Tue Dec 22: W. & Wife went to Whatcom today on the steamer. T brought the hog home from Calhouns. S. dug ditch.
Wed Dec 23: T. & S. ditch down on the Siegfred's line.
Thu Dec 24: T. & S. went to Whatcom. Started at 11 oclock.and arrived at 5 P.M. Rained most all day. Had a fair wind part of the day. All went to Linder's Ball in the evening and stat all night at the Whatcom House.
Fri Dec 25: Christmas. Spent the day pleasantly and took dinner with Mr. Allen's folks at Mr. Jordan's. [margin: very pleasant day.]
Sat Dec 26: All went to Mr. Eldridge's and took dinner & spent the eve. Had a good time.
Sun Dec 27: Spent the day in various places and all spent the eve at McNutts house.
Mon Dec 28: Attended the Whatcom Grange. Went to Eldridge and got some seedling trees. Took dinner at Mrs. Smiths and went to a party at Mr. Jordan in the eve.
Tue Dec 29: All went over to Sehome and took dinner with Dr. Barrow's folks. Went to the wharf and saw the Germania land. Spent the eve at the Doctors' and then to births on the steamer Libby.
Wed Dec 30: Reached Fidalgo at daylight and took breakfast with Mr. Best's folks. Then started for home where we arrived a little after noon. S. went to Balls after the mail.
Thu Dec 31: Staid around home all day, and didn't do much of anything. Clowdy day, we're getting ready for New Year's.
January 1875
Fri Jan 01: All went to the party at LaConner for the benefit of Everet(?). Very unpleasant day rained most all day and it was also very windy.
Sat Jan 02: Came home just after dinner. Had aa nice sail home. rained some. Did not do anything for the rest of the day.
Sun Jan 03: Very sleepy day. Nothing transpired worth recording. Ball's pigs are very troublesome.
Mon Jan 04: Rain most all day did not do much but sit around the house. W. worked at his accounts. [margin: Rain 6 hours]

Mon Nov 15: T. hauled straw and covered the bats in the fore noon and went to the station in the afternoon. S. worked on the road to the barn.
Tue Nov 16: S. worked on the road to the barn some. W. & family came home from Olympia. [margin: Snow 4 inches deep and cold.]
Wed Nov 17: S. & T. worked around the barn and in the afternoon killed billy's calf. W. cleaned home. [margin: Very muddy & strong(?)]
Thu Nov 18: T. & S. went down and wheeled mud on the bridge across Allen slough. Afternoon worked around the barn. T. pulled bats [margin: Snowed in A.M.]
Fri Nov 19: S. made a cow stable and in the afternoon made a keg of kraut. T. hauled manure on the road to barn and hauled cabbage. McNutt came up from the station and took dinner with us. W. was cleaning house. [margin: Froze quite hard last night. Snow 2 inches deep.]
Sat Nov 20: S. sawed wood. W. worked in the house. T. was covering mangolds with dirt.
Sun Nov 21: All staid at home all day. Mr. Ball took dinner with us. [margin: Raining most of the day.]
Mon Nov 22: Stand(?) up the Allen cow and commenced to feed her for beef. T. worked around the barn. S. sawing stove wood. W. started for Whatcom via LaConner.
Tue Nov 23: S. sawing wood. T. hauled two loads of wood and hauled beets in P.M.
Wed Nov 24: S. cut wood and peeled bark. T. hauled mangolds and wood. Quite cold & frosty.
Thu Nov 25: T. & S. worked on the road, also Jake & Trimble grading down the back out by the corner of McCollum claim. [margin: Whitney got back from Whatcom.]
Fri Nov 26: W. worked on the road. T. & S. worked on the bank cleaning away logs for a road to the barn. In the P.M. started for Fidalgo to attend a party. [margin: Ground froze hard this morn. Clear & pleasant.]
Sat Nov 27: S. & T. at Fidalgo. W. did odd jobs. Snowed.
Sun Nov 28: Still snowing. T came home just night. S. went deer hunting.
Mon Nov 29: Rained hard in the night and nearly all fore noon. W. & T. worked on the road at barn.
Tue Nov 30: W. T. & S. went to the Grange held in Martin's store. S. & T. came home. W. staid down to got to Culver's. Very warm & spring like. [margin: Rain last night.]
December 1875
Wed Dec 01: T. & S. worked on the road down the bank. Whitney came home in the afternoon. Mrs. Ball came down in the P.M. [margin: High tide this morn.]
Thu Dec 02: T. worked on the bank road. W. & S. worked in the show some and took roof off the old root house and the floor out of the old shake barn to make a hog pen. T. graded sloughs down by Cultis Slough in the P.M. [margin: Rainy some.]
Fri Dec 03: T. worked around the house and on the road. W. & S. graded sloughs all day. The wind blew hard all night & day.
Sat Dec 04: S. & S. worked down on the Preemption grading sloughs. T. hauled stuff to build a hog pen. Went down to fix the Cultis slough box at night but could not the tide was in. [margin: Windy & Raining.]
Sun Dec 05: Rainy clowdy Sunday. T. & Guss went horse back riding to Balls. the rest staid home all day. [margin: Froze some last night. ]

