E.A. took the entire family to Factoryville for several months. The family include Pearl aged 7 and Nettie aged 4. There are no diary records of the farm during their trip. All of the diary records are from the trip. On September 15th they left LaPlume headed to Ida's family in LeClaire, Iowa for 2 weeks. They then went to Nebraska to visit Ida's sister Ellen Clark. They left Creighton, Nebraska for home via St. Paul on October 24th arriving home in La Conner on November 1, 1884.
2Tue Mar 11: Started East at 3 oclock in the morning. Had a rough day. Folks all seasick. Got to Seattle at 3 P.M. & started for Tacoma and around at 7 P.M.
2Wed Mar 12: Went to Portland today. arrived at 4 P.M. Went to the Quimby House.
2Thu Mar 13: Staid all day in Portland.
2Fri Mar 14: Started from Portland at 1 o'clock and travelled all night.
2Sat Mar 15: Travelled from Umatilla to Spokane Falls. Our baggage was put on the Express today.
2Sun Mar 16: Travelling all day through Montana. Was at Missoula at 2 P.M.
2Mon Mar 17: Traveling through Mont. and Dakota.
2Tue Mar 18: Still going in Dakota.
2Wed Mar 19: Went through Minn. and arrived in St. Paul at 7:30 PM. Went to the Sherman house and staid all night.
2Thu Mar 20: Started from St. Paul at 12:45 P.M. Travelled all day & all night.
2Fri Mar 21: Arrived in Chicago this morning Early and took Breakfast. Started at 8.50 for Buffalo.
2Sat Mar 22: Got in Buffalo at 3.50 and left again at 8.40 and arrived in LaPlume at 7.25 P.M. took supper at Holgates and got home at 8 P.M.
2Sun Mar 23: Staid in the house all day. It was a rainy day. Did lots of talking &c.
2Mon Mar 24: Saw George this P.M. on his return from Scranton.
2Tue Mar 25: Pleasant day went down to LaPlume. Saw the improvements then went to George Baileys. Father went to Scranton.
2Wed Mar 26: Staid at home in the A.M. & went down to Factoryville in the P.M. Saw Aunt & Grandma also Grandpa Green & some other folks. Clowdy.
2Thu Mar 27: Staid at home all day. Uncle Byron was here and Holgates folks in the P.M.
2Fri Mar 28: Went with George to Dalton in the morning. Staid about home in the P.M.
2Sat Mar 29: Went to the saw mill in the A.M. Did not do much in the balance of the day.

Thu Feb 14: Went to the Ridge in the P.M. to see Shuster(?). He is to deliver me 5 cord of ditching timber. Ready for the ditch. Sold Mr Cook 2 1/2 tons of hay yesterday.
Fri Feb 15: Cool & pleasant. Ida went to LaConner with Whitneys.
Sat Feb 16: Went up to my timber ranch with Peter to help him split rails. Weather cool, ground covered with snow and frozen.
Sun Feb 17: Cold blustering weather. Whitneys folks and Aunt Lou were up here calling and we went down there in the evening. This has been the coldest Feb since we have lived in this country and the coldest winter since 74 & 5.
Mon Feb 18: Snow again till last night. Ed & Mary was here & the Wallace boys from California. Ida went to town with Ed Stacey to get teeth fixed.
Tue Feb 19: Colder heavy North East snow storm.
Wed Feb 20: Thermometer down to 10 this morning. Snow 10 in deep and drifted some. Snowing again in the afternoon.
Thu Feb 21: Warmer today. But the slough is frozen up. So I could not go to LaConner. Snow melting some. I am reading "Foot Print of Time". Ida came home this eve.
Fri Feb 22: Sold Callahan 20 acres of timber land. Snow went off to day. Not doing much.
Sat Feb 23: Rainy day not doing much. Went to the wood with Peter to make rails

Thu Dec 11: The children were taken with scarlet fever. Cold weather. Right side remedy for Croup Membranous
Fri Dec 12: Up with the children most of last night. Had Dr. Calhoun. Mercury down to 22° this A.M. Worked on dyke in the P.M.
Sat Dec 13: Went to town and came home on the Merwin. Got a stove. Snowing some to day.
Sun Dec 14: Snowing hard to day. Old Prince got cash today.
Mon Dec 15: Mercury to 16° this A.M. Snow 7 inches deep. Aunt Lou & Mr Butters went to town on a sled. The schooner Lake at Whitneys for hay. Jenne sold his grain at 17.25 per ton on the 13th to Crosby. C & S. sold a week ago for $16.25 and have paid $3.00 of the rails.
