E.A. went east by himself. He left on November 19, 1894 and returned home on January 28, 1895. He surprised his family in LaPlume according to newspaper clipping on November 28, 1894. It appears that diary entries during this time were written by Nettie and/or Ida. There are no E.A. records of this trip.

Tue Jan 16: Squally & windy but not so but what we could work. Ditching in the Whitney field. In the P.M. Will hauled d. timber, one load from Tholstrups. 4 cords to date.
Wed Jan 17: Another stormy day but we kept hauling lumber from Fredonia. 3800 ft for box in John Balls field. Middling high tide. Grant shot a duck. Lumber came to $26.60. It will take 6680 lbs hay to pay for it.
Thu Jan 18: Began on the John Ball ditch. Will, Olsen & self working at it. Got it about 1/2 dug. Cold drying south wind all day. Lee went to town and got me some spikes 50 lbs.
Fri Jan 19: Working on ditch. Stormy part of the day. Oleson helping 1/2 self & Will 3/4. Have about 11 rods of box in. Grandma went to Anacortes.

Sat Jan 27: Rain last night and this A.M. & was misty most all day. Ditching. Shut up the bull calf to fatten. Tholstrup got 500 lbs oats & 700 of hay- not paid forget. Have 233 rods of ditch timbers in & the John Ball ditch 30.
Sun Jan 28: Clowdy and misty day. Went down to the new box and found it working well and the water nearly out of the lake.
Mon Jan 29: Rain all last night & half of the day. Ground covered with water. Will washing & fixing up harness. Self fixing up the parlor stove & went to the station. Wrote to Geo. & rec'd a letter from him.

Sun Feb 04: At home all day. Terrible windy day.
Mon Feb 05: Will hauling ditch timber. Self went to town. Pleasant day. Young got a load of hay 1280. Looks some like spring.
Tue Feb 06: Showery day, but we worked most of the day. Put 22 sks screenings in the oats bin. Hauled out a load of ditch timber & in the P.M. worked in the garden ditch and some in the Whitney field. D. Esary took a load of hay.
Wed Feb 07: Another stormy day, some rain most of the A.M. Ditching in the P.M. Will & self both in the orchard. Self up to Kalsos in the A.M. The Esarys owe me $14.20, Tom $3.49, David $10.81 to date after deducting shakes 24.50.
Thu Feb 08: Stormy last night & this A.M. 1/2 in. snow. Self & Will down in the "80" cleaning out dyke ditch & started a new ditch for the lake. Land pretty wet.
Fri Feb 09: 1/2 inch of snow this A.M. but a pleasant day. Will & self ditching. Nettie started for Anacortes. Have 20 rods of the new ditch finished ready for timber. Sullivan just sold 555 bales hay.

Thu Feb 15: I offered Zerwekh my oats at $18. & hay at $7. He did not take me up. Strong A.M. cold rain & snow. Loaded up a load of hay for Pierce and took it to town in the P.M. & found Butter Cup had her calf this A.M. "Jenny Lind".
Fri Feb 16: Will took a load of hay to Gaches in the A.M. Self fixing a calf pen & the hay barn doors. Snow & rain in the P.M. Very disagreeable weather. No chance for plowing this month.

Sun May 27: Pleasant. Went to church at Bay View. Rev Malloy preached. Was up to Fredonia in the P.M. Saw lots of water. The R.R. flooded.
Mon May 28: Skagit River higher than ever. Over all the land from Indian Slough south as far as we can see. Will & self up to Ball's helping on his Fredonia dyke. Stopped the water.
Tue May 29: Jenne's dam went out. River no higher. Self up to Balls & Fredonia in the A.M. Will planting potatoes for himself. Self planting garden in the P.M.