Tue Dec 07: W. & S. graded slough. T. went to Whatcom to Mrs. Andrews reception. L. S. Andrews & Sarah Allen married.
Wed Dec 08: W. & S. graded sloughs. T. came back in evening. W. & S. went down to fix the "cultis" slough box in the eve. [margin: Rainy by spells.]
Thu Dec 09: All graded sloughs. Warm & wet.
Fri Dec 10: Dito Yesterday. Ball's last load of grain went out to the schooner to day.
Sat Dec 11: All graded sloughs down by the preemption house. S. went to Ball's in the eve. [margin: very pleasant day.]
Sun Dec 12: Rainy. W. went to LaConner. S. to Pleasant Ridge. Guss & T. staid at home.
Mon Dec 13: W. & S. were at LaConner. T at home. Pleasant day.
Tue Dec 14: W. & S. came home from LaConner at noon. [margin: Hard rain last night.]
Wed Dec 15: All graded slough on the Allen "80". [margin: Pleasant day.]
Thu Dec 16: Graded sloughs as usual. Frost.
Fri Dec 17: Graded sloughs on the Allen "eighty".
Sat Dec 18: W. had a boil. Did not work. S. & T. worked around the shop and split wood. [margin: Rainy in the fore noon.]
Sun Dec 19: Rainy & Clowdy. Spent the day reading & writing.
Mon Dec 20: Rainy. Ball came down and we kill the old Cow. "Allens Cow" Dressed 684. Cut wood in the fore noon.
Tue Dec 21: W. went to the station. S. & T. packed meat. cut wood, graded sloughs, &c. [margin: Rainy in A.M.]
Wed Dec 22: W. came home from the station in the P.M. S. & T. graded sloughs on the Allen "80".
Thu Dec 23: All graded slough in forenoon. S. drove stakes near Balls a land - of the time. A little after noon the Skagit being very high broke through over Balls dyke in two or three places and begun to flood us. We piled up all our rails on a mile of fence that was to be so the water would not sealthe(?) them. Indian slough was not bank full at the preemption though the water must have been nearly three feet deep at McNutts old place.
Fri Dec 24: The Skagit is going down quite rapidly - Water on the ranch from 1 ft to 18 inches. T. & W. helped Ball kill hogs - 11 hd in about 4 1/2 hours w 5 of us- Sisson started for station.
Sat Dec 25: T. & W. wife & boys went to Balls for Christmas dinner, went horse back - Skagit clear down and water running out of holes in dyke. [margin: Albert Leamer & Martha Hancock married.]
Sun Dec 26: Water still lowering inside dyke. [margin: Rain.]
Mon Dec 27: Rainy. W. & T. choring around. S. at the station.
Tue Dec 28: S. at the station, W. & T. moving blacksmith shop.
Wed Dec 29: Cut wood and worked in the shop some. [margin: High tide. ]

Fri Dec 31: Very hard wind all last night & rain. W. & T. dug ditch on the Allen "80". N.W. gale & rain in the afternoon. S. sawed wood and pin timber. [margin: Heavy rain last night.]
Sat Jan 01: T. oiled harness. W. & S. made pin, sawed wood, & worked on the shop.
Sun Jan 02: All staid at home. Mr D'Arcys folks, Mrs. Ball, Arthur & Clarence White were here to dinner.
Mon Jan 03: All hands went to the Grand Ball at LaConner. Rained part of the way there and we got pretty wet. Had a good time. [margin: Rainy.]
Tue Jan 04: Arrived home from Ball at noon. Feeling pretty sleepy.
Wed Jan 05: All went down on Allen's line ditching, it is pretty wet. Went down to fix the box by the warehouse at 12 midnight. Too much tide.
Thu Jan 06: Ditching the same as yesterday. Went & fixed the box at 9 oclock. [margin: Cold & Rainy]
Fri Jan 07: Vinz packed the meat over. W. & S. ditching on South "80". T. working on the road. Ditching. Nice day.
Sat Jan 08: Ditching the same as yesterday. [margin: Pleasant day.]
Sun Jan 09: All staid at home. S. went around the dyke and found the "50 ft" slough box open. Went down and fixed it at night. Ball call in the P.M. Am reading "We and our Night on's" [margin: Clear & Frosty night]
Mon Jan 10: S. worked on the road 1/2 day, cutting tree our of the road and sawed word the balance of the day. T. hauled wood. W. worked about the house in the A.M. and went to LaConner in the P.M. [margin: clear & cold]
Tue Jan 11: S. sawed wood and made shakes in the P.M. T. Hauled mangolds. W. at LaConner. [margin: Mercury at 29°]
Wed Jan 12: S. made shakes. T. hauled rails & wood. W. at LaConner.
Thu Jan 13: S. made shakes. Have 800 made. W. & T. dug ditch. T on the road. S. & T. went to Fidalgo Island staid all night at Mr. Bests house. [margin: Clear & pleasant.]
Fri Jan 14: S. & T. went to Whites and then over to Graham's deer hunting. W. done chores, was writing &c. [margin: Rain.]
Sat Jan 15: S. & T. at Graham's. W. dug ditch.
Sun Jan 16: S. & T. came over to Sully's and staid all night at White's.
Mon Jan 17: T. & S. got home at noon. W. dug ditch in the AM. T. worked on road ditching in P.M. and W. & S. were on the Parish claim dyking.
Tue Jan 18: W. & S. worked ditching. In the P.M. worked down on the Parish chain dyking. T. worked on the road. [margin: Mrs. & Miss Leamer came down with Highbarger. Snowed all day.]
Wed Jan 19: S. made pin for fence. W. worked in shop making pins &c. T. oiled harness. Keany(?) was here; his boat was wrecked last night or rather the cargo lost.
Thu Jan 20: W. & S. worked on the Parrish claim. T. worked on the road.
Fri Jan 21: All worked on the Parrish claim dyking. Very cold & disagreeable weather for dyking.
