Fri Dec 26: Rainy part of the day. Ida about as usual but was downstairs. Began reading "Marieall". Grant went to Williamsons to party. Fixed up the wagon & the plows to go to town.
Sat Dec 27: The Northern Light here for hay for Zewerkh and took 45 tons 1345 lbs. Raining slightly again.
Sun Dec 28: Cool south wind and light rain. Light frost last night.
Mon Dec 29: New Moon. Self & Grant went to LaConner & got the seed oats, sk. sugar, sk. flour & pair gum boots also took the plows up to be fixed. John Ball's flume gate gave way to day and part of his land is flooded.
Tue Dec 30: Rain this A.M. John Ball's flume still out of fix & his ranch nearly flooded. Very heavy wind all last night but not a very high tide.
Wed Dec 31: Ida very sick to day. Dr. Howe here to see her. Pearl & John came & staid all night.

Mon Feb 02: Got tax receipts. Dyke district was 449.72 current at this date. Put up the telephone poles and stretched the wire once. Conrad began work. Went to the saw mill in the P.M.
Tue Feb 03: Frost. Conrad hauling lumber & hauling old fence rails in the P.M. Self & Grant nailed on the bal of the fence boards.
Wed Feb 04: Conrad hailing rails. John Wilson & Grant stretching wire for telephone line. Self choring around. Clear & pleasant. Edna Dwelley married.

Mon Jun 01: C. sawing wood and hauling dirt to fix the approach to the platform scales at Peths. Self working in the garden. Planted some spinach. Pleasant but cool. Early oats looking the best. John put two horses in my pasture.
Tue Jun 02: Conrad mowing woods, cutting thistles mowing the yard & sawing wood. Self went to Mr. Polson's funeral and took dinner with Elmer. Pleasant day. River getting high.
Wed Jun 03: Self & C. fixing dyke by Kalso warehouse. Grant at Mr McGinnis. Got a letter from him(McGinnis) last night. Oats looking well gardens also.
Thu Jun 04: Wrote to Ida and sent her $20.00. Gt Northern R.R. bridge went out yesterday. Self & C. working on the dyke by the warehouses. Mrs Wallace & the piano man here to dinner. Warm south wind all day. Good for melting snow.
Fri Jun 05: Pleasant day with warm north wind. Heard Grant was getting along all right. C. hauling dirt to fix dyke at the Kalso warehouse. Self working in the garden some. Stitt got 48 sks oats.
Sat Jun 06: Very drying weather. Strong north wind. Heard that Ida had a back set and had postponed coming home. C. hauling dirt on dyke in the AM. Self & C went for a load of engine wood to the saw mill in the P.M.
Sun Jun 07: Warm & dry strong N. wind. Went to church at Bay View and was home alone the bal of the day. Wrote to Geo and Ida.
Mon Jun 08: Mercury 78° here 84 at Kalsos. Self & C. making sluice boxes in the P.M. C. hauling dirt in the P.M. Warmest day of the year so far. Skagit getting dangerously high. Grant came home to day all right.
Tue Jun 09: The warmest day of the year. Yesterday 96° in Seattle and 97 in Tacoma. River raised 1 1/2 ft. C. hauling rock for protecting dyke. Self working in the garden some and set out some celery plants.
Wed Jun 10: Warm & dry. River still high. John went to Whatcom today for Ida. Self, Grant & C. hauled a load of brush and put them in the slough and put 4 loads of rock on the bank. Began digging for the sluice box & took it up to the hay barn on the scow. C. went to LaC. at 4.30 .
Thu Jun 11: Put in sluice box at the hay barn. Chris, Fred & Sorenson helping Fred 3/4 Chris 1/2. Sorenson 1/2. Warm & dry. Ida came to Anacortes and John went home.

Mon Jul 06: Went to the station with Maud. Then up to Osbornes. Mowed some in the lawn. Grant came home. Showery light.
Tue Jul 07: C. came home last night. All went to town to day & got mower and haying supplies, a bb flour & sk sugar.
Wed Jul 08: Self went down to Pearl's. Ida sick again same as last winter, also went to Edison for medicine. C. & Grant put a scow load of dirt out on the dyke & split wood. Several people cutting grass. Was over to Esary's place in the eve. to see his mower work. Staid all night at Johns.
Thu Jul 09: Pleasant day. Came home from the Samish. Took another scow of dirt up to the hay barn dam. C. worked at the dirt and mowed some in the orchard. Fine hay weather.
Fri Jul 10: C. cutting thistles & mowing with sythe. Grant began mowing in the P.M. & cut the piece by the hay barn. It is down and most all clover. Ida still poorly and at Pearl's. W. Redfern here yesterday & today.
Sat Jul 11: In B.V. in the A.M. helping Peth. G. not working. In P.M. C. tedding piece by hay barn. Grant mowing across the road till 5 P.M. Put a load of hay from the orchard in the barn & ten sks of feed oats. Clowdy.
Sun Jul 12: Went down to Pearl's and found Ida as miserable as ever. Art Whitney at Pearls. Got home at 9 P.M.
Mon Jul 13: Hard rain last night & lots of hay wet 1/2 inch. C & G. not working in the A.M. Cleaning out ditch in the P.M. Self went to town in the P.M. & got Nell shod & got a new hay carrier. Clowdy & poor hay weather.

