Thu Jan 04: Clowdy & a little rain. Road very sloppy. Self went to LaConner & got some fence nails & got Nell shod and some irons for a wagon rack.
Fri Jan 05: The highest tide of the winter this A.M. About 5 inches short of the big tide of 1895. Str May Queen here and got 23 1/2 tons hay for Mr McLean of Anacortes. Strong south wind. The steam boat folks and Lee & Jessie were here this evening. Showery.
Sat Jan 06: Still warm and the land very wet. I have 40 tons of hay & 12 hundred sks of oats to sell yet. Doing chores & splitting wood. Grant & Pearl went to Esary's to party.
Sun Jan 07: Another high tide same as Friday's tide. Showery & windy, but warm. Mercury at 54. A bright rainbow this A.M.
Mon Jan 08: Strong wind all night, but the tide not so high this A.M. Self fixing barn door, pumps, &c. Mr Jorgenson here for oats.

Wed Jan 10: Pleasant. Self went to LaConner & got a new mattress & a box of crackers.
Thu Jan 11: Doing chores and making over a wagon bed. Ida moved downstairs.

Sat Feb 10: Still clowdy & showery. Grant & self fixing fence out by Purdy's granary and fixed up the hay barn wharf. Conrad working at the harness. Social for selling baskets this eve. Grant & Pearl went. Stormy night.

Mon Feb 12: Conrad & self splitting & hauling ditch timber from across the road to the field north of the house. Ida sick again. She weighed 86 1/2 today.

Sun Mar 18: Pleasant, but looks like rain. Self went to LaConner to Church and in the P.M. to Mr Cousier's funeral at Pleasant Ridge. Took dinner with Mr Francis folks.
Mon Mar 19: Conrad plowing & scraping in slough & filling ditches with self & "Charley". Clowdy but no rain to speak of. Self went to B.V. with Mr. Ferguson.
Tue Mar 20: Conrad scraping in sloughs. Self tinkering & fixed up a team for Grant to plow with. He began in the field by the house. Land in fine order. Old Mrs Fulk died last night.
Wed Mar 21: Clowdy & began to rain at 4 P.M. Conrad & Grant plowing 3/4 self went to Mrs Fulk's funeral & got home at 2 P.M.

Tue Apr 03: Rainy some in the A.M. C & self plowed dead furrow with 2 horses some. In the P.M. C. & G. plowing. C. began across the road about 4.30 P.M. Self struck out the new lands with Grant's team. Folks went to B.V. to a lecture on ??????. [margin: Self cutting thistles 1/4]

Sat Apr 07: Rain more last night. Cold & windy to day. C. working at the hay barn floor some. I plowed in the P.M. Land too wet to plow. Self & Nettie went to LaConner in the A.M. Grant took Grandma over to Franks in the P.M. & they all went to B.V. In the evening. This is going to be a late spring as regards getting in crops but grass & fruit trees are two weeks in advance of last season.

Fri Apr 27: C. seeding. Self seeding 2 hours & broke Olsen's seeder. Went to town & bot a new one. Grant harrowing 1/2. Mr Bow died this A.M. at 2 oclock. Land very dry. Hard & rough. The new seeder came at 4 P.M. & I used it till night. It works all right. Have about 36 acres sowed tonight. The new seeder cost $50.00.
Sat Apr 28: Another dry windy day. C. seeding 1/2 self all day. About 55 acres seeded. Finished across the road. C. disk P.M.
Sun Apr 29: Pleasant. Strong N. wind. In the P.M. went to the funeral. Large attendance. Everett Wallace here.
Mon Apr 30: Self seeding 1/2 finished the Purdy granary piece sowed 16 sacks on it. 8 acres. Grant harrowing in the P.M. C. disk.

