Thu Dec 24: Higher tide this A.M. but not so high as the Nov tide. Not working today. Laying off for Christmas tree this A.M.
Fri Dec 25: Christmas. Had a fine time last night at the tree, but the weather was bad & rainy. Had the highest tide this A.M. we have had for 10 or more years. John Ball flooded again. Our dyke all right. Except what ran over and leaked through. Very pleasant A.M. but clowdy towards noon. Got a chicken of Aunt Lou for Christmas.
Sat Dec 26: Went up to the Smith Ranch and made rails and at 10 P.M. went up and helped John Ball put in a dam. Sterns helping make rails.
Sun Dec 27: Helping Ball until 7 A.M. Was pretty sleepy. Rainy day.
Mon Dec 28: Helped Sterns fix the shed for his colts. Bought some oats of Crumrine. 90 dollars worth at 18 per ton. Fixed dyke some in the P.M.
Tue Dec 29: Worked for Whitney making a sluice box.
Wed Dec 30: Worked on the house ceiling, the large bedroom & done the chores.
Thu Dec 31: Went to Crumrines to get the team, but he was not at home. Help Sterns haul straw & hay. Got 910 lbs baled hay of Whitney. Crumrine brought the team down in the P.M.

Fri Jan 01: Spent the day in the house visiting W.J.W., Mr & Mrs Richards, Aunt Lou, A.G.T. & wife were here to dinner. Not a very pleasant day out of doors, but passable in the house by the stove. about 1/2 inch of snow.

Mon Jan 11: Went up to Crumrines in the A.M. then came back and worked on the house casing tower windows.
Tue Jan 12: Working on house finished tower windows. Rainy good part of the day.
Wed Jan 13: Working on the house, made a trap door for tower and put up moulding &c. Heavy rain all last night and a good part of the day.
Thu Jan 14: Snow this A.M. about 4 inches. Worked on the house. Finished moulding, the ceiling & began putting in pantry shelves.
Fri Jan 15: This is the coldest A.M. of the winter so far. Done the chores, harnessed the team, hauled a load of hay & a load of wood in the woodhouse. Worked on pantry shelves 1/2 days. [margin: Uncle Will here in the eve.]
Sat Jan 16: Clear & cold. Done the chores & some odd jobs in the house. Put up some more shelves in the pantry. Made a picture frame & some knife boxes. [margin: Mercury at 19° at 9 P.M.]
Sun Jan 17: Reading most of the day. Cold but pleasant. Mrs A. & May B came up in the P.M.
Mon Jan 18: Went up to the Ridge in the A.M. & settled with Crumrine and got the harrow teeth. did not do much the balance of the day but chores. Aunt Lou, Will & Sterns folks here in the evening.
Tue Jan 19: Went to the timber with Will and cut down a cedar tree for ditch timber. This has been the coldest day of the season. Average 18°
Wed Jan 20: Went to LaConner with Sterns & Tillinghast. Had a very hard trip. Very heavy north wind. All day & night.
Thu Jan 21: Working on the trap door to tower and choring around. Filed the big saw. Went down to Whitney's in the P.M. a while. W.J. here in the eve. Reading Fool's Errand.
Fri Jan 22: Went to the woods to saw shake & ditch timber. Sterns also. Snowing some all day but not enough to prevent work.
Sat Jan 23: 3120 lbs of hay of Whitney. Hauled a load of hay & a load of wood & split wood some. Snow going off fast with chinook wind.

Sun Jan 24: Had the highest tide this A.M. we ever know of since living here. Nearly every body flooded but our dyke has no breaks, except down at the Sigfried place, but it ran over nearly all around. Water 3 or 4 inches deep about the house. Whitney's ranch badly flooded across the slough. He has a break and lots of hay & grain wt. Had a heavy S. Easter last night and a Norwester to day. Went down and helped Whitney fix his rink dyke in the P.M.
Mon Jan 25: Tide 10 inches less than yesterday A.M. Helped Whitney this morning on dyke & sluice box since 10 A.M. till 7.30 Tues morn A.M. Went to Jones to get saws out of the woods. Went over to help put in Whitneys box but could not on acct of water inside of dyke. [margin: Mrs. Whitney had a boy baby (Ilo) today.]
Tue Jan 26: Done the chores & went to bed in the A.M. In the P.M. began fixing dyke down by the point. Tillinghast, Otto & VanValkenburg helping.
Wed Jan 27: Not doing much in the A.M. Working on dyke in the P.M. Co. dyke.
Thu Jan 28: Done the chores & made a pair of single trees. Bad day to work out of doors. Wanted to go to town but did not for wind & rain was too bad. [margin: W.J. here to ???d black lice(?)]
Fri Jan 29: Went to LaConner. Blanche started for Fidalgo. Had a good trip and tide both ways. The Schooner Perry here for 1000 sacks of oats of Otto's. price per ton $20.

