Tue Jan 04: Light rain today. Elmer went for the other load of bark. Self went to town this P.M. to get a money order for Eva Reed. Roads rough & bad. George Stump here yesterday & today for seed oats. Sold him 100 sks at the price I got for the balance and he pays 28.00 on them now.

Wed Jan 12: Mr Glover died this A.M. up at Pavitt's. Tom Lockhart sick. Elmer & self working on the Kalso fence in the A.M. Finished about 2.30 & began repairing the corner fence. The Kalso piece has cost about $10.00. Mr & Mrs Paulson & Mr & Mrs Gaches here calling to day. Oat worth about $17.50 to $18.00 per ton now.
Thu Jan 13: Ida worse to day. Elmer went for Dr. Farnam and to Edison in the P.M. to take him home. Mr. Glover buried today.
Fri Jan 14: Elmer went to Edison again to get the Dr. but did not get him. Rainy some.
Sat Jan 15: Elmer fixing the fence & hauling old rails. Self went to town & sold Gaches 100 sks seed oats at 20. & 100 to Wilson last night. Pleasant day.

Mon Jan 17: Elmer & self fixing the John Ball dyke by trimming sod off the ditch bank & putting it on the dyke.

Tue Sep 20: The 23 acre piece had 595 sks. Clowdy & windy A.M. Threshed in the P.M. Windy & threatened rain but we moved & threshed 589 sks. 932 all together. Borrowed $9.70 of Elmer.
Wed Sep 21: Stormy night & this A.M. light rain. went to threshing at 7.30 broke down at 10 & started at 11.20 again. Strong wind and showery all day but we kept at it all day or until 4 P.M. & finished 1698 sks besides screenings. the men at Lee's 1 1/2 hours.
Thu Sep 22: An inch of rain fell last night. No threshing to day. Elmer & self went to LaConner. Soderstram went to Skagit River.

Sat Oct 29: Baling hay. Elmer helping. 1/2 Grant helping me take in bales in the P.M. Have about 154 tons out and about 32 out of the new shed. Pearl went to LaConner this P.M.
Sun Oct 30: Stormy most of the day. Did not go to church.
Mon Oct 31: Baling hay. Elmer & self stowing bales. Baled about 22 tons making in all about 170 tons.
November 1898
Tue Nov 01: Baling hay. Rainy & windy. Elmer helping store bales. Strong west wind all the P.M. Pearl went to town. About 195 tons done to night. Dave Esary's hay bill $70.50 (T. Esary's bill $101.25 paid to day.)
Wed Nov 02: Baling. Elmer helping 22 tons about 118 tons baled now. The press broke down at 5 P.M. Strong south west wind all day.
Thu Nov 03: Baling hay. Six tons. Got through at 11 A.M. Elmer went to John Wallace's in the P.M. 225 tons 820. 1894 bales. McMillan got 2910 lbs hay the first time and 1485 total 4895 = $17.13 for which he has paid $10.00.
Fri Nov 04: Another windy day. Armstrongs big barn blew down Wed night and is a total wreck. Worked on the hay barn truck gang way in the A.M. & went to town in the P.M.
Sat Nov 05: Self working on the hay barn gang way. No rain today. Lee baling.
Sun Nov 06: Rainy day. Did not go anywhere.
Mon Nov 07: Pleasant day. Self went to Anacortes on wheel. The road quite muddy for wheeling.
Tue Nov 08: Election day. Self on the board. Bay View pop 30 to 56. But all reports indicate that the county & state are republican.
Wed Nov 09: Self got home from election at 4.30 A.M. Stormy most of the day. The girls went to LaConner. Self & Lee moved the stove in the kitchen in the P.M.
Thu Nov 10: Self sharpening dyke posts in the A.M. & went to LaConner in the P.M. State & county all Rep. Pearl & Grandma went to Woodburns.
Fri Nov 11: Self hauling dyke posts & moved the scow & river up to John Ball dam. Byron hauling hay in my barn.
Sat Nov 12: In the A.M. went to the statio & got the matting and put in down in Grandma's room. In the P.M. made kraut. Pearl & Grant went to Anacortes to bring Ida home.
Sun Nov 13: Ida came home on the train & I went after her. She seems pretty well after the trip. [margin: Fine weather.]
Mon Nov 14: Lee & self & H Alexander driving post for dyke. Pearl went to town. Pleasant day.
Tue Nov 15: Drove posts 2 hours. Choring some & made another keg of kraut. Mr & Mrs Daniel here to dinner. Lillie had a heifer calf. [margin: Pleasant most of the day.]
Wed Nov 16: Rainy day. Not doing much but chores.
Thu Nov 17: Clowdy most of the day. Went down & drove posts with Lee & Grant 3 hours. In the P.M. fixing up fence out by the straw stack. Pearl went to town & took Grandma up to Martha Scotts. Osborn took his mare & colt out of the field. Ground getting quite wet. Rain last night.
Fri Nov 18: Did the chores, filed a saw, went to Bay View. Rain last night.
Sat Nov 19: Done the chores, cut wood & went to town. Got some middlings for the cow. Herbert took the kraut to Mrs Whitney.
Sun Nov 20: About 2 inches of snow this A.M. Self & Nettie went to Bay V to church.
Mon Nov 21: Windy all day. Self done the chores & worked on Grant's boat.
Tue Nov 22: Rainy. Choring & working on the boat.
Wed Nov 23: Rainy. Choring & working on the boat. Grant & Pearl went to town. Finished the boat all but paint.
Thu Nov 24: Pleasant most of the day. Painted the boat & done the chores.
Fri Nov 25: Self & Sorenson working on the dyke in the A.M. & in the P.M. went to the timber for dyke posts.
Sat Nov 26: Rainy this A.M. Painted the boat again & in the P.M. went after another load of posts. Sorenson helping.
Sun Nov 27: Rain again last night. Nettie & self went to church. Alf & kids here & Grandma came home.
Mon Nov 28: Self & Sorenson made & hauled out a load of posts & hauling two loads of straw for dyke.
Tue Nov 29: Rainy day. Finished Grant's boat & done the chores.
Wed Nov 30: Rainy day. Choring & making Elmer's water trough.