Thu Jul 23: Grant helping Fred haul bales 1/2 and hauling for me in the P.M. The Press came here at 2 P.M. and began to bale the 10 acre piece. Conrad got his wrist broken at 5.30. Baled about 9 tons. Smith hauled his hay & in the P.M. fixed up shocks.

Mon Aug 17: Pleasant day. Putting hook iron on the track in the big hay shed. Pearl and Mrs. Dinean(?) here, also Mr & Mrs Gaches for a call. Ringling Circus in Whatcom to day. Fred's folks went.
Tue Aug 18: Conrad's work up the haying amts to $141.00 + 16 = 157. Self finished putting iron on the track & mowed & bound some oats. In the P.M. began cutting oats. Grant driving binder, self twining grain. Very warm.
Wed Aug 19: A thunder shower in the night last night and misty this A.M. Pleasant in the P.M. but too wet for harvesting. Not doing much but chores. Mrs. Osborne here this P.M.
Thu Aug 20: Cutting oats after 9 A.M. Smith, Sorenson & henry nelson shocking. Self turning grain. Fine day & the grain good.

Thu Sep 24: Ditto yesterday only more so. The situation looks desparate. There is bound to be lots of damaged or spoiled grain. All same as '91 and '77. No other years come up to it.
Fri Sep 25: Clears off some & dried the grain a little. Self finished digging potatos. Grant has done nothing this past week but hunt.
Sat Sep 26: No rain but clowdy & dull weather. Nothing drying much. Peth finished threshing this P.M. It was pretty wet but think it will keep. Moved to Kalsos at 6 P.M. Anderson quit.

Mon Oct 19: Finished threshing at Abbotts & for the season. Graham took the engine to LaC. Pleasant. Ball & Peth still threshing.
Tue Oct 20: Grant & team working on the road. Self hauled a load of lumber for dyke in the P.M. Heavy fog in the A.M. Pleasant P.M.
Wed Oct 21: Grant hauling gravel. Self hauling rock for the dyke. 3 loads. Also cleaned up around the stock & burned wet straw. No rain but clowdy. Got a letter from Ida.
Thu Oct 22: Grant hauling gravel. Self hauled a load of rock for the dyke by the grainary. Picked up the threshing wood that was left & went to town in the P.M. Clear & pleasant. Cool fogy mornings.

Fri Oct 23: Grant hauled two loads of gravel for the dyke by the grainary. Self choring & filed a saw. In the P.M. Grant & self hauled a load of brush for the dyke.
Sat Oct 24: A letter from Geo & Eva. Self choring and helped Otto fix the Kalso line fence also made a gate for it. Grant went to town.
Sun Oct 25: Still fine weather. Self & Nettie went over to Mrs Whitney's & returned at 4.30 P.M.
Mon Oct 26: Pleasant. Fred Kalso baling hay, Callahan piece. Grant not working. Self working at the hay barn wharf some.
Tue Oct 27: I am 54 today. Self working on the hay barn wharf. Grant took the washing away and helped on the wharf. Rain some last night.
Wed Oct 28: Grant & Nettie went to Whatcom. Self finished the wharf & went to LaConner in the P.M. Showery A.M. West wind in the P.M.
Thu Oct 29: Pleasant day. Doing chores & went out to Gortons(?) to see about wood for baling hay. Lee Bradley here duck hunting.
Fri Oct 30: Choring & cooking in the A.M. & went to Anacortes in the P.M. & to the Goodwin Concert in the Eve. Grant came home in the P.M.
Sat Oct 31: Came home from Anacortes and then went to LaConner to the the "Swinomish" launched. Strong south wind all day. Nettie came home from Whatcom.

