Tue Jan 01: Fine weather doing chores. Shot 2 duck. Very quiet New Year day.
Wed Jan 02: Began work on a small scow and some ??? chores. Frosty weather & higher tides. Water coming through the dyke pretty bad.
Thu Jan 03: Finished the scow. The carrots are spoiling with salt water. Mrs Ball & Globe here to dinner. Whitney went to Fidalgo Island this eve. Kate also.
Fri Jan 04: Not doing much by chores. Highest tide for 2 weeks. Pretty well filled up inside. Dave Fulks cross dyke broke in several places and flooded him again. Got a bill from Martin & Gaches this P.M. Dug the parsnips this P.M. Bebber has worked 27 days besides the dam & Whitneys cross dyke.
Sat Jan 05: Pretty high tide to day & some rain. Not doing much but chores.
Sun Jan 06: Reading "Mask Torn Off". High tide again today. Warm & pleasant. The inside dyke still islands.
Mon Jan 07: Pleasant. The Hulls came to day. Was down to the dam this P.M. with Whitney. Grandma started for W.I. Dug carrots & put down carpet. Light frost this A.M.

Tue Jan 15: Mercury at 26 this A.M. & last night. Grinding feed again at Whitneys. Peter hunting. Clear & cool. Was down to Tillinghasts this eve.
Wed Jan 16: Went hunting this A.M. with Peter and done chores in the P.M. Peter went home this P.M. with a doz. ducks. I shot 5 today. John Peth got hurt.
Thu Jan 17: Done chores. Dug carrots & went up to Balls. Warmer with south wind all day. Water up into the orchard to day again. Tides not overly but in all day from daylight till dark.
Fri Jan 18: Done chores and went up to Bob Woodburns in the P.M. and out to look at timber claim with John Ball.
Sat Jan 19: Went to Mt Vernon to witness for Bob Woodburn. Walked all the way and got home at 5 P.M. Paid taxes and got Miller's deed recorded.

Fri Jan 25: Went to town and got home at 12.30. Lovely weather. Putting down oil cloth and putting up picture rails in P.M. Whitney came home from Seattle to day. Wrote to Geo. Sisson and sent for L H C for Mrs Miller.
Sat Jan 26: Done the chores. Put up an eave trough and conductor on kitchen porch. Sold timber land to John Ball for $300. Henderson & Shields here this Eve. Still lovely weather. Dug some more carrots.
Sun Jan 27: Another lovely day. Frost this A.M. 27°. Shields & Henderson started home after dinner. McKennas folks here this A.M. to get the wardrobe.
Mon Jan 28: Still pleasant. Frost this A.M. 28°. Made a foot rest and put up pictures, split wood, &c.
Tue Jan 29: Painted porch posts and put up the brackets, done chores. Water up into the orchard again. Alf Stacey here last night & this A.M. Pleasant and no rain.
Wed Jan 30: Dug a scow load of carrots. Another fine day. Working about the house & shop.

Mon Feb 04: Putting moulding around the porch posts and painting them. Whitneys men began on the dyke. Two men here from Skagit to buy horses. Fine day.
Tue Feb 05: Sold Rock, Dol. and Kate and the old harness for $140. Worked on front gate some in the P.M. Fine weather.
Wed Feb 06: Made honey and painted front gate. Pleasant. Whitneys team plowing the past 3 days.
Thu Feb 07: Went up to Balls and got Star and brought him home, Found Ball's men plowing with 2 teams. Painted on the balesters for Porch.
Fri Feb 08: Finished painting the porch, fixing and painted the gate - second coat.
Sat Feb 09: There has been no water over my ranch for the past 2 days. Lovely weather. Grass growing lovely. also in the AM took the scow down to the school house after noon set out a spruce tree and done roses. Began making a horse of Star.
Sun Feb 10: Another pleasant day. Warmer than last 60°. Had bad cold. Mr Hull & T's folks here this P.M.
Mon Feb 11: Doing chores & cutting wood. Was fixing fence ome and down to the dam. Gordon here in the evening show his collection of Australian curiosities. W. & T's folks here also in the eve.

Sun Feb 17: Cool and a little snow this A.M. less than 1 in. Pleasant in the P.M. T. & Mr Hull up in the P.M.
Mon Feb 18: Bold raw disagreeable day with some snow, but it melted as fast as it came. Worked on the fence some and filed 2 saws.
Tue Feb 19: Warmer to day. Worked at the fence some and was down to the dyke and school house in the P.M. 9 men working at the big dam.
Wed Feb 20: Making a gate for the chicken fence. Began making an apron up by the hay barn. Yesterday tide not low enough.
Thu Feb 21: Sent for the Voice and "sweet Cicely". Hung the gate on the chicken fence and finished the apron up by the hay barn. Rain some this A.M.
Fri Feb 22: Clowdy not very pleasant weather. Made a gate latch. Done the chores and in the P.M. helped on the Allen Dam. Higher tides than we had 2 weeks ago.
Sat Feb 23: The dam all night at 10 oclock this A.M. North wind and a cold mist. Worked on the dyke this P.M. Got the water nearly shut off this side.

Sun Feb 24: Clear & pleasant with north wind. Frost, temp 32°. Spent the day mostly reading. Hull came up and went home across the ranch. He thinks there will be some cabbage seed yet. I don't see much chance for any.
Mon Feb 25: Went up to Mr Egbers to make a tank for him. C. Bowden here in the eve. South E wind all day, but good plowing weather. Nearly all the farmer are at it. Whitney & a good gang at the dyke.
Tue Feb 26: Working at the tank again to day, finished it. Clowdy with a S. easter but no rain.
Wed Feb 27: The dyke broke again yesterday A.M. Did not do much today. Strong S.E. wind.
Thu Feb 28: Went to town. Took Grandma & Mrs W. went also. Had a good trip & got home at 4 P.M.

