Tue Jan 01: Papa, Aunt Lou and myself went down to the camp this morning and got some wood. Took our dinner in the woods by a fire. Came home about 1/2 past 2 o'clock had a very pleasant time. [margin: Very pleasant.]
Wed Jan 02: Papa still cutting wood at the camp. Whitney's men left today. [margin: Pleasant.]

Sat Jan 05: Edgar working on the kitchen. Aunt Lou came up again this morn to help with the work while mother was away. W came home at noon. Dr. Maggs with him.
Sun Jan 06: All stayed at home until late in the P.M. then went down to Whitney's and spent part of the eve. [margin: Very pretty day.]

Tue Jan 08: Trying to rain. Edgar and I in pursuit of water. Fearing the rain might blow over. Wet up the slough towards Balls but the tide being too high did not get any. Wed Jan 09: Edgar finished the pen. In the A.M. cut wood and tinkered around in the P.M. Baby Pearl is 7 months old today. [margin: Raining in showers.]

Wed Jul 03: Worked for W. 9 hours on tool shed &c. Filed a saw for Allen in the morning.
Thu Jul 04: Started in for hoeing corn. Harry & Julia & Ed Stacey east dinner here. Went down to Aunt Lou's in the P.M. Eat supper at Mrs. Upson's. Worked in the blacksmith shop some making gate fixtures for myself. Whitney went to Fidalgo as usual.
Fri Jul 05: Made a Bedstead for W. in the morning. Then set a gate post for myself. Went to the woods for timbe in the P.M. with Ed Stacey for shed. Worked for W 7 hours. Harris had a boy born.
Sat Jul 06: Worked for W 10 hours on machine shed. Is very warm & dry.
Sun Jul 07: Look over the grain fields in the A.M. Upsons came home this morning. Mr. Stewart with him. Mrs. Tade preached at Whitneys in the P.M.

Sun Nov 03: Staid at home all day and read most of the time. Whitney was up in the afternoon.
Mon Nov 04: Worked on the box in the A.M. and staid in the house in the P.M. Rained hard in the P.M. Went down and settled with Whitney in the evening.

Sat Nov 09: Did not do much in the A.M. Went to school meeting in the A.M. Had a very poor attendance. Elected two new directors.

Sun Dec 15: Went down to Whitneys in the A.M. to sing some. Staid at home the balance of the day. Ed went to LaConner. [margin: Ed working 1/2 day.]
Mon Dec 16: Working on the Allen 80 ditching. Frosty but warmer. Barry Kruse & J. H. Taylor were here in the P.M. [margin: Ed worked 1/2 day.]
Tue Dec 17: Ditching until night as yesterday on the Allen 80. Barry Kruse here as yesterday. I did not go his bail. [margin: Ed worked.]
Wed Dec 18: Working on the Allen 80 ditch. Finished it to the lake. In the P.M. did not do anything only go down to Whitney's. [margin: Ed worked 1/2 day.]
Thu Dec 19: Went to LaConner with Whitney. Staid all night with McGlinn. Attended the LaConner Debate. Cold.
Fri Dec 20: Came home with Dr. Power and made baskets in the P.M. Pleasant. [margin: Ed worked 1/2 day.]
Sat Dec 21: Worked with John Ball on the dyke topping it out. Whitney came home from LaConner in the P.M. Went down to Whitneys to practice pieces in the evening. Clear & pleasant.
Sun Dec 22: Staid in Padilla all day. Was down to Whitneys in the P.M. Pleasant weather.
Mon Dec 23: Worked on the dyke in the A.M. with John Ball topping out dyke. In the P.M. went down to Whitneys to build the chimney on the Hall. Did not get it done. Cold with north wind. Whitney went to LaConner.
Tue Dec 24: Went down to Whitneys in the A.M. working on the Hall chimney. In the P.M. was getting ready for the Christmas Pieces.
Wed Dec 25: Very pleasant weather. Was up all night last at the Wiggan show &c. Came home at 9:30 & went to bed till one o'clock. Felt a considerable sleepy, &c. [margin: Mercury due to 25.]
Thu Dec 26: In the forenoon help load the steamer Fanny Lake with barley and in the P.M. killed the black pig. Went down to Mr. Upsons in the evening to a party. Hard a nice time. Got home just after midnight. [margin: Cold. Mercury at 25.]
Fri Dec 27: In the A.M. fixed up a shelf for Ida and ground up my plains, got some lumber for a secretary. Ed went over to Mr Best. In the P.M. was down to Whitneys settling up accts.
Sat Dec 28: Began work on my secretary dressing lumber and putting out stuff for it. Ed over to Fidalgo Pt. Clear & cold. Goe Neville was here.