Sun Nov 01: Strong south wind all day. But quite warm. Self & Nettie went to church in the eve. Wrote to Geo & Ida. Rain in the eve.
Mon Nov 02: Went up to Kalsos & posted notices for dyke election. Made a new maul. Picked some apples & pears. Misty & clowdy.
Tue Nov 03: No rain but threatening. Self hauled two loads of mill wood for baling hay.
Wed Nov 04: Went to LaConner settled with Foster for the hay & in the P.M. went & paid my Wallace note. Heavy show in the P.M.
Thu Nov 05: Rainy day. Went to Bay View & got some potatos that Dave Esary left there. Cleaned out the big tank & moved the cook stove in for the winter.
Fri Nov 06: Rainy A.M. Windy P.M. Cutting & splitting wood & putting it in the wood house. Graham brot the machine home this P.M.
Sat Nov 07: Pleasant most of the day. Fixed up the ents(?) to the machine shed and did chores. Nettie went to LaConner. Grant went to Samish.
Sun Nov 08: At home all day but went to Bay View to League in the eve. Stormy & windy.
Mon Nov 09: Stormy A.M. Frost 32° Cutting wood doing chores &c. & took the washing to Jorgensons in the A.M. In the P.M. self & Schmidt worked on the dyke putting on lumber
Tue Nov 10: Went to Amos(?) Ball's sale. John here to dinner and a machine agent. Bot a machine for Nettie. W & W. Cold Raw wind & rain in the eve.
Wed Nov 11: Cold disagreeable A.M. & some snow. Splitting wood & in the P.M., self & Kalso took the scow load of rock & brush down to the dyke.
Thu Nov 12: Got up at 4 A.M. & went down to put in rock & brush. Split wood & did the chores. Cold & stormy part of the day.

Wed Dec 02: Frost. Pleasant day. Self & Grant cleaning out the scow and put a load on the dyke. Hay dealer at Byrons and the engine played out at noon.
Thu Dec 03: Frost 30°. Pleasant. Nettie went to town. Shipped a box of ducks to the hospital. Self & Grant fixed the dyke at Byrons grainary.
Fri Dec 04: Frost 26°. Self went to town - Pleasant but cool. Sent an order to C.H. & picture to Eva & letter & check to Powels.
Sat Dec 05: Frost 30° - Str. Lake here for hay. Self, Grant & Schmidt loading it. Clowdy & a little rain in P.M. Str. LaConner after Byron's Oats. Grant went to Anacortes.
Sun Dec 06: Pearl and John here. John staid all night. Pleasant. Hake baling hay.
Mon Dec 07: Frost. Went to Mt Vernon for service on Jury. Pleasant.
Tue Dec 08: Frost. Light. No trial today. Excused till tomorrow & came home.
Wed Dec 09: Went to Mt. Vernon. Not on any case. Fine weather.

Mon Dec 14: Went to La C. & settled up with Frater for hay. Rainy. John here today all night.

Wed Dec 16: In Mt. Vernon on jury. Heavy rain.

Fri Dec 18: Came home from Mt. Vernon. Nettie & Grant went to LaConner. Pleasant. Mistake Grant hunting at Bay View.
Sat Dec 19: No rain but windy. Self sowing and splitting wood and went to the ?????. Mrs. Williamson died to day at noon from Brights disease. Got a letter from Geo. and heard that Uncle Byron was dead. A letter from Eva also.
Sun Dec 20: Rainy part of the day & warm. Self & Nettie went to Mrs. Williamson's funeral. In the eve wrote to Eva & Ida.
Mon Dec 21: Wet & misty. Filed a saw & cut wood some. Grant went home with Chris Esary last night.
Tue Dec 22: Pleasant. Went to town with John Wilson. Grant down to Esary's & Pearls and brot the cow home.
Wed Dec 23: Clear & Pleasant. Steamer "Lake" here for Byron's hay. Self tallying hay for Foster. Grant went to LaConner. Frank Wright arrived & went to LaC. also.
Thu Dec 24: Pleasant & some fogy. Self hung up the meat and began smoking it. Christmas Tree in B.V. The young folks went. Self home & wrote to Geo.
Fri Dec 25: Spent the day at home. Clide Howe here to dinner. C. Esary & E. Crumrine here in the eve. Still & foggy.

Tue Dec 29: Pleasant & warm. This has been one of the finest Decembers I ever saw. Grant came back. Self went up to Jorgenson's in the P.M.
Wed Dec 30: Another beautiful day. Choring & sawing wood. Total receipts for hay for the year 1903 $2355.00. Oats sold to date from crop 1903 $61.80. Nettie & Frank went down to Pearls and staid all night.
Thu Dec 31: Misty day & some rain in the evening. The folks went to Bay View. At home all day. Sawed wood some & read some. There endeth - the year 1903. Just heard of the terrible theater horror in Chicago where over 500 lost their lives.
