stack. Pleasant day.
Wed Mar 15: Clowdy & a light rain in the P.M. but the boys kept on plowing. Self tearing down fence and taking out posts out along the lane. Gabriel here and got the big black cow for beef. Preacher Schoomaker & wife here calling.
Thu Mar 16: Foggy most all day. The boys plowing. Self working about the house. In the P.M. moved out in the new kitchen. Took up the linoleum & moved the stove.
Fri Mar 17: Ida in bed with cold. The boys plowing. Damp & misty most all day. Self tearing out the partition between dining room & pantry, making a larger dining room.
Sat Mar 18: The boys plowing. Foggy & damp. Self cut a place for & hung a door to the bathroom. They finished all the plowing except the last two furrows around the fields which must be done with two horses.

Fri May 12: Frank painting some & fixing sax some. Self & Grant nailed down the kitchen floor. Grant went to Wilsons in the P.M. Self went to Lauter's Mother's funeral. Went to the station twice for Ida but she did not come. Planted some more corn and peas. The first planting of corn did not come up good. Too cold & dry.

Sun May 14: At home all day. John & Pearl here. Cool & dry.
Mon May 15: All painting. Self & Grant 3/4 Fence day. Callahan at the well and down 41 ft. on second hole.
Tue May 16: Grant not working went to Seattle. Self & Frank cleaned out the old house. Showery most of the day but not rain enough to help the oats much. Mr. & Mrs. Pace here from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M.
Wed May 17: Pleasant. Self up to the well & painting some in the P.M. Frank painting fence.
Thu May 18: Frost this A.M. which cut potatos, tomatoes, squashed &c. Clear & pleasant. Self & Ida went to town and visited Tillinghasts. Frank painting. They are down 50 ft with the well.
Fri May 19: Frank went to town for linoleum &c. Self choring & help put down the lin. Planted some more beans.
Sat May 20: Frank painting buggie. Self planted more squashes and set out some more tomatos.
Sun May 21: John W. birthday. Self went down to Pearls. Clowdy but no rain. Oats looking better since the rain. Grant in Seattle yet.
Mon May 22: Rain another inch last night & today. Frank painted on the spring wagon some & did the chores. Self choring & reading "Everybuddy's Mag."
Tue May 23: Rain again last night & most of the day over three inches of water has fallen now since Fri night. The most in the same time for over a year. Grant not home yet. Has been away one week. [margin: Big rain.]
Wed May 24: Cleaning & oiling & painting the old farm wagon. Pleasant. Self up to the well in the PM. They are not doing much.
Thu May 25: Frank cleaning up the other wagon, mowing lawn & hoing garden. Warm & pleasant. Fine growing weather. Self in town & got my new teeth. Callahan but the well all up and quit. So out dream of fresh water is only a dream. Settle up with Gaches & Polson. Sent money order for a watch chain.
Fri May 26: Fine growing day. Frank painted the other wagon. In the P.M. we set a gate post & hung & made a gate up at the hay barn. Callahan moved his well machine. Planted some vegetable last night & set out some cauliflower plants.

Thu Jun 01: All working on the tank house. Fine growing weather. Lewis & Clark Fair opened to day. Oats looking fine & better than last year. Got the tank foundation ready for the tank.
Fri Jun 02: Fine day. Working the garden. Made another ladder and three more eave troughs. Frank went to town and got a door for kitchen, windows for tank house, water pipes & cow feed, &c. Also took 15 sks oats to town. Grant went to night school. Hunting pidgeons in the P.M.
Sat Jun 03: 4 inches rain since May 19th. Rainy most all day. Self filed saw and made a door frame & read some. Rec'd a letter from Geo Sisson.
Sun Jun 04: Went to church at LaC. in the A.M. Home in the P.M. & wrote to Geo. Heard that Mrs Stearns died last night in Seattle after an operation for Gall stones & appendicitus.
Mon Jun 05: Not doing much in the A.M. Went to Mrs Stearns funeral in the P.M. at B.V. Pleasant. Fine growing weather.
Tue Jun 06: Self, Frank & Grant digging ditch & laying pipe from Kalso's granary to the new tank. Pleasant day.
Wed Jun 07: Went down to look over dyke with Johnson & Fred. The boys painted the mastic on the tank house & took some lumber down to the dyke. Then began cleaning off the roof of the house.
Thu Jun 08: Cleaning off the roof & choring. Grant working at his books most of the time. Frank went after strawberries. Self went to town in the A.M. Fine growing weather.