Sun Jun 10: Self & the girls went to B.V. to church. Pickles preached. Good growing weather but rather cool.
Mon Jun 11: Showers last night. Will hauling rock & gravel for gate and went to Wilsons in the P.M. to work on dam. Self choring & went to school meeting & Walter's.
Tue Jun 12: Will helping Lee fix road in the A.M. and hauling brush for Jenne's dam in the P.M. Self up to the dam. He has about 30 min at it. Grain looking well, hay also. Light shower this A.M. Interest on G.S. $300. note amts to $7.65 to June 15th.
Wed Jun 13: Will hauling wood for him self in the A.M. & helping Jenne on dam in the P.M. Self at Jenne's in P.M.& choring in the A.M. & planting some peas.

Thu Sep 27: Rain again last night but dried off at 9.30 Threshed 800 sks. Smith helping in the warehouse. Walter hauling sks.
Fri Sep 28: Rain this A.M. but wind dried it off so we threshed after dinner and finished at 3.30 & the machine went to Byrons. Smith & Sorenson 1/2.
Sat Sep 29: The machine at Byron's & Kalso's and moved to Lee's at night. Will & Sorenson with the machine. Clowdy & low bar. Self went to town. Every body complaining of short crops.
Sun Sep 30: Damp day but Lee kept on threshing and finished. He had a little over 2000 sks. At home all day.

Mon Oct 01: Too damp for threshing. The machine went to Jenne's. Will & self hauling straw and grading slough in the lower field "80". Walter lost a cow by hoven in my field.
Tue Oct 02: Will went to Jennes to thresh but could not. Self went to Kalso & made out dyke orders. In the P.M. fanned oats or screenings to get grass seed.
Wed Oct 03: Rain nearly all night and dito all day. Discouraging for those who have grain out. Not doing much but fanning screenings. Will went to town in the P.M. and took Ida & Grant and got the baling wire.

Mon Oct 08: Killed Coxey, he weight 250 lbs. Lee helped. Began baling hay, about 16 tons. Hay in fine order but weighs light. Rained some last night but was a nice day to day. Kate threshing this P.M.

Wed Oct 10: Baling. Finished the new barn. Kate finished threshing.
Thu Oct 11: Baling broke down & last 1H 45M. Self cleaning out ditch and made box for the ditch by the John Ball sluice box. Self went to town with Maud in the P.M. Pleasant day. Miller sold his oats 200 tons at $15.75.

Sat Oct 13: Baling. Finished at 10 A.M. 103,400 lbs. Ida & Grant went to LaC. in the P.M. to get pictures taken. Will & self hauling straw in the P.M. Rained at 5 P.M. Still owe Sorenson $4.75. Paid 12 dollars.
Sun Oct 14: At home all day. Mist part of the day. Ida & Grant came home.
Mon Oct 15: Will & self hailing straw all day. Have in 12 loads all told, 5 in the hay barn.
Tue Oct 16: Hauling manure in the Orchard. Self went to town to a political meeting this eve. & took Ida & Grant up. Doolittle did not come. Very strong north wind all day.
Wed Oct 17: Hauling manure. Plowed the orchard and was scraping away the corner of the ditch bank out by the John Ball line dyke. Beautiful day & ground getting pretty dry. Rec'd a $300 dft last night from Geo for which I am to pay 6% from Oct 10 until paid.
Thu Oct 18: Working down by the John Ball line in the A.M. grading ditch bank. Not doing much in the P.M. Will & Tina went to town. [margin: Sent Geo Sisson a note for $300 dated Oct 10, 1894 with interest at 6%]
Fri Oct 19: Will & self & team working on dyke at Cultis dam 3/4 with team. Some rain in the P.M. The folks went to Odd Fellows social in the eve.