Thu Dec 01: S.W. wind all day. The highest tide so far this season. Self & Nettie went to town. A.J. Stacey paid me $50.25 to apply on Eva Reed's mortgage.
Fri Dec 02: Self choring & in the P.M. sharpened posts. 3 1/2 hours on the dyke. Pleasant day & low tides.
Sat Dec 03: Sharpening dyke posts & setting post some in the P.M. Rainy.
Sun Dec 04: Pleasant. At home all day. Alf Stacey here this P.M.
Mon Dec 05: Went to town. Got a sack sugar. Miss Johnson came. [margin: Frosty.]
Tue Dec 06: Went to town to get the stove fixed. Nettie went too. Elmer here this eve.
Wed Dec 07: Setting up the stove & helped drive posts & work on the dyke. Elmer covering cabbage. [margin: Frosty.]
Thu Dec 08: Went to the station & sent for Lee's Roerio Horn. Raised up the door to the old barn in the eve. Our papers, &c by Mendenhall also the F&F x W.H.G. [margin: Frost]
Fri Dec 09: Elmer went home the A.M. Finished his cabbage yesterday. Self choring & in the P.M. put dirt on the dam by the hay barn with old Nell & the sled. Social in B.V. to night. [margin: Frost 32°]
Sat Dec 10: Pleasant & clear. Choring & in the P.M. went to the hay barn dam & hauled dirt - three hours. The girls went to town. [margin: Frost 23°]
Sun Dec 11: At home all day. Clear & pleasant. Went to church in the eve. Miss Blood spoke for the children society. [margin: Frost 22°]
Mon Dec 12: Clear & pleasant. Lee & self killed a pig a piece. [margin: Frost 26°]
Tue Dec 13: Self put posts under the hay shed & then went to town clowdy. Got an order for Pearl's ticket. Mr & Mrs Daniel was here. [margin: 23°]
Wed Dec 14: Warmer. Started for Seattle with Pearl via Mt. Vernon. Staid all night with the McGinnises. [margin: Little rain.]
4Thu Dec 15: Was in Seattle all day. Pearl started east at 4 P.M. Went to Mr Palmers for tea and staid at the Dillers all night.
Fri Dec 16: Came home on the Gt. Northern via Burlington & walked home. [margin: Rain A.M.]
Sat Dec 17: In the A.M. cut up & salted the pig & in the P.M. Grant & self went to town.
Sun Dec 18: Staid at home all day. Clowdy & windy.
Mon Dec 19: Doing chores & fixed the walk by the old house.
Tue Dec 20: Done the chores & went down to help move the scow & drive posts 2 1/2 hours. [margin: Warm.]
Wed Dec 21: Went to Bay view in the P.M. with Nettie. Not doing much but chores.
Thu Dec 22: Went to LaConner. Clear & pleasant.
Fri Dec 23: Cutting & splitting wood & went down to drive a few posts by Lee's warehouse. [margin: Frost.]
Sat Dec 24: Warm & pleasant. Christmas tree in B.V. tonight. Elmer here & the young folks went to the tree.
Sun Dec 25: Very quiet Christmas. Elmer here to dinner. Ida sat at the table today for dinner for the first time in 16 months. [margin: Warm.]
4Mon Dec 26: Done the chores & finished Elmer's trough. Put the horses up for the first time tonight. Heard from Geo & Nettie that Pearl got through all right.
Tue Dec 27: Still warm & springy. Nettie start for Fairhaven this A.M.
Wed Dec 28: Doing chores and not much else. Ida poorly to day.
Thu Dec 29: Stormy day. Elmer here with some lumber for a pump.
Fri Dec 30: Made a pump for Elmer & done the chores.
Sat Dec 31: Snowing most of the day. Done the chores.
Sun Jan 01: Snow all night & some to day. The steamer LaConner here for Ball's & Massey's hay.
Mon Jan 02: Snow again most all night. About 10 inches now deep. Arlie & Edna Whitney here today most of the day.
Tue Jan 03: Clear & cold all day. Good sleighing. Self not using it any. Elmer down after his sled. [margin: Mercury 13°]
Wed Jan 04: Clear & cold. Lee took the Whitney girls to Anacortes. Fine sleighing. [margin: Mercury at 10°]
4Thu Jan 05: Nettie came home this A.M. via Anacortes. Self went to town with the bobsled in the P.M. Rec'd a letter from Pearl. [margin: Mer at 26.]
Fri Jan 06: Choring & not much else. Slaying good as ever. [margin: 26°: cold.]
Sat Jan 07: At home all day -- Frank Whites folks here in the P.M. & all night. Warmer at night. [margin: Cold 23°]
