Thu Dec 20: Heavy wind all last night. Highest tide of the season & the highest I have seen in 5 years. Salted the meat & went to town for Pearl. Tide about 3 1/2 inches less than the s lake of the 1886 tide & 1895 also.
Fri Dec 21: New moon. Daisy had a calf. Strong west wind all night & another high tide this A.M. about 1 inch less than yesterday. The dyke broke by Lee's line towards Bay View. Mr McPherson here from Iowa who has not been here for 20 years. Self & Nettie went to Bob Gunther's to see about hired girl with the usual result. Pleasant in the P.M.

Thu Dec 27: Fair warm day. The Crumrine boys took another load of oats which is all this is due him(Esary). This has been as warm a December as I ever saw. There has not been a frost yet but will be some to night. Grant & Frank in Bay View to day. Grant went over to Wilson's this eve with the Williamsons. Mrs Mendenhall & Cloyd here this P.M.

Wed Feb 13: Piled out John Wilsons oats & went to the station & sent off money to Rev. Sunderland. Conrad not doing much but chores. He went to B.V. in the evening or P.M. & I got some grain for the cow. Grant sick this week.
Thu Feb 14: Conrad plowing. Self halterbreaking the colt & went for a load of lumber for tank in the P.M. Blanche White here last night and to day. Ground in good order to plow, but very few at it.

Fri Jun 28: Clowdy & cool & no rain. Conrad & self set dyke posts in the A.M. & helped drive posts 2 hours in the P.M. C. hauled one load of wood & finished the Maxwell wood 15 cords. I now have on hand about 20 cords of stove wood all told. Ida abed all day. Granny just the same.

Mon Aug 05: Took Grant & Mr McGinnis to Anacortes & then went to Whites & Franks & to LaC. to a church Convention meeting. Came home at 11 P.M. Elmer with me. [margin: Took the Darcy cow off today.] Gregory & Conrad hauled the hay to Osborns. Grant & McG. went to Seattle. Elmers bill 22.75, Smith 25.80, Sorenson $10.75.
Tue Aug 06: Conrad not doing much in the A.M. but chores. Went with Fred Kalso after the pile driver in the P.M. Took down the hay ropes & shut the barn door.
Wed Aug 07: Conrad away with Fred Kalso after the driver but had head wind & did not get it very far. Self & Nettie went to Anacortes to the Reunion. Got home at 9 P.M. Pearl & John came also.
Thu Aug 08: Conrad fixing up fence & turned out the horses in the meadow & fixed the watering trough & pumped some water. Self went to Bessners & out to look after the Samish pile driver. It drifted back to Wilsons more.
Fri Aug 09: In the forenoon Conrad & self fixing fence & in the P.M. took Ida down to Wilson's with the boat. Got back at 6 P.M. Pleasant.
Sat Aug 10: The pile driver came in last evening with the steamer "Irene". Conrad & self went & put the piles down on the beach. Pleasant weather, but dry & dusty. In the P.M. C. & self towed the piles home with the boat. Got home at 5 P.M.

Tue Oct 22: Mr Ferguson here this eve. Waikle came for a load of hay for D. & S. 12 bales 3300 and concluded 1901. Esary's oats at 3 1/2 for sack. the weight if the load sent to town would foot up 10 tons 605 lbs. Dave Esary 9 tons & 400 lbs. Frank & self stowing.
Wed Oct 23: Baling hay fine weather. 169 tons out to night. Frank stowing bales, self helping. Mr Walter came to see me.

Thu Oct 24: Finished baling hay. Had 176 3/4 tons according to the balers account. Finished at 10.30. Armund Wright went home, Frank also. Ed Crumrine hauling gravel in the A.M. & finished. In the P.M. Ed & Sorenson hauling straw. Tholstrups began baling straw in the P.M. Pleasant. Self helping on machine shed in the P.M. Lee & Warren also. Sold my hay 85 tons to Theodore Elling of Whatcom at 9.00 per ton & he paid $200.00 on it.
Fri Oct 25: Sorenson & Ed hauling straw in the A.M. & helping load steamer Denver with hay in the P.M. Self working on machine shed in the A.M. Finished loading 60 tons hay at 8 P.M. for Galbraith Boron & Co.
Sat Oct 26: Self working on the shed in the A.M. & went to Hazen's sale in the P.M. Nettie went to Whatcom. Grant went to LaC. & worked on Tholstrups straw press.
Sun Oct 27: Grant went to Pearls to hunt. 52 to day. At home all day. Rainy day.
Mon Oct 28: Working on machine shed.
Tue Oct 29: Working on machine shed. High wind all day.
Wed Oct 30: Rainy day. Not doing anything but chores.
Thu Oct 31: Cold & windy. Fired up the engine and put the machine in the shed then cleaned out the boiler.