Sun Jun 03: Went to church at B.V. & in the P.M. went to Ridgeway but there was no preaching. Clowdy & light rain in the eve. Wm Johnson died to day at 1 oclock.
Mon Jun 04: Perry not working in the A.M. Rainy most of the day. In the P.M. we moved the stove over to the old house & mended & bunched up the sacks.
Tue Jun 05: Perry & Grant hauling bark. Self choring in the A.M. & went to Mr Johnsons funeral in the P.M. at Pleasant Ridge. Warm day & good growing weather. The piece of oats by the hay barn is very weedy and don't look as if it could make more than 15 or 18 sks per acre.
Wed Jun 06: Perry & Grant hauling bark. Self cleaning up the old wagon & painting it some & made a new wagon jack.
Thu Jun 07: Perry & team hauling gravel on the road. Self helping dump gravel. Raining some in the P.M. Pearl went to LaConner to take Grandma.
Fri Jun 08: Perry & team hauling gravel. Self on the road dumping gravel, pleasant this eve.

Mon Jun 18: In the A.M. Perry & self went to the Ridge to get a piece of fir for hammer to post driver. In the P.M. we put roof on the boathouse. Self went to town & got Charley shod & settled up with Gaches & bargained for sacks 4800 at 6.75 per hundred.
Tue Jun 19: Finished the boat house & picked strawberries. Clowdy & showery. Quite a hard rain last night.
Wed Jun 20: Rainy day. More rain fell today than on any day this month. Perry took Grant & Nettie to Mt. Vernon on their way to Seattle. Grandma not very well & gave up going.
Thu Jun 21: Perry not working. Setting traps. Self cutting thistles & choring.
Fri Jun 22: Pleasant. Perry helping Lee set cabbage plants. Self cutting thistles & picking berries. Picked 14 quarts Red Raspberries. The earliest on record.

Sun Jun 24: Oats looking much better than a week ago. Are a good color & growing fast. Self & Pearl went to B.V. to church. Shower in the evening.
Mon Jun 25: Self helped Warren rig up to plow cabbage patch & picked berries. 10 qts Raspberries. Got 25 lbs cherries of Ava Bodgely.

Sun Jul 01: Still clowdy. Went to Church in the A.M. at B.V. Perry and his friend from Nome here to supper.
Mon Jul 02: Oiled the wagon wheels & picked some berries. Heard that Maud Barr died in Seattle also heard from the Wrights at Dawson. Pleasant day and looks like hay weather.
Tue Jul 03: Warm, but clowdy towards night. Went to Maud Barr's funeral. Mr McEvers from LaConner preached the sermon. Very sad funeral.
Wed Jul 04: Went to Anacortes on the cars. Grant also. Pearl went to Everett. Weather bad & rained all the A.M. Got home at 7.30. Celebration N.Y.
Thu Jul 05: Perry here again. Hauled wood and worked in the garden. Pleasant, but clowdy some. Not good hay weather. Hay damaging badly in the bottom.
Fri Jul 06: Still clowdy & damp. Perry hauling gravel. Self choring & went to LaConner in the P.M. Pleasant P.M.

Tue Jul 24: Hauling hay. 36 loads. Crew same as yesterday. Clowdy, but no rain. Esary hauled 9 loads hay. Olsen 2 loads.
Wed Jul 25: Hauling hay. Crew same with Earnest Osborne added. Got in 35 loads in the old barn. Weather clowdy & warm.
Thu Jul 26: Hauling hay. Crew same as yesterday. Light rain in the A.M. but kept on hauling. 140 loads to date. [margin: Finished old barn 67 loads. 72 new shed to night.]

Mon Jul 30: Elmer came down & got his team & oiled his wagon tires. Conrad & perry hauling hay to Osborn & Pavet. 6 loads. Self went to town & ordered the wire at 14¢ & sold the white cow for $44.80.
Tue Jul 31: C. & Perry hauling hay. Two loads to Osborns making 6 & two to Creighton & two loads to my barn. Self went to B.V. & sprayed cabbage 1 3/4 days. Weather looks like rain.

Wed Aug 01: Conrad wages in haying $28.25. Hauled in one load & pitched off 3 in the new shed making 91 in it. Began to rain at 9 A.M. & was showery the balance of the day. Perry & Conrad worked 1/4 only. Have only one load of hay out.
Thu Aug 02: Perry went to LaConner for a load of lumber for dyke. Self not doing very much. Went to B.V. & took a tank down to Lu's well for watering stock. Pleasant most of the day. Quite a good deal of grains went down with the rain.