Thu Jun 15: Frank went to Fox's Mill for cedar lumber for box for sewer drain. We afterward made the boxes & put three of them in. History man here again. Self down where Johnson is working on dyke in the P.M.
Fri Jun 16: Hard shower this A.M. 1/2 hour. Put in the rest of the ditch boxes. Grant worked three house doing nothing in the P.M. Frank went to see Dr. Jackson. Self over to see Amos Balls barn & crop.
Sat Jun 17: The tank came last night & Frank went after it to day. In the P.M. took it apart and laid the bottom. Warm & pleasant. Laid a false floor for the tank in the A.M. Grant helping some.

Thu Jun 29: Self & Frank working at the sewer. Dug the ditch & laid the pipe. Grant helping the plumber. Put in the flushing barrell & pipes into the tank. Fine weather. Pearl & John came home from the fair.
Fri Jun 30: Self & Frank put the sewer through the dyke & pumped water (18 inches) in the big round tank. Grant helped some & helped the plumber some. Pleasant. Put in the stones & turned on the water for the first time.

Sat Jul 01: Self went to town in the A.M. Took dinner with Tillinghasts. Helping Mitchell & picking up around the tank house in the P.M. Mitchell finished the plumbing. Thu Jul 06: Grant began mowing the piece by the Purdy warehouse. Pleasant. Self took window out of the kitchen and put in a glass door. Frank finished varnishing the bathroom.
Fri Jul 07: Grant tedding, raking & putting up hay. Self working around tank house in the A.M. & making cupola for the tank house in the P.M. Raked a shock row of hay & Douglas, George & Frank shocking in the P.M. Hay rather light, but good quality. Pleasant.
Sat Jul 08: Grant mowing in the east end of the "80". D. & George putting up hay 3/4, Frank tedding & putting up in the A.M. Self raked the bal of the piece by the Granary(Purdy's). Frank went to town in the P.M. for supplies, &c. Self hung a screen door & ground sickles & worked on the cupola. Fine hay weather.

Wed Jul 12: Grant mowing. Self tedding & raking. Frank tedding in the P.M. The men finished the old meadow. 23 acres. The sisters here last night & took the baby to Bellingham today & Ida went with them. Fine drying weather.
Thu Jul 13: Clowdy & showery. Pumped 8 in's water in the tank. Put up one windrow of shocks around the field. Grant mowed 2 rounds only. Rained quite a shower in the P.M.
Fri Jul 14: Rainy this A.M. & clowdy all day. Doing nothing with the hay. The men pitching ???rts. Self finished up the cupola & worked in the garden some. Frank helped on the cupola & painted it.
Sat Jul 15: The men doing nothing weather dull & bad for haying. Choring a little & finished the tank house.