Fri Nov 01: Picking up fruit, onions & moved the stove into the kitchen. Also took in the squashes.
Sat Nov 02: Grant & Nettie came home. Self went to LaConner & got flour, sugar, stove &c, &c. Conrad came home from hay baling. Settled up with Gaches for the Galbriath hay. Bot a can of oil & settled up with Goldsmith & Boyd. Sold Byron 100 sks Lincoln oats at $22.50.
Sun Nov 03: Rainy part of the day. Went to B.V. to church on wheel. Anna Jorgenson went home.
Mon Nov 04: Dyke work this year to date 6 days & 8 hours inclusive. [margin: Self on sluice box last year 2 days.] Conrad working again. He & self working on dyke & on the old granary foundation. Clearing it away. Chris & Warren helped drive posts about 3 hours. Warm & misty.
Tue Nov 05: C. & self working on the dyke. Setting & driving posts. Chris helping in the P.M. Strong north west wind all day.

Wed Nov 06: Elmer here this eve. Working on dyke. Self, Conrad & Chris down by the warehouse (old) putting on lumber & filling in with lumber. Nice day.
Thu Nov 07: Rainy part of the time. C., Chris & self working on dyke. finished down by the warehouse at noon & drove posts up by the Purdy warehouse in the P.M. Warren helping 3 hours. Dyke work tonight for the season 12 days 8 hours.
Fri Nov 08: Finished driving post. Fixed a musk rat hole & in the P.M. Self & C went to the Ridge & got a load of brush for the dyke. Chris & Warren helped two hours. Clean & pleasant.
Sat Nov 09: C & self hauled a load of brush in the A.M. & C. hauled a load of rock in the P.M. & worked on dyke all night. Party at Osborns to night. John & Pearl came & staid over night. Rain some.
Sun Nov 10: Hard rain last night. Steamer McD. here for hay, self & Lee. Took 14-400 lbs of my hay. Pleasant P.M. Price took his cattle out of the field. Rainy P.M.
Mon Nov 11: Self & Conrad fixing dyke side of the hay barn & musk rat hole in the A.M. In the P.M. moving baled hay in the old hay barn.
Tue Nov 12: Finished moving the baled hay and Conrad cleaned out the hen house and choring about some. Rainy & misty about all day. The Similk here for Crumrine's hay.
Wed Nov 13: Windy but no rain. Conrad hauled a load of gravel for the hay barn then hauled dirt on the dam by the hay barn. Self up to Kalso's & settle up with the pile driver. & went to town in the P.M. Got money order for M. Ward for rolers, &c.
Thu Nov 14: Warm & pleasant. Self & Conrad hauling straw on the dyke 7 loads. The straw quite wet. Cleaning up around the stack. Mr Baker here & took Corbett away to train him.
Fri Nov 15: Finished hauling straw on the dyke in the A.M. Conrad hauling dirt on the hay barn dam in the P.M. Pleasant A.M. Windy & some rain in the P.M. Self choring in the P.M.
Sat Nov 16: Self & C. went for a load of brush in the A.M. & put a load of straw on the dam in the A.M. also. Heavy rain about 10 A.M. and from 12 till one P.M. Went to Olsens sale in the P.M. C. not working.
Sun Nov 17: Conrad quit & went to Elmers. At home all day. Nettie & self went to League in the eve. No rain to speak of.
Mon Nov 18: Done chores & put wire on the dyke lagging up by Purdy's granary. Pleasant no rain.
Tue Nov 19: Warm & pleasant. Not doing very much A.M. Painted some on the southside of the house in the P.M.
Wed Nov 20: Finished fastening wire on the dyke posts. Then began painting the bedroom. McKenna & Lee here to fix up Osborne's mail carrier bond which was for $280.00 a year and four years from July next.

Thu Nov 21: Pearl & John called. Clowdy but no rain. Self choring & working on the bed room finished painting. Oats worth $20.50 to $21.00.
Fri Nov 22: Adam Carlson died. Clowdy & rainy but quite warm. Hanging paper in Grandma's bedroom & doing chores. Weyrich here to load of hay for D. & S.
Sat Nov 23: Choring & sawing wood. No rain.
Sun Nov 24: Stormy part of the day. Steamer Denver here for Kalso's hay. Self & Nettie went to church in the eve.
Mon Nov 25: Sister Nettie died. Pleasant & quite warm. Went to B.V. for the washing. & in the P.M. went over to Tates & got a pair of pigs. Pleasant. In the evening put some rock & brush in the slough to prevent washing under the dyke.
Tue Nov 26: Self choring around and fixed an eave trough up on the hay shed. Nettie went to town. Warm.
Wed Nov 27: Warm & pleasant. Painted the wagon bed, engine tanks & wheelbarrow in the P.M. Put matting down in the bedroom. Entertainment in B.V. to night. Nettie & Grant went.
Thu Nov 28: Thanksgiving Day. At home all day & had no company. Heard from Geo that Nettie was dangerously sick.
Fri Nov 29: No school. Choring & Grant hunting ducks.
Sat Nov 30: Self went to town & took the calf and paid the $400.00 machine notes. Rained all the P.M. Heard of Nettie's death today.

