E.A. took the entire family to Factoryville for several months. The family include Pearl aged 7 and Nettie aged 4. There are no diary records of the farm during their trip. All of the diary records are from the trip. On September 15th they left LaPlume headed to Ida's family in LeClaire, Iowa for 2 weeks. They then went to Nebraska to visit Ida's sister Ellen Clark. They left Creighton, Nebraska for home via St. Paul on October 24th arriving home in La Conner on November 1, 1884.

  •  2Tue Mar 11: Started East at 3 oclock in the morning. Had a rough day. Folks all seasick. Got to Seattle at 3 P.M. & started for Tacoma and around at 7 P.M.
  •  2Wed Mar 12: Went to Portland today. arrived at 4 P.M. Went to the Quimby House.
  •  2Thu Mar 13: Staid all day in Portland.
  •  2Fri Mar 14: Started from Portland at 1 o'clock and travelled all night.
  •  2Sat Mar 15: Travelled from Umatilla to Spokane Falls. Our baggage was put on the Express today.
  •  2Sun Mar 16: Travelling all day through Montana. Was at Missoula at 2 P.M.
  •  2Mon Mar 17: Traveling through Mont. and Dakota.
  •  2Tue Mar 18: Still going in Dakota.
  •  2Wed Mar 19: Went through Minn. and arrived in St. Paul at 7:30 PM. Went to the Sherman house and staid all night.
  •  2Thu Mar 20: Started from St. Paul at 12:45 P.M. Travelled all day & all night.
  •  2Fri Mar 21: Arrived in Chicago this morning Early and took Breakfast. Started at 8.50 for Buffalo.
  •  2Sat Mar 22: Got in Buffalo at 3.50 and left again at 8.40 and arrived in LaPlume at 7.25 P.M. took supper at Holgates and got home at 8 P.M.
  •  2Sun Mar 23: Staid in the house all day. It was a rainy day. Did lots of talking &c.
  •  2Mon Mar 24: Saw George this P.M. on his return from Scranton.
  •  2Tue Mar 25: Pleasant day went down to LaPlume. Saw the improvements then went to George Baileys. Father went to Scranton.
  •  2Wed Mar 26: Staid at home in the A.M. & went down to Factoryville in the P.M. Saw Aunt & Grandma also Grandpa Green & some other folks. Clowdy.
  •  2Thu Mar 27: Staid at home all day. Uncle Byron was here and Holgates folks in the P.M.
  •  2Fri Mar 28: Went with George to Dalton in the morning. Staid about home in the P.M.
  •  2Sat Mar 29: Went to the saw mill in the A.M. Did not do much in the balance of the day.
  •  2Sun Mar 30: Mercury down to 15° with a strong wind. Blowing a gale. Went to Church at F.
  •  2Mon Mar 31: Cold & windy. Helped Father some tap over trees. Went down to the Post office in the P.M. A little sap run.
  •  2Tue Apr 01: Helped Father tap over trees. Sap run pretty good. Went for the mail in the P.M.
  •  2Wed Apr 02: Helped gather sap in the A.M. Staid in the house and read East Lyme in the P.M.
  •  2Thu Apr 03: Snow storm yesterday eve & P.M. Cold & windy to day. Went to Scranton to get some clothes. Snow 3 inches deep to day. Got home at 7 P.M.

  •  2Fri Apr 04: Staid around home all day except going to the post office. Went up to the woods in the eve & gathered sap some. Sap running first rate.
  •  2Sat Apr 05: Staid in the house most of the day reading East Lyme. Went to the post office in the P.M.
  •  2Sun Apr 06: Went to F. for church in the A.M. George got lost.
  •  2Mon Apr 07: Good sap weather. Was up to the woods.
  •  2Tue Apr 08: Gathering sap. 40 barrels in the P.M. The best sap day of the season.
  •  2Wed Apr 09: Gathered sap some. Rain & snow very disagreeable.
  •  2Thu Apr 10: Gathered 30 barrels of sap this A.M. Boiling in the P.M. Very disagreeable weather. Ida went to Holgates and got a tooth fixed(?).
  •  2Fri Apr 11: Worked up to the woods some boiling sap.
  •  2Sat Apr 12: Helped gather buckets in the A.M. & went to Factoryville in the P.M. to see Grandpas folks & Aunt Ida & the girls also.[margin: Pleasant.]
  •  2Sun Apr 13: Went to church & S.S. in the A.M. Mrs Leighton folks were up here in the P.M.
  •  2Mon Apr 14: Fine weather. Went down to help Isaac wrap up seeds.
  •  2Tue Apr 15: Dito yesterday. Clowdy & damp.
  •  2Wed Apr 16: Working for Isaac. Clowdy but not much rain. Got money from Andrews & letter from Whitney.
  •  2Thu Apr 17: Working for Isaac. Geo went to Scranton.
  •  2Fri Apr 18: Working for Isaac. The organ came yesterday. Mr Dean's folks were over this eve.
  •  2Sat Apr 19: Working for Isaac in the A.M. Staid at home in the P.M.
  •  2Sun Apr 20: Went to Dalton to church. Heard Mr Spencer preach. Ed Leighton called on us to day.