Tue Aug 01: Self & Frank repairing the roof to the bale barn & choring in the P.M. Grant doing nothing. Win went to town in the P.M. at Tillinghasts. Warm & dry. No signs of rain & very dusty. Was offered 8.00 for the hay.
Wed Aug 02: Grant & Frank hauling hay out of the oats & a load of manure in the A.M. Frank hauling manure in the P.M. Grant & Win went to Pearls in the P.M. & self to Roy's Mill.
Thu Aug 03: Grant away. Frank & self went to Gorton's Mill for lumber & wood and in the P.M. to LaC. for wood. Clowdy but no rain. Lots of people baling hay.
Fri Aug 04: Mr Mitchell here and fixed the water tank. Grant & Frank hauling "dressing" & gravel in the P.M. byt the granary, &c. Clowdy & very light showers. Self made a ladder in the P.M.
Sat Aug 05: Self & Win went to the Pioneer meeting at Sedro Woolly. Tillinghast went also. Was elected as secretary of the accociation. The boys hauled rocks to weight the tank down. Went home with & staid all night with Mr. Van Fleet's folks.
Sun Aug 06: Came home at 2 P.M. Warm & pleasant. Nettie has got some kind of measles. Win Greene & the boys started for Portland on the six P.M. train (Frank & Grant) Win bound for PA via San Francisco.
Mon Aug 07: Self doing chores & not much else. Warm & dry. Amos Ball began cutting oats. Grain all ripening fast.
Tue Aug 08: Nettie not very sick. Self went to town & took ten sheaves of oats for Tillinghast to send to Portland Fair. Dry & dusty. Peth brot my binding twine from Mt. Vernon. The grain will all ripen at once.
Wed Aug 09: Clear & pleasant. Byron began cutting oats. Self doing chores & made a wagon bed for the new wagon.
Thu Aug 10: Cleaned out and covered the tank up at the hay barn. Went to town in the P.M. Ida & the baby came to Pearl's today. Conner cutting oats to day. They will all do to cut next week.
Fri Aug 11: Another fine day for harvesting. Went down to Pearl's in the A.M. Cutting some Fair Oats and fixing up binder in the P.M. Peth began cutting and several are cutting on the Samish. Heard from Geo Fulk that he would run separator.

Sun Aug 13: Self went over to Whites. The boys came home from the fair. Pleasant.
Mon Aug 14: Light rain last night & some clowdy to day. Cutting oats in the P.M. Frank & Sorenson helping. S 3/4 of a day. Opened up the Whitney piece and found it full as heavy as it was last year to all appearances. Looks like rain to night.
Tue Aug 15: Cutting from 9 A.M. Had bad luck in the A.M. Thompson, Sorenson & New man in the P.M. Grant binder, Frank shocking & fixing drapers, etc. Oats fine & heavy. Weather damp A.M. Fine P.M.
Wed Aug 16: 1/2 in. Rainy most of the day. Doing nothing. Grain in bad shape. Caught considerable water, nearly a foot in the big tank. Burger(?) here & got the banjo & I bot the phonograph. It looks dubious for harvesting.
Thu Aug 17: Sorenson, Thompson, Fender & Quincy. Damp in the forenoon. Henry & Frank hauled a load of wood each. Self choring. Grant sick but drove binder part of the P.M. The men putting up wet grain in the P.M. & shocked the piece here by the house.
Fri Aug 18: No rain but damp A.M. Fine P.M. Cutting, Grant binder till three P.M. Self till 9 P.M. Got the wet grain all set up. Crew: Sorenson, Fender, Thompson, Quincy. Grain fine. Nearly done with the 18 acre piece.

Mon Aug 28: Fired up the machine & got ready to move but it rained after for more or less all day. Mr Highbarger & wife call on us. Had not seen him for twenty-five years.
Tue Aug 29: Pleasant but not drying very fast. Went to see the manure spreader and to see how they were getting on fixing dyke. Moved the machine in the P.M. and threshed 9 sacks for Byron. Grain damp. John finished threshing this P.M.
Wed Aug 30: Rain 1/2 inch last night. Not threshing to day. Amos Ball threshing after 3 P.M. Pleasant most of the day.
Thu Aug 31: Threshing at Byron's. Got out 945 sks. Fine day. Grant & Frank. Art Jorgenson and two teams with the machine. Hamburg here to see about getting grate patterns for engine.

Sat Sep 02: Threatening rain. Finished Byrons at 2 P.M. 2470 sks about 35 per acre. Moved to Kalso's (Jenne Ranch) & threshed 300 sks. Self setting up shocks in the A.M. & at the machine in the P.M.
Sun Sep 03: Self went to LaConner to church & to Carter's to dinner. Pleasant. The machine at Fred's and not threshing very much.
Mon Sep 04: Self over to the machine in the A.M. & to see Felton in the P.M. up above Woolley. The machine finished Freds & moved to Fulks at 2 P.M.

