Sat Dec 25: Christmas. Stormy day and in the evening it began snowing & sleeting. Went down to Whitneys to the Christmas dinner and to the tree in the eve. Mr Bradshow was here to order a Courtland buggie & gave me $100. for buggie & harness.

Sat Jan 29: Heavy rain all day. Cleaning grain & timothy seed. Finished the job. John Ball here for 75-80 sacks of seed grain yesterday & 25 of barley. Alf here & helping us some. Got 30 dollars per ton of Ball for oats.
Sun Jan 30: John Peth here to day and engaged 15 sacks of barley at $25.00 per ton. Heaviest wind last night for many a day. Very changeable weather to day. Wind, sunshine & snow. [margin: High tide & nor west wind.]
Mon Jan 31: Went down on the dyke to see what damage the wind done. It was slight. Came back & made a stall for old Kate in the wagon shed. Will ditching & I in the P.M. Snowy & cold at night.

Thu Aug 11: Will hauled 2 load of posts. Self mending sacks. Warm & smokey. Alf Stacey here to dinner. Sowey had pigs today.
Fri Aug 12: Went to the woods in the A.M. & cut a load of threshing wood and hauled it out to the road. In the P.M. hauled a load of straw. Hauled some dirt to leave at the first? house and to fix road out by the barn.
Sat Aug 13: John Ball & Callahan cutting oats. Will digging a ditch by the hay barn tank, not working in the P.M. Went deer hunting. Self down at Whitneys to day working at the engine.
Sun Aug 14: Foggy & smokey. Went to LaConner to church and baptizing. Then to the school house to church in the P.M. The childrens sermon.
Mon Aug 15: Will digging a ditch for the lane. I digging potatos & fixing the eave spouts.
Tue Aug 16: Went to LaConner. Got 120 lbs binding twine, bbl sugar & flour. Took dinner with Peters folks. Will at the ditch for lane.
Wed Aug 17: Got out the binder and rigged it up in the A.M. In the P.M. got ready and started the scow for water and went after supper.
Thu Aug 18: Was out for water all last night. Misty & dark. Not doing much to day. Brought the scow home from the canal in the P.M.
Fri Aug 19: Was down to Whitneys working on the dyke & filling up the place where the box was by the ware house. I worked on the engine in the P.M.

Sat Aug 20: Rigged up the binder & began to cut but broke the needle the first round. Went to LaConner and had to send to Portland for it. Nearly everybody cutting now. We have 72 acres ready to cut.
Sun Aug 21: Pleasant, staid at home all day, reading.
Mon Aug 22: Will went to town to get the binder fixed. Did not get back in time to do anything except to put it together.
Tue Aug 23: Began cutting. Binder not working well. Dave & Jennies helping.
Wed Aug 24: Cutting after 9-30. Jenne helping. Snowflake had a calf this A.M.
Thu Aug 25: Cutting after 8-30. Finished the south side of the road at 11 A.M. Got 50 lbs of twine of Dave Fulk. It is the best twine I ever used. The binder was missed any today. Was down to Whitneys in the eve.
Fri Aug 26: Cutting after 8.30. Everything going splendidly.
Sat Aug 27: Cutting after 9.30 till 3. quit for rain and began again after an hour and cut 2 hours. Dave & John have helped 5 days each up to date and the team 5 days also.
Sun Aug 28: Pleasant day. Staid at home & read. Wrote to George. Took Daisy to Whitneys.
Mon Aug 29: Fulk & John working here until 4.30 P.M. Will & the bind went to Fulks at 4 P.M. Finished the oats across the road. 66 acres.
Tue Aug 30: All cutting and shocking at Fulks. Fine weather.
Wed Aug 31: Finished Fulks 25 acres and began on my wheat at 4-30.

Thu Sep 01: Finished the wheat and the field of oats next the road. It is a fine piece of grain. Cut around the Abbot piece just at night. This piece was sown May 12th.
Fri Sep 02: Rainy & misty. Not doing much but fixing drapers & cutting wood.
Sat Sep 03: Weather about the same as yesterday.
Sun Sep 04: Staid in bed most of the day. Not feeling well. Fine weather.
Mon Sep 05: Began cutting at 10-30. Heavy fog before. Finished my oats & wheat. Dave worked 3/4 day & Johnnie also.

Tue Oct 04: Was pretty sick last night and had Dr. Calhoun this A.M. Burns & Will hauling sacks to day. John McKown got 4 sacks oats & 3 of barley which came to 8.25 cts. Am feeling some better to night & hope it may last. Pleasant drying day (hash marks) 22 1/4.
Wed Oct 05: Burns & Will hauling sacks. Pleasant A.M. & frost, but clowdy and looking like rain in the P.M. Burns has worked 23 3/4 days to date.
Thu Oct 06: Burns & Will hauling sacks. Rain again last night. Still in bed but not very sick.

Sun Dec 25: Christmas again. The children are happy. Rainy day as usual. Wrote to George. Went down to Whitneys and had a sing in the P.M. I am milking SnowFlake now. Began last week.
Mon Dec 26: Another stormy day. Not doing much but chores. Made a rack for the horses hay. Tillinghast's folks up last eve and brought a letter from George.
Tue Dec 27: Went to the sawmill with Tillinghast in the A.M. & helped him make seed store in the P.M.
Wed Dec 28: Went to town with Whitney and done the chores. Ch. Bowden & John Siegfred here in the eve.
Thu Dec 29: Sent the wheat to Gaches with Bowden. Helped Otto weigh grain a while. He sold for 23.00. Helped Tillinghast in the P.M.
Fri Dec 30: Choring about as usual.
Sat Dec 31: Put down the carpet and done the chores.
Sun Jan 01: Fine weather. Was down to Tillinghasts and Whitneys in the P.M.
Mon Jan 02: Done the chores. Put some window lights in the school house, one in the pantry & went to the road meeting. Lovely weather.
Tue Jan 03: Made a box to feed horses in and dressed plank for the new tank. Cooler.
Wed Jan 04: Mercury at 25 this A.M. Finished dressing the plank and shut up the teams in hay barn.
Thu Jan 05: Temp 15. Clear & cold. Not doing much but chores. made a set of boxes to hold oat meal, &c.
Fri Jan 06: Temp 12 Cutting wood & doing chores.
Sat Jan 07: Temp 12 Clear, but pleasant. Cut wood and made a woodbox door.
Sun Jan 08: Temp 12 No sign of a thaw. Will & Puget here to dinner & Ed Stacey. Went to Whitneys in the P.M. to sing. Wrote for a plow circular and to George.
Mon Jan 09: Temp 15 Shut up Kates colt. Cut off her hoofs and Doll's also cut. Cut some wood and done the chores. Ground frozen very hard. [margin: A baby at Whitney's last night.]
Tue Jan 10: Making PO box for Tillinghast. Mr Holtzinger's folks here in the P.M. Warmer.
Wed Jan 11: Clowdy & windy and a little rain. Ice in the slough yet. Whitney went to town in his wagon.
Thu Jan 12: Snow this A.M. and heavy north wind all day. It began to grow cold and mercury about at 7 at bed time.
Fri Jan 13: Mercury at 0 this A.M. The first time I ever saw it so in W.T. clear and cold all day.
Sat Jan 14: Still clear & cold. Not doing much but chores. [margin: Temp 9° this A.M.]