  •  2Tue Apr 22: Worked for Isaac. Colder.
  •  2Wed Apr 23: Mercury down to 23° this A.M. Washing buckets today.
  •  2Thu Apr 24: Fine drying weather. Working on the strawberry plants. Getting ready to sent them out.
  •  2Fri Apr 25: Sitting strawberries. Cool weather.
  •  2Sat Apr 26: Setting strawberries in the A.M. and went to Scranton in the P.M. Ida & the children also.
  •  2Sun Apr 27: Spent the day with Arthurs folks at Green Ridge. Very warm & pleasant.
  •  2Mon Apr 28: Spent the day in Scranton. Went over to Haycks and went to the bell ringers in the eve.
  •  2Tue Apr 29: Spent the day in Scranton and came home in the evening. Colder.
  •  2Wed Apr 30: Helped dig up and trim strawberry plants.
  •  2Thu May 01: Was sick with cold, did not do anything. Father planted Schonner oats & G.P. peas.
  •  2Fri May 02: Worked in the green house a little. not feeling very well. Dry & warm.
  •  2Sat May 03: Did not do much of anything. Father finished sowing oats. Arthur & his folks were up to spend Sunday.
  •  2Sun May 04: Went to church in the morning. Rainy day.
  •  2Mon May 05: Rainy part of the day. Set strawberries some. Rainy.
  •  2Tue May 06: Part of the day. Ground too wet to do anything. got a letter from Arthur White.
  •  2Wed May 07: Staid at home. Rained. Filed saws.
  •  2Thu May 08: Set plants & made boxes. Rained.
  •  2Fri May 09: Had thunder shower for change. Tinkered.
  •  2Sat May 10: Rained. Went to Dunning with Father. Ida went to Factoryville on the k??rs.
  •  2Sun May 11: Went to Factoryville to church and up to see Alanson Briggs in the P.M.
  •  2Mon May 12: Went to Scranton to see Barnum. Ida & the children staid down to Arthurs till Tuesday.
  •  2Tue May 13: Helped Geo. cut strawberries, &c.
  •  2Wed May 14: Helped plant potatos some. Will Greene was here a little while.