Sun Aug 05: Began cutting oats last year Aug 26th. At home all day.

Fri Sep 07: Threshing teams same as yesterday. Perry not working in the P.M. Sick. Got out 1032 or 2028 in the barn. Grain in the 17 acre field very tough & green. Was offered 21.50 for the oats by Gaches.
Sat Sep 08: Finished at noon. 2389 sks of 100 each. Teams same as yesterday. Smith driving and was at Lee's in the P.M. Looks like rain. Got 175 sks of Lee. Mrs Whitney went home on the train. Hazen baling straw. Strong S. wind & threatening rain.

Wed Sep 12: Fine weather still continues. Olsen threshing. My 2 teams helping. Self lame with rheumatism & not doing much. Perry came back this eve. Still sick. Settled up his acct. He worked 25 1/2 days at 1.00, 17 haying, 12 1/2 in Aug at 1.25 & 9 1/2 harvesting, 5 1/2 threshing making $98.05 cts. Good weather still with us but the barometer falling.
Thu Sep 13: Threshing at Olsen's. Self about crippled with rheumatism. Olsen finished at 4 P.M. 1945 sks. Lee was offered 22.00 for oats to day. Sprinkled a little but no rain to stop threshing.
Fri Sep 14: Mr Smith here hauling in the screenings. Self went with Lee to see Woodburns machine & the hay press. No rain but clowdy. Took dinner in Edison.
Sat Sep 15: Have no help at present. Not doing much but chores. Rain some in the P.M. A steamer here to get Hazen's straw. Oats still work $22.00 per ton & no more.

Thu Oct 25: Conrad hauling manure & wood. Rain in the P.M. Self splitting & sawing wood. Lee's folks up in the eve.
Fri Oct 26: Self, Lee, Conrad & Chris driving posts for hay barn wharf and some for the dyke. In the P.M. Chris & Conrad hauling straw on the dyke. Self fixing the wharf. Pleasant. Grant staid out of school to hunt.
Sat Oct 27: Tom Esary got 2.5 tons hay. Am 51 today. Choring around and fixing up the post driver for winter. Chris & Conrad working on the straw for dyke by Purdy's granary. A birthday party here this eve. [margin: Windy.]
Sun Oct 28: Windy and a hard rain towards eve. Elmer, Miss Carter and Chet(?) Marshall here this P.M.
Mon Oct 29: Conrad & self took a scow load of mud out of the boathouse. Then to load the scow down to Lee's dd warehouse. Conrad hauling straw on dyke in the P.M. self up to Kalsos in the P.M. & got some scow poles.
Tue Oct 30: Stormy day. Conrad worked some on the boat ditch & helped me fix braces in the hay baling shed. In the P.M. worked on the dyke loading scow, &c. Self went to Bay View with Grant and in the P.M. went to LaConner with Nettie.
Wed Oct 31: In the A.M. self & Conrad unloaded the scow. He went to help Axel in the P.M. Self putting braces under the hay shed. & went to Republican Rally in the eve at BayView. Rainy.
November 1900
Thu Nov 01: Self & Christ Polson put another scow load of dirt on the dyke by the old ware house. In the P.M. making rigging to hang the boat up with. Rainy P.M. & eve. Conrad at Axels.
Fri Nov 02: Finished the boat rigging. Conrad at Axels. No rain.
Sat Nov 03: The black heifer had a calf. Conrad & self dug the vegetables in the A.M. & plowed the garden. In the P.M. both went to LaConner to Chushman's speech. Pleasant & cool.
Sun Nov 04: Frost clear & pleasant. About 30°. Self & Nettie went to church. Mrs Whitney's folks here this P.M.
Mon Nov 05: Frost. Clear & pleasant. Conrad began plowing. Tried Queen but had to give her up. She kicked worse than ever.
Tue Nov 06: President Election. Conrad plowing. Self on the election board at B. View. Very pleasant day.
Wed Nov 07: Got home this A.M. at 2.30. Everything indicates Publican victory. Conrad plowing. Fine weather. [margin: Nettie went to town on wheel.]
Thu Nov 08: Conrad plowing with Queen & Corbet & Prince. Self choring. Hailed some posts & lumber for stack fence. Fine weather. Gov Rodgers re-elected. But everything else Republican.
Fri Nov 09: White heifer had a calf. Self went down & got it in Lee's field. Conrad plowing. In the P.M. making fence panels for stack fence. Beautiful weather. Wet frosty nights.