Mon Dec 30: Worked on my secretary. Was making doors, &c.
Tue Dec 31: Worked on secretary doors some and part of the time on brackets. Had company in the evening to watch with old year out. Had supper at ten o'clock.
Wed Jan 01: Got up at 8 A.M. rather late to begin this New Year. Did not do much except take a horse back ride. Went to the Ridge & called on McK???? folks.
Thu Jan 02: Cold as usual. Made picture frames most all day, Ed and I went up to the woods in the morning and got a load of bark. Mr. Gilkie was here in the eve and staid all night.
Fri Jan 03: Filed a saw for Whitney in the morning and worked on my secretacy the balance of the day. Whitney got home LaConner this eve. [margin: Cold.]
Sat Jan 04: Worked on secretary most of the day. Clean & cold. Went to Literary in the evening. Had a good turn out.
Sun Jan 05: Staid at home all day. Reading & writing some. Gave Ed Stacey note of $30.00 for cow interest 12 pcnt.
Mon Jan 06: Worked on secretary most of the day. Cold as usual
Tue Jan 07: Went to LaConner and tried to settle up with Gaches but he had no money. Got home at 4 P.M.
Wed Jan 08: Worked in the ????? on secretary ????ing it. making & varnishing picture frames &c. Ed hunting killed 10 ducks & 2 geese. [margin: Snow this morning. Rainy.]
Thu Jan 09: In the A.M. helped Whitney load barley. In the P.M. worked on my aquarium. Mandy Upson sick.
Fri Jan 10: Worked on aquarium in the A.M. and in the P.M. split posts for here yard. Very hard wind. Ed went to LaConner.
Sat Jan 11: Little snow this morning. Worked in the hen yard all day. Began putting on the pickets. McKown start after his hay.
Sun Jan 12: Staid at home in the fore noon and in the P.M. went down to Whitneys. Whitney up here in the morning. Warmer.
Mon Jan 13: Stormy some. Put a few pickets on the chicken yard. [margin: Snow.]
Tue Jan 14: Finished the chicken yard. Cold and frosty this morning. [margin: Snow.]
Wed Jan 15: Mr Clark eat dinner here today. In the A.M. staid around home and hung an ax and got ready to go to the woods. In the P.M. went up to the woods & cut down a tree for rails. McKown came with the beef just dark. [margin: Snow.]
Thu Jan 16: Cut up and took care of the beef in the A.M. and helped Jones fix up Trimbles old boat after dinner. Cold & stormy.
Fri Jan 17: Snow last night as usual. Went up to the woods. Made a hundred rails and cut another cedar. Lots of snow in the woods. Went to Literary in the evening.
Sat Jan 18: Satid in the house all day did not do anything. Cold, Windy & Rainy.
Sun Jan 19: Staid at home all day. Went down to Whitneys just night. Lisle Wallace was here all day.
Mon Jan 20: Went up to the timber and made rails & pickets.
Tue Jan 21: Making rails as usual. Al & Martha came down this P.M. [margin: Rain last night.]
Wed Jan 22: Al went home this morning. Making rails as usual. Rain in the P.M. Have 815 12 ft rails to date.