Mon Sep 18: Machine at Peths. 1180 sks. Self choring & went to town in the P.M. Sacks scarce. Hay 8 to 8.50 and oats $23.00. Clowdy.
Tue Sep 19: Machine at Peth's. Threshed till 3.30 and quit for rain. Self fixed tables & gangway to granary. Nettie went to town in the P.M.
Wed Sep 20: Clowdy all day, but no rain to speak of. Threshed in the P.M. but it was pretty wet. Peth finished & the machine went to Crumrines at 5 P.M. Self worked five hours put up down shocks & Frank helped two hours in the A.M. Peth had 2995 sks.
Thu Sep 21: More showers last night & damp to day. Balls machine at Woodburns threshing this P.M. Out machine not running. Self & Frank went to town. Grant hunting. Oats $23.00 hay $8.00

Fri Sep 22: Threshing at Crumrine's. Grain very wet & tough in the A.M. Fogy A.M.
Sat Sep 23: Damp & fogy. Machine finished Crumrine's & began here at 2 P.M. got out 321 sks. Sold 35 to Fred & 260 to Fulk.
Sun Sep 24: Threshing about two hours and had to quit for rain. Rained about 1/2 inch. Nearly all the crew went home. 460 sks out.
Mon Sep 25: Rainy & windy. Doing nothing. Frank & Grant went to town. The str LaConner here for Fred's oats. The Oat Look is billions.
Tue Sep 26: Lots more rain last night & the shocks well soaked this A.M. Self, Frank & R??? went over the fields & fixed up the shocks. Clowdy all the A.M. & not drying much.
Wed Sep 27: Another soaking rain last night. Tank filled up 9 inches. Some wind & drive off some to day. Frank & Henry digging potatos & picking pears. Went with Ida to look for girls up at Fredonia. Grant went up to O'Leery's for Stitt. Barometer still low.
Thu Sep 28: Clowdy & threatening but did not rain. Threshing 3/4 about 700 total to night & for the 27 acres across the road 1152. The sod made about 510. Frank started for Tacoma to night. Prospect is good to night for a fine day tomorrow.
Fri Sep 29: Damp & clowdy but threshed all but on half hour and got out 1030 sks. Rained a shower at 4 P.M. & again in the eve.
Sat Sep 30: Pleasant day. Threshed till 6.30 & finished. Got out about 1200 of fine oats. This is the best crop every grown on the ranch. 3382 sks besides over 100 sks of good screenings. 82 acres. Had to go to town & got more sacks & twine & beef.

Sun Oct 01: Frost. Graham put the machine in the shed this A.M. Afterwards John Jenne phoned for it and Graham took it to his place to thresh. He sprung the shaft on his engine & could not use it. It began to rain at noon & rained the balance of the day & night. [margin: Stella left to got to fair.]
Mon Oct 02: Raining most of the day. This is the heaviest rain of the season so far and it look doubtful about saving any more oats. Frank came home. Mrs Gillam(?) went home and Ella Jorgenson came. Self & Frank wrapping water pipe with socks in the A.M. Wrote to Geo. Grant down to Wilsons. Frank worked since May 1st 57 hay, harvest & threshing 35. $136.00
Tue Oct 03: Wrapping water pipes in the A.M. Sowing grass seed in the P.M. Nettie & Frank went to town. Damp & stormy A.M.