Sun Jan 31: The schooner Perry went out of the slough this A.M. Went calling on Jones & Callahan's folks. Clear with north wind. Got a 9 pound butter crock of Whitney to day.

Mon Feb 01: Helped Sterns weight out oats in the A.M. 24716 lbs in the P.M. Sawed up fence post and made some double trees. Done the chores, &c. Cold rain in the eve.
Tue Feb 02: Rainy in the A.M. & misty in P.M. In the P.M. went down to Whitneys hay barn & got 16 bales of hay on scow. Mrs W. not well.
Wed Feb 03: Went to town with Whitney in a boat, got some pipes for kitchen chimney. Had an easy trip.
Thu Feb 04: Unloaded the hay. Mr Sterns helped. Rained some. In the P.M. fixed chimney for the kitchen. Cemented it some. [margin: 1/2 on house.]
Fri Feb 05: Went down to the sawmill in the A.M. and pinned truss in the P.M. Sterns went to the Skagit. The grass is starting nicely and it look very much like spring.

Sat Feb 13: Stormy day. Worked up stairs most of the day making a hanner(?). Aunt Lou & Uncle Will up in the eve.

Mon Feb 15: Fixed up the chicken yard and house. Mary & Alf down to night.
Tue Feb 16: Put a fence along the dyke from the granary to Whitneys Corner.
Wed Feb 17: Rainy last night, but good day to work. Made some flower beds. Cleaned out the chicken house, mended fence & gate. and cleaned up around the yard. &c, &c, &c
Thu Feb 18: Went down to Whitneys & got a pair of pigs, pruned raspberries some and some other chores. Mrs Darcy here this P.M. and Sterns up after hay but did not get any.
Fri Feb 19: Spent the day grading the yard. Mrs Darcy went down to Aunt Lous. North wind. Good working weather.
Sat Feb 20: Hauled out some lumber for gates and 2 load of wood into the wood house. Worked the bal of the day in the garden pruning trees & currant bush. Set out a spruce & a juniper in the front yard.
Sun Feb 21: Sterns here after hay, etc. Pleasant weather. Staid about home all day. The Schooner in again from Victoria. Grant is pretty well weaned now, he has had no titty since Wednesday.
Mon Feb 22: Transplanted some evergreens in the yard. Took away the fence in front of the house and hung a gate to the pasture north of the house. Otto here and paid me on his note 396.60. Went to Whitneys and paid him the amt. due him, $25. & $30 towards the seeder am to pay bal. when I sell the grain. Fine drying weather and drying up fast.
Tue Feb 23: Went to LaConner & paid bills to J. Gaches, Poole & Saloon, Davis, Graham & Maher &c. Had a windy day. Whitney went also. Whitney had to mow lawn yesterday.

Fri Feb 26: Worked on the harrow some and in the garden some. Went dow to Ws & got some gooseberry cuttings.
Sat Feb 27: Finished painting the harrow and commenced cleaning out the chamber. Grafted some trees & transplanted some. This is the coldest night of the month except on. Bill Woodburn to be here next week to work.
Sun Feb 28: Fine day. At home. Will Woodburn came to work tomorrow.

Mon Mar 01: Hauling in dirt in the yard. Woodburn helping. Went and got Peter's stove and put in the old house. Hauled a load of straw for bedding. Sharp frost this A.M.

Wed Mar 03: Hauling dirt & working on the yard leveling &c. The Dr. down to see Whitney last night. W began plowing.
Thu Mar 04: Woodburn working on the road with Otto. I working in the front yard. Made a hand roller and rolled it.
Fri Mar 05: W & self clearing the old fence away and getting ready to build new one on the east end of the ranch. Most everyone plowing in the neighborhood except myself. Sent to James Means for shoes to day. Looks like rain to night. Very fine weather for the last week.
Sat Mar 06: Working on the Smith line fence. Setting posts. Got them all set. Fine weather but looks like rain to night.
Sun Mar 07: Went to church and heard Mr Brooks preach. Was in to see Whitney for a while. Peter was here to dinner & staid all night. Frank Darcy & Mr Jorgenson here also. Beautiful day but rained a little in the A.M.
Mon Mar 08: Began plowing with 3 horses. Got old Prince home again, seeded the lawn & set a gate, post and helped Otto 2 hours load grain. Very windy & a little rain.
Tue Mar 09: Windy but a drying day. Will plowing. Helped Bowden load 308 sks oats in the A.M. and he started for Victoria. Made a gate & fixed fence some. Worked on the Smith line fence in the P.M. Eva had her boy today.
Wed Mar 10: Will plowing. I working on the Smith line fence & gate. Got it all up. Fine plowing weather. Ground in fine order. Bowden started out of the bay for Victoria this A.M.