Sun Dec 01:[margin: Have had scarcely any frost during November.] Pleasant. A boat here for Olson's oats. He sold at $21.00. Pearl & John here to day. Nettie & Grant went to League.
Mon Dec 02: Went to B.V. in the A.M. & got washing and a sack of feed for cow. Baker here to dinner & brot Corbet home. We drove him to B.V. to the buggie. Misty & clowdy but warm.
Tue Dec 03: Windy & rainy in the P.M. Peter Swanson here & got 30 sks oats. Paid $27.00 Bal dur $8.00. Did chores & not much else.
Wed Dec 04: Hardest wind of the season last night. Went to town to day & bot a cart & a single harness. Tillinghast covering cabbage.
Thu Dec 05: Did the chores and drove Corbet. Mr Baker here in the P.M. Pleasant.
Fri Dec 06: Did the chores & went down after Grant with Corbet. Pleasant. Miss Wallace came to day, her brother brot her down.
Sat Dec 07: Cold S.E. wind all day. Not doing much but chores & sawing wood.

Thu Dec 12: Frost 20°. Clear & pleasant. Ground frozen quite hard. W.C.T.U. meeting here today. Went to the station & sent for papers, &c.
Fri Dec 13: Choring & went to Bay View with Corbet.
Sat Dec 14: Self at home & made a fence around the straw stack. Grant had the spring wagon & went to town. John & Pearl here this eve. Grant sick. John & Nettie went to B.V. to Fair & brot Grant home.
Sun Dec 15: Pleasant but cool and the tides low. John & Pearl here. Self & Nettie went to League in the eve.
Mon Dec 16: Nice weather but rather cool. John & P went to town. Grant home with cold.

Sat Dec 21: Self & Grant went to town & got the Christmas stuff, &c. Warmer & some rain. Frank & Armund Wright arrived here this A.M.

Mon Dec 23: Not doing much but chores. Got a letter from George. First in three weeks.
Tue Dec 24: Christmas tree in B.V. At home all day. Dickey got a load of hay.
Wed Dec 25: Stormy day. John & Pearl here for Christmas.
Thu Dec 26: Heaviest wind for many years last night & today. High tide this A.M. and very rough caused by west wind. It broke Polsons dyke & flooded all the land north of the Allen slough. Damaged our dyke some, but it did not break. Several break reported on the Samish. Self & Frank Wright worked on the dyke three hours in the P.M.
Fri Dec 27: Tide not so high to day. In the fore noon fixing up after the wind & down to the dyke in the P.M. Everett Wallace here yesterday & today. Nettie had a party this evening. The Whitney girls & Gene here. Sold 1100 sks oats to Geo Gaches at $25.00 per ton. Lee, Otto, Fred Stearns & Fulk sold also at same price.
Sat Dec 28: Frost Very pleasant day. Self fixing up fence after the wind.
Sun Dec 29: Went to Bay View to church. Mr Wright here to dinner & staid all night. Frost about 30.

Wed Jan 01: Warm. Self at home. Clowdy & windy. Mr Crozier here with Miss Beaver. Frank & Nettie went to town.
Thu Jan 02: Self & Grant went to Bay View & took his bed down to Redferns. Split wood some & done the chores. Clowdy & showery.
Fri Jan 03: Warm. Steamer LaConner here & took 776 sks oats. Average 102 1/2. Went to town in the P.M. to the Annual Covenant meeting. Rain hard, afternoon & eve.
Sat Jan 04: Grant sick. Self doing chores & went to town in the for Dr. for Grant.
Sun Jan 05: Grant getting worse with high fever. Self went to town for medicine in the eve.
Mon Jan 06: Got Lee to go for Dr. for Grant this morning at 4 A.M. He is no better yet.
Tue Jan 07: Dr. Appleby here again to see Grant and it turns out he has smallpox. He is very sick and ????as with fever of 104. We are now quarantined indefinitely. Weather warm with frequent rains.
Wed Jan 08: Dr. here & went for his medicine. Grant about the same. Doing nothing but chores & taking care of him.
Thu Jan 09: Grant about the same. Dr. here again. Mr Williamson came to help take care of him. [margin: Steamer Transport sunk in the bay with a loss of 1500 sks oats.]
Fri Jan 10: Grant doing pretty well but is very sore. Frost. The Clan McDonald here for hay for Elling. He got 25 1/2 tons according to Simpsons tally. Lee helped tally.
Sat Jan 11: Grant about the same. Frost. Williamson here & the Dr here. Pleasant.
Sun Jan 12: Frost about 28. Pleasant. Grant about same. Got a letter from George and answered it.
Mon Jan 13: Grant improving, is not as sore & the appetites improving. Dr. here & took some photos of him. Williamson here yet. Pleasant weather.
Tue Jan 14: Grant still improving. Pleasant.
Wed Jan 15: Frost. Dr. here again. Grant doing well. Pleasant. Fred Kalso doing quite a business with the wet oats from the "Transport".