Thu Oct 05: Finished hauling straw in the A.M. Self went to town in the P.M. Grant baling hay this week. Wet & showery. Bad outlook for grain that is out. Frank choring in the P.M. Ella Jorgenson went to the Fair.
Fri Oct 06: High tide, high wind & lots of rain. Self & Frank fanning screenings. Warm.
Sat Oct 07: Pleasant most of the day but a shower at night. Finished the screenings & Frank put 40 sks of 82 lbs in the feed bine. Self went to the Mt. Vernon Fair. Lots of oats to thresh yet & they are badly damaged.
Sun Oct 08: Rain lots last night & to day. It has rain some every day for fifteen day except Thurs the 28th of Sept.
Mon Oct 09: Pleasant. Kalso baling hay. Grant helping Frank in LaConner. Self choring. Some threshing in the P.M.
Tue Oct 10: Pleasant. Set posts out on dyke some, burned a straw stack. Cleaned out ditch out by the sewer box. Went up to John Jennes in the P.M. I think his grain will keep but it is damages. Ida & Nettie went over to Frank Whites. Grant hunting.
Wed Oct 11: Showery. Choring. Sawing wood & fixing a dam in the ditch by the sewer box. Grant baling hay some.
Thu Oct 12: Showery A.M. Pleasant P.M. Fulk's boys over & we cleaned out the engine. Downy's boy got 65 sack oats. Fred baling hay. Frank home this eve.
Fri Oct 13: Downy got the bal of his oats. Pleasant. John Peth threshing but has two or three days left yet. Fred baling.
Sat Oct 14: Rain all the A.M. Self burning a straw stack. Pleasant P.M. & Fred baling again. A letter from Geo this P.M. Land is pretty wet.
Sun Oct 15: Rained most all last night, but is pleasant this A.M. At home all day. Frank & Grant here and John & Pearl & son to dinner.
Mon Oct 16: No rain till night. Henry Thompson began work. Hauling manure from the old stack bottom. Ella Jorgenson went home & Stella Gale came back. Peth began baling hay at 4.30. Kalso finished.
Tue Oct 17: Henry Thompson quit to go to school. Clear & strong N. wind. Hauled out a load of straw manure, cut some wood, did the chores & went to Bells to see hay press. Grant hunting. The broke down at Peths. M. at 34 at 8 P.M. Prospect of a frost.
Wed Oct 18: Hard frost 26°. Burning straw & choring. H. Kruse & man here with a drove of horses & staid all night. Hardest freeze ever saw in Oct. except one. John Ball's water pipes burst. John Peth finished threshing.

Mon Oct 23: No rain but threatening. Franks moved & Ida went with them. Crumrine helped & took up a load and brot back a load of wood to bale with. Self went up & brot groceries & baling wire.
Tue Oct 24: Rain last night and showery today. Self fixed a dam for the sewer box. Cut wood & went to Willards to see about cutting wood for baling. Grant hunting & went to LaConner in the P.M. Mrs. Wharton's novel "The House of Mirth"
Wed Oct 25: Johnson began woork at 9.30. Worked on dyke 5 hours. Self on the dyke 2 1/2 hours scowing dirt. Don Palmer here. Pleasant. fixing dyke by the Purdy warehouse.
Thu Oct 26: Pleasant. Johnson hauling stack manure. Self helping 1/2. Self & Grant helped unload the scow in the P.M. Don started for Seattle at 10.45.
Fri Oct 27: I am 56 today. Pleasant a light frost. Johnson hauling manure & straw in the P.M. Plowing around the slough in the Whitney Field. Self & Grant helping unload the scows in the P.M.
Sat Oct 28: Light frost. Grant & Johnson grading the Whitney field slough. Scraping with two teams. Self helping & choring. Schmidt working on the dyke and has been here to dinner the past 4 days.
Sun Oct 29: One of the finest days on record. Went to LaC. & to Carters to dinner. To church Com meeting. In the P.M. at Mrs Gaches. Stella had old Nell & went home to day.
Mon Oct 30: Frost light. Very fine day. Johnson & Grant scraping in the slough. Fulk, D. Esary, E. Crumrine here to settle up. Took bak 150 sks Fulks Seed oats and bot his half of the machine. The men finished the slough. Zerwekh here to see about buying hay.
Tue Oct 31: Fine day. Frost 28° Grant hauling gravel on the road. Johnson & self hauling out straw & manure & cleaning up around the straw stack.