  •  2Thu May 15: Started for Phila. Arrived at 4.50. Went and saw Nettie & took supper with her. Put up at Bingham House, S.E. Cor of 11 & Market St.
  •  2Fri May 16: Spent the day sight seeing. Went to the Dunn Museum. Saw a game of B.B., the Mint & Hall, &c.
  •  2Sat May 17: Went to Fairmont Park & Waterworks, & Love(?) Gardens and to Chestnut St. Opera House in the eve.
  •  2Sun May 18: Went to church & to see Nettie. Took dinner with her. Went to the academy of Paintins & Fine Arts. In the eve staid with Nettie till 11 oclock.
  •  2Mon May 19: Started for home at 8.20 arrived at 6.45 P.M.
  •  2Tue May 20: Working about home.
  •  2Wed May 21: Working about home. Planting potatos &c.
  •  2Thu May 22: Working in the A.M. went to Factoryville in the eve. Ida & Nettie went on the Carr.
  •  2Fri May 23: Setting out tomatoes. &c. Very hot. 87.
  •  2Sat May 24: Hot 87 in the shade. Planted corn in the P.M.
  •  2Sun May 25: Went to hear Mr. McDermott, the M.E. pastor.
  •  2Mon May 26: At work at various jobs.
  •  2Tue May 27: Ditto. Cooler this week.
  •  2Wed May 28: Taking up plants, setting plants & hoeing strawberries.
  •  2Thu May 29: Heavy frost this A.M. 29°. Strawberries killed, planting potatos & hoing berries.
  •  2Fri May 30: Mercury at 29. Grapes killed. Working in garden in the A.M. went to Decoration in the P.M.
  •  2Sat May 31: Some warmer. Digging plants and hoing strawberries.
  •  2Sun Jun 01: Went to church & S.S. in the A.M. Aunt Esther & Uncle John came to call in the P.M.
  •  2Mon Jun 02: Hoeing, &c. Warm & dry.
  •  2Tue Jun 03: Washing sheep in the A.M. & working in the garden in the P.M. got a letter from P.M. Aunt and Lute were up here in the P.M.
  •  2Wed Jun 04: Working in the garden in the A.M. Father & I went fishing in the P.M. No luck. Warm & dry.
  •  2Thu Jun 05: Hoeing & watering strawberries.
  •  2Fri Jun 06: Pulled weeds in the strawberry bed, &c.
  •  2Sat Jun 07: Not doing much in the A.M. went to Covenent meeting in the P.M. at Factoryville and to the Academy entertainment in the evening.
  •  2Sun Jun 08: Ida went to church in the A.M. & I went to the Sunday School meeting in the evening. Lottie Clay here.
  •  2Mon Jun 09: Sent a letter to Whitney. Helped shear sheep.
  •  2Tue Jun 10: Had a fine shower last night. Warm & sultry. Hoeing potatos some.
  •  2Wed Jun 11: Finished shearing sheep & went spearing in the eve. Got five good eels and home at 12 oclock.
  •  2Thu Jun 12: Working on the road in the A.M. and hoeing strawberries in the P.M. fine growing weather.
  •  2Fri Jun 13: Picked berries a little while in the morning.
  •  2Sat Jun 14: And hoed corn the balance of the day. Geo went to Scranton & Wilkes-Barre.
  •  2Sun Jun 15: Went to Factoryville to church. Heard Rev S. W. Putnam preach a fine sermon.
  •  2Mon Jun 16: Having and picking berries. Warm & dry. Mercury standing a 40 in the A.M. and at 80 in the P.M.
  •  2Tue Jun 17: Ida started for Scranton to see Nettie. I hoeing & picking berries.
  •  2Wed Jun 18: Picking berries. Warm & dry.
  •  2Thu Jun 19: Ida came home from Scranton. Work ditto yesterday.
  •  2Fri Jun 20: Commencement day at Keystone Academy. Picked berries in the A.M. & went down to Factoryville in the P.M. Took supper with Aunt.
  •  2Sat Jun 21: Very warm. Above 90 in the shade for the last 3 days. Picking berries in the A.M. & making wire fence in the P.M. Had peas for dinner.
  •  2Sun Jun 22: Ida went to Church. Staid at home & read Uncle Tom's Cabin. Warm & dry.

  •  2Wed Aug 13: Went to Honesdale over the Gravity road with Baileys & Tillinghasts folks on invitation of H.A. Mace. Returned to LaPlume at 6.30. Found Ida Green here visiting.
  •  2Thu Aug 14: Said at home. Hunted woodchucks in the P.M. Shot 3. Warm & pleasant.
  •  2Fri Aug 15: Grandma Green's birthday. Went to the party for her at Uncle Pardons. Got home at 8 P.M. Warm day.

  •  2Fri Aug 22: Staid at home in the P.M. went to Geo Baileys in the P.M. Rainy. Saw Helen Bailey.
  •  2Sat Aug 23: Went down to Geo Baileys and in the P.M. went with Geo to Scranton. Staid all night at Netties.
  •  2Sun Aug 24: Went to the Penn boe Church and back to Netties to dinner and came home in the eve.
  •  2Mon Aug 25: Frost this morning. Mercury at 35°. Cut vine some in low places. Dug potatos some.
  •  2Tue Aug 26: Went to New York in Carr with Geo. Pat. Arrived at 3.30 P.M. Had a fine ride.
  •  2Wed Aug 27: In New York saw Central Park, B. Bridge, &c.
  •  2Thu Aug 28: Went to Coney Island & Brooklyn.
  •  2Fri Aug 29: In New york. Rainy day. Saw S. Exchange & Depot, &c.
  •  2Sat Aug 30: Came home. Got home at 7 P.M. Stopped in Sc'ton.