Fri Mar 01: Rain a good part of the day. Made a piece of fence by the privy and tinkered in the shop some.
Sat Mar 02: Working on the dyke to day. Got the water shut off again and are in hopes for got this time. The grass in my meadow seems to be alive yet.
Sun Mar 03: Nearly sick with cold. Wrote to mother. Fine weather. Was down to Whitneys a while in the P.M.
Mon Mar 04: Went down to fix the sluice on the road, then threw rails, &c out of the road. Worked on picket fence in the P.M.
Tue Mar 05: Went down to fix bridge again but there was too much water. Not doing much today.
Wed Mar 06: Was down to the dam a little while, then came home and filed saws for W. Fine dry weather. Every body plowing.

Sun Aug 04: The picknicers came home in the night last night at 12 oclock. Went to Sunday School and up to Watters in the eve.
Mon Aug 05: Went to the Island on the house. Warm & dry. Whitney cutting with 2 binders, Ball also.
Tue Aug 06: Have worked on Whitneys house 23 1/4 days before today. Working on the Island, began on the tank.
Wed Aug 07: Working for Whitney making fence.
Thu Aug 08: Working on the house again, Munroe also. Went to LaConner in the Eve to the Institute lecture.
Fri Aug 09: Working on the tank for Whitney. Very smoky & lots of fog.

Sun Aug 11: Went to LaConner to church. Tillinghasts folks also. Very dusty & dry. Staid to dinner at Peter's.

Sat Aug 17: Working at Whitneys in the A.M. & went to town in the P.M. Got a bbl sugar and a box of plums. Had a quite a shower and filled up the tank.
Sun Aug 18: Went to Sunday school. Pleasant day. Tillinghasts went also.
Mon Aug 19: Working on the engine getting it ready to thresh. Tillinghasts & Ida went to town in the P.M.
Tue Aug 20: Fired up the engine & in the P.M. moved the machine up to Balls and set it. Walter came down & helped haul a load of hay. He had Beauty to go to town.
Wed Aug 21: Began threshing. Grain not turning out very well and is small. [margin: Pearl began music.]
Thu Aug 22: Threshing at Balls. Moved twice. Walter driving my team.
Fri Aug 23: Threshing 1/2 day. Walter hauling wood in A.M. Had quite a shower last night. Was up to the Soderburg ranch in the A.M. to see Seamans engine. It did not work well yet. Troublesome pump.
Sat Aug 24: Threshing all day at Ball's.
Sun Aug 25: Threshing at Ball's. The Bay View church dedicated to day.
Mon Aug 26: Threshing at Balls. Damp & bad threshing. Walter threshing all the time so far with my team. Rain quite hard at 1/2 past 5 P.M.
Tue Aug 27: No threshing to day. Went to town in the P.M. & to Whitneys Island in the A.M. Walter went to town with us in the P.M. Bought a pair of boots & an engineer suit.
Wed Aug 28: Began threshing at 8.30 A.M. Walter working 3/4 day.
Thu Aug 29: Threshing all day. Fine weather. Still at Balls.

Tue Sep 24: Threshing. Finished at 2 P.M. then moved the machine home. Fell and hurt my ribs in the afternoon and my side is very sore to night.
Wed Sep 25: Was pretty sore to day. Was down to Whitney fixing engine in the A.M. and not doing much in the P.M. Tillinghast had the team and the wagon to go to LaConner. Rep. meeting to night at B.V.
Thu Sep 26: Another fine day. Went to Bay View. Side still sore. Took dinner at Elliotts & settled beef bill.
Fri Sep 27: In the A.M. did nothing. In the P.M. went to Bay View to church meeting but there was not enough preset to do anything.
Sat Sep 28: Strong S.E. wind all day and little rain at night. Went to town in the P.M.

Fri Oct 04: Not doing much. Went to the basket store(?) in the eve. Fine weather. They took over $65.00.
Sat Oct 05: Went to LaConner. Took Mrs Peck & Tillinghast. Roy Carters folks here.
Sun Oct 06: Went to Bay View to S.S. & church. Had lots of company in the P.M. and a sing.
Mon Oct 07: Roy's folks still here. Was up to the saw mill & over to Jenne's in the A.M.
Tue Oct 08: Went to LaC. to take Roy's folks. Rain some. This is the last day of school.
Wed Oct 09: Not doing much in the P.M. in the A.M. sowed another sack of timothy. 320 lbs all told 17 or 18 acres. More rain last night.

Wed Oct 16: Rolling the grass seed. Drove Charley in the A.M. He worked well.
Thu Oct 17: Rolling with Charley in the A.M. Breaking Frank & Jean in the P.M. Charley weighs 1150, Frank 1105, Jean 980.
Fri Oct 18: In the forenoon working Charley hauling manure. In the P.M. went to Bay View to get the W.C.T.U.'s. Then hitched up Frank.
Sat Oct 19: Hauling manure in the A.M. and in the A.M. harnessed up Jean to the wagon. She behaved pretty well also. Fine Indian summer weather.
Sun Oct 20: Went to Sunday School and wrote to George in the P.M.
Mon Oct 21: Tillinghast went to town with the team. Self grading down dyke.