Tue Nov 07: Frost. Pleasant. Baling hay. Have 70 tons out. Self choring & hauling water. Also hauled a lod of engine wood from Fulks. John & Grant here to dinner.
Wed Nov 08: Frost & foggy. Very damp on the hay this A.M. Baling. Finished the old barn & began on the shed. 97 tons out tonight. Ben Tjersland here for seed oats & got 80 sks.
Thu Nov 09: Tjersland got the bal of his oats & 150 sacks all told. Baling, foggy & light frost. Went to Abbotts for wire. Hauling water & choring. Johnson (Otto & Fred measured) finished the dyke. The job came to $341 besides lumber.
Fri Nov 10: Pleasant. Foggy A.M. Baling hay. They got out 36 tons. Self at the same job. Grant at Wilsons making big money?
Sat Nov 11: Baling & finished at 4 P.M. They had to quit three hours to fix the press in the A.M. Warm & pleasant. Had ____ tons hay. Pearl & John came up & staid all night.
Sun Nov 12: Warm & pleasant for the time of year. All went over to Frank Whites to dinner. Saw Clarence White. Mr White still in bed & about same as when I saw him last. Cost of baling hay this year 183 1/2 tons

Thu Nov 16: Light rain last night & this A.M. The Fidalgo in for Peths oats. Ida went to Bellingham. Johnson & self moved the seed oats over to keep mine from working at them. In the P.M. went to LaC. & Johnson got a load of stove wood.
Fri Nov 17: Strong south wind & light rains. Some thunder in the P.M. Johnson went to LaC for another load of wood. Self choring, wrapping water pipe, piling wood, &c.
Sat Nov 18: Cold raw south east wind. Johnson hauling gravel on my lane. Self went to Dr. Fulks sale. Rec'd a letter from George. He complains of feeling very poorly. Weight of Wilsons 55090 = $234.04.
Sun Nov 19: Quite a heavy rain last night. Clowdy & threatening all day to day. Ida in B. Self at home all day reading & writing to George.
Mon Nov 20: Frost. Self & Johnson hauling brush all day. Two big loads. No rain.
Tue Nov 21: Frost & vey damp & fogy. Self & J. worked on the dyke two hours putting in some posts near the Purdy warehouse. & fixed fence on the dyke by Peths gate. In the P.M. went out down across the road and fixed fence on the Purdy line and the Byron line. Ida came home on the evening train.
Wed Nov 22: Fogy all day. Went to the stain & got the furniture & & Johnson went to Fulks & got the other load of wood. In the P.M. Johnson began cleaning out the dyke ditch on the the south side next to J. Ball.
Thu Nov 23: Frost 32°: Clear & pleasant. Johnson cleaning out ditch. Self went to the saw mill & got lumber for the stock fence panels and work to wood house. Ida sick abed with tonsilitis.
Fri Nov 24: Frost & fog. 30°. Johnson at the ditch. Self went to town & went to Netties to dinner. Ida some better & down stairs.
Sat Nov 25: Heavy rain last night. Johnson not working in the A.M. helping pump water, make and carry out panels for stack fence in the P.M. Cleaned out the 5000 gal tank this A.M.
Sun Nov 26: Cool. Went to Bay View to church this A.M. Was up to Fred Eyres this P.M. to get the telephone receiver fixed.
Mon Nov 27: Frost 28°. Johnson at the ditch. Self hanging doors in the wood house and began on the walk to the wood house.
Tue Nov 28: Frost 26°. Johnson ditching. Self finished the walk and went to clear brush off from the dyke in the P.M. the history man Averill here tonight and read history to me all the eve.

Mon Dec 11: Took the scows down to the dam & loaded it, self & Grant. In the P.M. Fred & I unloaded it. Pleasant light frost. Was over to see Amos Ball's dyke & Otto's also.

Thu Dec 28: Began feeding the pigs chop feed last night. Showery day. Put up the register for the tank. Reading "Hearts Courageous". Ground full of water now.
Fri Dec 29: More rain today. Not doing much, chores. Mr Evans here trying to sell a piano.
Sat Dec 30: Cold north west wind. Evans brot a Cecilian Piano for us to try.
Sun Dec 31: Pleasant & cooler. Self & Grant went to church in the A.M. at B.V. Heard a good sermon from Rev. Mr. Sullivan.
Mon Jan 01: Stormy day. Rain & sleet. Grant doing chores. Self went to Mt. Vernon to talk piano with Berger. Got home at 8 P.M.