Sun Oct 21: Rainy day at home all day. Ida & Grant at home.
Mon Oct 22: Will at Callahan's baling hay. Self to Bay View and LaConner to get the folks.
Tue Oct 23: Went to B.V. this eve to Republican meeting. Will baling hay. Self not doing much. Stormy in the A.M. Joe Hamiak? here try to sell an interest in his T. machine.
Wed Oct 24: Will baling hay. Self working on dyke 1/4. Was up to Walters in the P.M. Stormy last night.
Thu Oct 25: Will baling. Self working on dyke 1/2 & sifted grass seed in the P.M. Stormy part of the day.
Fri Oct 26: Will went after potatos in the A.M. and self not doing much. Was down to the dyke. In the P.m. hauled out the old sluice box for plank walk. Also got out the flying Dutchman and fixed it up for plowing.
Sat Oct 27: Am 45 to day. Will not working. Went to the Samish. Self went to town to Gaches Sale. Cool & clowdy. Had a kind of a birthday party this eve.
Sun Oct 28: Went to church. Rain last night. Clowdy today.
Mon Oct 29: Will baling hay at Lee's. Went up to Redishs to pay for potatos. Very windy. Planking up the shed in the P.M.
Tue Oct 30: Rainy part of the day. Working some putting rock along the Peter Miller dyke. Joe Hamman? here to self threshing machine. Will baling hay.
Wed Oct 31: Will baling hay. Self not doing much. Boarded up the hay shed on the north end.

Thu Nov 01: Went to town with chickens. Ida & Grant also. Will baling at Lee's finished.
Fri Nov 02: Not doing anything except fix the wharf at the hay barn. The Perry at Lee's getting oats. Went to the great Republican Rally at Wooly. Pleasant.
Sat Nov 03: Will not working or self wither except to split wood some. Pleasant day.
Sun Nov 04: The schooner Perry here and took on 335 bales or 42130 lbs. Pleasant day all at home all day.
Mon Nov 05: Rainy day went to Mt Vernon with Will get his papers. Roads very muddy.
Tue Nov 06: Was at B.V. on election board. Rain from morning till night. "Pops" "Just a Poppin" Andrews lecture by the pop. One vote on an average about 40 Rep. votes to Pops a little more.
Wed Nov 07: Rainy day. Not doing anything but chores. Went to the station to hear the election news, nearly everything Rep. It has rained nearly every day since Monday A.M. Too wet to plow.

Thu Nov 08: Damp but not much rain. Will and self fixed the barn up for the colts. In the P.M. Will took 1000 lbs hay to Wilson for which he is to pay 4.00. Election news still Rep. Will got a load of D. timber of Tholstrup. Self fixed the hay barn to truck hay on.
Fri Nov 09: Went down to work on the dyke but could do nothing for tide. Start for town at 1030. Will done chores and split ditch timber. Misty, some people plowing warm & wet.
Sat Nov 10: Split ditch timber some in the A.M. then went to the Samish to look at the machine. Did not buy it. Pleasant day.
Sun Nov 11: Self went to church and took Nettie to town. Rain in the P.M.
Mon Nov 12: Will went to the Samish in the A.M. to see Joe ???. Self went up to see Pavitt but did not. Made a bbl Grant in the P.M. Went down & worked on the box cutting it off in the eve till 12 o'clock.
Tue Nov 13: Foggy. Self worked on dyke some and sifted grass seed. Will began plowing. Ground in pretty good shape.
Wed Nov 14: Will plowing in the A.M. and hauling out ditch timber & posts in the P.M. Self & Ida went to town.
Thu Nov 15: Will plowing. Self setting fence posts. Pleasant day. Ground in fine order.
Fri Nov 16: Will plowing. Self went to Mt Vernon. Made dyke report to the County Comms and saw a ticket agent. Then came to LaConner by stage. Staid at Grandma's.
Sat Nov 17: Rain hard all last night. Was in LaConner till after dinner & came home with Mr. Martin. Will making fence. Too wet to plow.
Sun Nov 18: Pleasant day. Staid home getting ready for my trip. Lee, Mrs Bradley & Etta here in the eve.
8Mon Nov 19: This has been a very windy day. Didn't do much this A.M. Papa went back East this A.M. Will & I took Papa up to the station. Plowed a little bit this P.M.
Tue Nov 20: Will took us all to LaConner. Pleasant.

Tue Nov 27: Rained hard all day & all last night. Ground full of water. Will brought the horses up and cleaned the chicken house.