  •  2Mon Sep 01: At home in the A.M. and down to Holgates in the P.M.
  •  2Tue Sep 02: Went to Scranton with George marketing.
  •  2Wed Sep 03: Warm day went to the Association at F. Came home and went in the evening.

  •  2Fri Sep 05: Went to Factoryville in the P.M. to see Aunt & Grandpas folks. Warm.
  •  2Sat Sep 06: Staid at home in the A.M. & went to Scranton to stay with Netties folks in the P.M. or evening. I got there at 8.30 P.M. Hot.
  •  2Sun Sep 07: Went to church at Green Ridge. Very hot- Mercury at 98 in the shade at Scranton.
  •  2Mon Sep 08: Came home from Scranton. Mercury at 90. Our folks digging potatos and picking fruit, &c. [margin: 90°]
  •  2Tue Sep 09: Went to the Elmira Ex. and N.Y. State Fair. Had a very good time. Father went also. Warm. [margin: 90°]
  •  2Wed Sep 10: Got home from fair at 2.15 P.M. Warm. Began packing trunks. Father at the fair. [margin: 90°]
  •  2Thu Sep 11: F. came home last eve. We went to Factoryville and got tickets. Stopped at Aunt Phoebe's.
  •  2Fri Sep 12: Packing trunks, &c.
  •  2Sat Sep 13: Went to Scranton to see Buffalo Bill.
  •  2Sun Sep 14: Staid at home with mother. The rest went to church. Was down to Geo Baileys in the P.M. Laura Dean came over in the eve.
  •  2Mon Sep 15: Finished fixing trunks in the A.M. & started from LaPlume at 1.45. Geo with us as far as Binghamton. Arrived in Buffalo at 10.30 P.M. Went to the Benstlen(?) House.
  •  2Tue Sep 16: Visited Niagara Falls and started west at 2 P.M.
  •  2Wed Sep 17: Arrived in Chicago at 9 A.M. and in Davenport at 5.40. Went to Carl Staceys and staid all night.
  •  2Thu Sep 18: Went out to Mr Hyde's and staid all night.
  •  2Fri Sep 19: Went to Davenport and got a trunk with Mr Hyde.
  •  2Sat Sep 20: Went with Mr Hyde to Geo Leamers. Staid all night at Osbourns.
  •  2Sun Sep 21: Went to Mr McGinnis in the eve. Staid all night.

  •  2Fri Sep 26: I went to Davenport with Geo Hunt. Got home at 5 P.M. Rained this eve.
  •  2Sat Sep 27: Staid at Mr Hydes all day lonesome day. Rainy at night.
  •  2Sun Sep 28: Went to Davenport and put up at the Ackley house and in the eve went to Mr Moores.
  •  2Mon Sep 29: Got up at 4.30 and left D. at 5.20 and arrived in Missouri Valey at 9 P.M. and went to bed.
  •  2Tue Sep 30: Travelled all day in Nebraska and arrived at Creighton at 6 and at T.M. Clarks at 8 P.M.
  •  2Wed Oct 01: Staid all day at Clarks. Rainy & cold.
  •  2Thu Oct 02: Went to the fair at Creighton.
  •  2Fri Oct 03: Ida went to the Fair. I staid at Clarks.
  •  2Sat Oct 04: Staid all day at Clarks Ranch.
  •  2Sun Oct 05: Staid at Clarks in the P.M. & rode out in the P.M.
  •  2Mon Oct 06: Spent the day at Clarks and watching a threshing machine.
  •  2Tue Oct 07: Staid at Clarks Ranch all day.
  •  2Wed Oct 08: Went to Bazile Mills. Cold, had a frost.
  •  2Thu Oct 09: Had frost this A.M.
  •  2Fri Oct 10: Picked up potatos.
  •  2Sat Oct 11: Picked up potatos & picked corn.
  •  2Sun Oct 12: Went to the Indian Res. to Church. Had a picknick day.
  •  2Mon Oct 13: Helped haul a load of corn & kill a hog. Also went after a load of wood. Warm pleasant weather.
  •  2Tue Oct 14: Spent this week at Clarks.
  •  2Wed Oct 15: No entry.