Sat Nov 10: Conrad plowing. Self working at the fence panels & in the P.M. went to Avon to see about hired girl with the usual result. John Miller died in California last week and is to brot home to night.
Sun Nov 11: Went to church at B.V. & went down to Millers to go to the funeral but he did not get there in time. Pleasant day. Went on bicycle & the road are good.
Mon Nov 12: Conrad plowing. Weather still fine. Self went to Bay & visited with Wordhazen this P.M. Hay 14.00 per ton now.
Tue Nov 13: Conrad plowing. Self finished up the stock fence and went to town.
Wed Nov 14: Self choring & cutting wood. Conrad plowing. Burger here talking pianos. Foggy most of the day but no rain.
Thu Nov 15: Conrad plowing. Self & Lee put a scow load of dirt on the dyke in the A.M.
Fri Nov 16: Conrad plowing in the A.M. Rain in the P.M. Self working at the shop some.
Sat Nov 17: Snow this A.M. 2 inches deep. Conrad went to Axels. Self making a sled & seat for Nettie. Knee sore & stiff.
Sun Nov 18: Colrd & disagreeable. Some snow yet. All staid at home.
Mon Nov 19: Mercury at 24° this A.M. Conrad & Grant working at the cabbage. Williamson & women also. Some more snow this A.M. on leds? fair? to be colder tomorrow. Wrote to George. My knee is pretty sore!
Tue Nov 20: Mercury at 14°. Coldest I ever knew it at this date of the month. Clear with good indications for it to last. Conrad & Williamson covering cabbage. Nothing done to Lee's cabbage yet. From one to two inches of snow left on the ground yet.
Wed Nov 21: Mercury at 14° again. Williamson & Conrad at the cabbage. John Oldenburg helping them.
Thu Nov 22: Growing some warmer. Conrad doing chores & went to town with Pearl. Dr. Appleby here to see my knee. Lee here to get a dyke warrant(?).
Fri Nov 23: Some warmer. Conrad choring & splitting wood. Mr Williamson & Tillinghast here this P.M. for a short time. Self improving. Finished reading "Richard Carvel." Rainy some. Nettie went to Fredonia.
Sat Nov 24: Stormy most of the day. Conrad splitting wood. Exhibition in Bay View of the school. Blanche & Margarite came here to stay all night.
Sun Nov 25: Rather pleasant. No rain. Frank White here. Steamer Denver here to Kalso's hay. Mr Negley came in for a while.
Mon Nov 26: Pleasant day. Conrad helping load Byrons hay on the steamer LaConner. Burger & Prof David came with the piano & gave it a good trial. Bradley's folks here in the eve. [margin: Pearl & Miss Williamson went to town.]

Wed Nov 28: Rainy again. C. not working. Settled up with Conrad to date. Paid him up. Warm & no rain.
Thu Nov 29: Warm south wind but no rain. Mr Noordlinger(?) & Clyde Howe here to dinner. Chris esary here also. Esary's Mill burned up last night. Grant went home with Chris.
Fri Nov 30: Clowdy with a little rain. Self doing chores & not much else. Nettie went to Fredonia.