Sun Mar 21: Went down to see Eva's baby and called on Whitney. Got a ???? weight - 20 lbs. Strong wind all day. Ground dry enough to plow again now but it looks like rain.
Mon Mar 22: Plwoing in a slough & ditches hauling old fence posts. Went to Darcy's to take the mill home in P.M. Windy drying day.
Tue Mar 23: Went to town to take Gertrude & got money for oats. Paid Gaches not of 207 dollars. Strong west wind all day. Got home at 8 P.M. Will plowing.
Wed Mar 24: Raining in the A.M. Not doing much. Went out to plow but quit. In the P.M. Will & self out by the SW corner of the "Allen 80" grading a slough.
Thu Mar 25: Finished the harrow. Fixed up the carpenter shop some. Set out a grape vine. Put up the kitchen chimney. Made a railing around the porch upstairs, &c.

Sun Jun 06: Staid at home most of the day. Grandma went to Darcy's(?) yesterday. An effort was made to organize a Sunday School. Went with little success.
Mon Jun 07: Had a light rain last night. Working in the garden weeding & thinning carrots. Made a calf pen.
Tue Jun 08: Finished hoeing & weeding the garden. Set out some cabbage, hauled in some wood &c. Light rain in the eve.
Wed Jun 09: Went to the timber. Cut a tree. Will hauled 3 loads of timber.
Thu Jun 10: Working in the timber as before. Hauled 2 loads.
Fri Jun 11: Cut a tree for shakes and hauled a load home & one of D. timber. Warm & dry.
Sat Jun 12: Same as yesterday. Measured the line with Callahan, so as to know where to cut trees. Grain looking quite well but it all needs rain.
Sun Jun 13: Went to Sunday School today. Mr. T. is supt. Went with Uncle Will & Aunt Lou for salmon berries in the P.M.

Sun Jun 20: Miss Price went to LaC. this A.M. and Will with her. Went to Sunday School in the P.M. Had a good attendance.

Sun Jun 27: We have been working on the barn all this past week and have it all done except inside work. Strawberries are about gone. Grandma L. is still away. We have had no rain yet and the weeds weeds are gaining on the grain. I don't think there will be over 30 to 40 bus per acre. The garden look well. Gertie W. is still here. Have written to Geo to day. Went to Sunday School today. It was a small school.
Mon Jun 28: This is local option election day. Went in the P.M. Worked cleaning up around the barn to day and hauled some manure into the orchard.
Tue Jun 29: Mowed some this A.M. Mrs. W. & Alf Stacey were here & Gertie went home with them. Went up to the timber in the A.M. & got a load of punchoens in the P. Still dry. Had a small shower yesterday A.M.
Wed Jun 30: Set off the school clean report this A.M. Peter was here this P.M. Mowed 4 acres ??? grass. It is light. Heard that Slocum was killed. Whitney finished raising the barn.

Tue Dec 28: Snow all gone & weather warmer to the woods to make some posts to fix the Whitney line fence. Highest tide of the season so far this winter.
Wed Dec 29: Working in the timber making posts. Fine day. Whitney went to town with the boat.
Thu Dec 30: Will plowing. Self unloading boat & choring about. Settled with Otto.
Fri Dec 31: Rain hard most all day. Not doing much. Will not working. Tides low & weather warm.
Sat Jan 01: Fine warm day. Will went to LaConner. I moved the tank from the old house to the stable.
Sun Jan 02: Rainy most of the day. Went down to the Hall & heard Mr. Moore preach.
Mon Jan 03: Hauling rails & making fence.
Tue Jan 04: Making fence out beyond the haybarn. Rain part of the day.
Wed Jan 05: Not doing much. Rainy day. Split wood some.
Thu Jan 06: Will making fence & I part of the day sawed up a wood log & helped about the house some. Alfie Stacey here in the eve.
Fri Jan 07: Went to the timber to load out fence posts. A beautiful day with a light frost this A.M.
Sat Jan 08: Putting wire on the fence posts and built a picket fence out by the strawberry bed. Pleasant day. [margin: Frost.]
Sun Jan 09: Wind south again & raining a little. Tides very low for the season.
Mon Jan 10: Rainy day. Not doing much. Cut a little wood, went down to help W. to fix the engine a little.
Tue Jan 11: In the A.M. made a seeder tongue. Not doing much in the P.M. Went hunting a little while. [margin: Tides low. Rainy day.]
Wed Jan 12: Clear A.M. Rainy P.M. Got up at 5 & went to Callahans for a scow load of posts. Got home at 10 A.M. W. & T. went town.
Thu Jan 13: Will hauling out posts some. I went to town. Rainy part of the day.