Sat Dec 01: Pleasant day & no rain. Self done the chores & went to town with the calf. Got a sack of sugar. The Whitney folks here this P.M. & evening. Rain in the eve.
Sun Dec 02: Warm & wet. At home all day. Grant & the girls went to church in the eve.
Mon Dec 03: Warm & wet. Doing chores & not much else.
Tue Dec 04: Warm & wet. River up some. The girls went to town. Wrote to George.
Wed Dec 05: Rainy day. Elmer & Mrs Carter here this P.M. She tried the piano & said it was all right. Grant & the girls went to the League basket social this eve.
Thu Dec 06: Pleasant this A.M., but foggy P.M. Did the chores & read the Ministries Mooring. Heard that Arthur Leighton died Nov 28th.
Fri Dec 07: Pleasant to warm for the season. Self went to town. Mr Ferguson's folks here to dinner.
Sat Dec 08: Pleasant day. Clear with signs of frost. Self done the chores. Went down & fixed up the plow for winter. Washed & oiled the single harness.
Sun Dec 09: Pleasant & clear & some cooler. Self & Nettie went to church at Bay View. A.J. Stacey & family here to dinner.
Mon Dec 10: Foggy & cool. Self choring cleaned out the tank. Burger & David here this eve & I settled up for the piano.
Tue Dec 11:[margin: Frost.] Pleasant but rather cool. Nettie & self went to LaConner. Waggles gone all day since Sunday. Alf Stacey paid his interest to Jan 12, 1901.
Wed Dec 12: Stormy. The black cow had a calf. Went to the station to get money orders.
Thu Dec 13: Windy & showery. Perry Summers here to dinner. Nettie went to Fredonia. Waggles came home last night. Some what worse for his trip.
Fri Dec 14: Rainy most of the day, but quite warm. Self doing chores & not much else. Went down to fix a sluice box this evening and was at Lee's a while. Perry Summers here.
Sat Dec 15: Stormy & windy. Perry Summers here to get a team to move his things to the station. Fair in Bay View this eve. Grant & the girls went.

Tue Dec 18: Rain part of the day. Lee & Stearns killing the pigs. Nettie & self went to town in the P.M.
Wed Dec 19: Took Pearl to the station & did he chores then cut up the pigs. Windy & rainy.
Thu Dec 20: Heavy wind all last night. Highest tide of the season & the highest I have seen in 5 years. Salted the meat & went to town for Pearl. Tide about 3 1/2 inches less than the s lake of the 1886 tide & 1895 also.
Fri Dec 21: New moon. Daisy had a calf. Strong west wind all night & another high tide this A.M. about 1 inch less than yesterday. The dyke broke by Lee's line towards Bay View. Mr McPherson here from Iowa who has not been here for 20 years. Self & Nettie went to Bob Gunther's to see about hired girl with the usual result. Pleasant in the P.M.
Sat Dec 22: Calm & still this A.M. & the tide much lower. Grant hunting ducks. Redfin(?) boy here.
Sun Dec 23: Pleasant most of the day. Self & Nettie went to church. Conrad here this P.M.
Mon Dec 24: John W. & Frank Wright here. Grant went to town & all went to Christmas tree except the old folks. Pleasant & warm. Pearl went to town.
Tue Dec 25:[margin: Tide medium.] Christmas. Rather a dull Christmas. Clowdy & stormy last night. John Wilson & Frank Wright here. Turned Daisys calf out with her. She does not give milk enough to pay to milk her.
Wed Dec 26: Pleasant day & warm. Frank W. & Nettie went to town this P.M. Self choring & reading. Miss Knox arrived last night at 8 P.M. The Crumrine boys took a load of oats to LaC. for Esary. Took 40 sks.
Thu Dec 27: Fair warm day. The Crumrine boys took another load of oats which is all this is due him(Esary). This has been as warm a December as I ever saw. There has not been a frost yet but will be some to night. Grant & Frank in Bay View to day. Grant went over to Wilson's this eve with the Williamsons. Mrs Mendenhall & Cloyd here this P.M.
Fri Dec 28: Pleasant most of the day, but rain in the eve. Party at Bradley's this eve. Pearl & Miss Knox went to town.
Sat Dec 29: Light frost. Pleasant & clear. Knee getting sore again. Arthur W. here this eve. Went to B. View this P.M. & signed R.O. Welts Insurance bond for $5000.00.
Sun Dec 30: Frost 26deg; Clear & pleasant. Frank Wright & Miss Knox here yet & John W. also. Will Woodburn & his girls also.
Mon Dec 31:[margin: Frost 22°.] Clear & cool. Self went to town. Rheumatism getting bad again. John & Pearl went to Seattle. A party at Esary's home. Grant, Nettie & Frank went.
