Thu Dec 25: This is Christmas in some places. W. fired trees, filed saws, &c. T. & S. went down to McNutt's to get timber for an ox yoke. "never done it" Very pleasant.

After dinner W. worked about the house. T. & S. went after a scow load of stones and picked up scattering lumber. McNutts ox died this morning. All went down to the slough in the evening and put stones on the box apron.
Sun Jan 18: Tide nearly three feet over the marsh this morning. McClellan's dyke, Siegfried's dike and the two largest sloughs went out and our farm is covered with salt water. Lumber lost and scow also, etc. etc. Spent the day looking after lost lumber.
Mon Jan 19: W. went to Ben Welches after the boat. T. & S. went to McClellan's and got his boat and picked up lumber in the fore noon. W. & S. cut wood in the after noon. T. dug ditch in the garden.
Tue Jan 20: Worked in the shop. T dug ditch. S. went to McNutt's after the mail at night.

Fri May 15: All got up at 3 A.M. and went to the Samish flats after lumber. Went over and saw the Samish river and Mr. Miller's place. W. was sick. Got the scow as far as Siegfreds and came home at 8 oclock.
Sat May 16: T. worked on the road down by the lagoon. S. worked on fence and made a gate. W. worked in the garden & put cap rail on the fence. Went up to Siegfreds and run the scow of lumber home at night.
Sun May 17: All but Sisson went to Dog Island. He went up to McNutts & Smith's. pleasant day.
Mon May 18: Began work on the dams. Filled the hole in the lagoon and dug the box out of the big slough. The tide was so high we could not make a R.R. got home at 8:30 P.M. Matson began work. [margin: Tide 6 in over the marsh.]

Sat Nov 07: W. worked in the shop & split wood. T. split wood. S. cut wood & made an ax handle. All went down and made a foundation for warehouse in afternoon. Strong S.W. wind. [margin: Rain 4]
Sun Nov 08: Very windy day. T. & S. went up to Mr Balls. Nothing else of importance occurred.
Mon Nov 09: W. & S. worked on the house in forenoon, and in the shop in the afternoon cutting wood and made ax handles, &c. Harry came and staid all night from Whatcom.

Tue Nov 10: Very pleasant day. Hard frost last night. All went to LaConner to attend the Grange. Staid all night.
Wed Nov 11: Cut wood in the fore noon. T. worked on the middle lagoon, S. & W. worked on the warehouse. Putting on roof boards, &c. [margin: Rain 1/2 day]
Thu Nov 12: Cut wood in the fore noon. In the afternoon W. & S. worked on warehouse. Shingled it. T. Hauled a load of cabbage for crout, &c. [margin: Fine rain most all day.]
Fri Nov 13: T. hauled wood and a load of shakes for the boat house. W. & S. worked on the ware house & boat house. Harry staid all night with us and went to LaConner this morning. [margin: 4 hours R, Tide 8 in over marsh]
Sat Nov 14: All worked on the root house down by the barn, got all the logs out and rained. Tide over the marsh.
Sun Nov 15: Staid at home all day. Mr. Allen's folks were in the neighborhood and staid all night. Mr. & Mrs. Ball slso McClellan called in the afternoon. S. has toothache some. pleasant day.
Mon Nov 16: Very pleasant day. Wind in the north. T. worked on the road putting up a bridge up towards Balls. S. & W. worked on the root house down by the barn.
Tue Nov 17: T. & S. hauled dirt and put in the root house down by the barn. Afternoon Got poles for the one by the house. W. went down by the bridge to work grading. [margin: Hard frost]
Wed Nov 18: Finished the root house and began No. 2. T. hauled beets from the upper garden. [margin: hard frost]
Thu Nov 19: T. hauled beets. W. & S. worked on the root house. Got the walls all done. [margin: Hard frost clear days]
Fri Nov 20: S. hauled potatos and W. & S. finished the root house. McClellan was here to get a spade to fix his sluice box. [margin: frost]

Sun Nov 22: Stormy all day. Snow & rain. Spent most of the day writing letters. guss went up to Mr Balls in the afternoon. [margin: First snow 1/2 inch]
Mon Nov 23: W. spent the day writing(?) and S. cut wood. In the afternoon went down and unloaded the scow and took the water out. S. went around the dyke. T. hauled two loads of roots from the garden. [margin:Rainy all day. Tide 2 feet over marsh.]
Tue Nov 24: W. & T. went to the Grange, but wheeled mud a little on the lagoon in the morning. S. wheeled mud topped out dyke all day. [margin: tide 18 in.]
Wed Nov 25: Strong N.W. gale this morning from 6 A.M. till 8. and a hard surf on the dyke. Did not break but was damaged in several places. W. & T. came down from the station in the afternoon and we worked till night on the big dams. Put lumber and wheeling mud. McNutt helped in the afternoon. Ball and McClellan hauled a load of brush.
Thu Nov 26: S. & T. went to the station with scow and staid to the Dance in the eve. W. & McNutt worked some on the lagoon. [margin: tides on marsh, Rain 6 hours.]

Fri Nov 27: T. & S. started from the station with scow load of oats from Highbarger. Got down about noon. Whitney & Guss came home in boat. Unloaded the oats in the afternoon. [margin: rain 1/2 day]
Sat Nov 28: T. hauled down a load of poles for the scow and took up the apples. In the afternoon hauled a load of parsnips. McNutt & Whitney worked on the dyke. S. worked on dyke in the fore noon and in afternoon fixed steps to the warehouse. [margin: tide on marsh 8 in.]
Sun Nov 29: Very quite sunny Sunday. Nobody here. S. went up to Trimbles.
Mon Nov 30: Worked in the shop cur wood and all worked on the dyke in the afternoon. The marsh is freshening fast now. [margin: Rain 4 hs]

Tue Dec 01: Trimble & Baxter went to the station. W. & T. wheeled mud. S. & McNutt went up to his place and got a load of posts.
Wed Dec 02: Worked on the dam driving posts and wheeling. W. worked on mirroe & shelves some. S. on picture frame. T. cut wood. Tides not very high. [margin: Rain 5 hs]

Fri Dec 11: Whitney spent the day writing. T. cleaning seeds. S. worked in the shop making picture frame &c. Cut wood some towards night. [margin: Rain all day]

Tue Dec 22: W. & Wife went to Whatcom today on the steamer. T brought the hog home from Calhouns. S. dug ditch.
Wed Dec 23: T. & S. ditch down on the Siegfred's line.
Thu Dec 24: T. & S. went to Whatcom. Started at 11 oclock.and arrived at 5 P.M. Rained most all day. Had a fair wind part of the day. All went to Linder's Ball in the evening and stat all night at the Whatcom House.
Fri Dec 25: Christmas. Spent the day pleasantly and took dinner with Mr. Allen's folks at Mr. Jordan's. [margin: very pleasant day.]
Sat Dec 26: All went to Mr. Eldridge's and took dinner & spent the eve. Had a good time.
Sun Dec 27: Spent the day in various places and all spent the eve at McNutts house.
Mon Dec 28: Attended the Whatcom Grange. Went to Eldridge and got some seedling trees. Took dinner at Mrs. Smiths and went to a party at Mr. Jordan in the eve.
Tue Dec 29: All went over to Sehome and took dinner with Dr. Barrow's folks. Went to the wharf and saw the Germania land. Spent the eve at the Doctors' and then to births on the steamer Libby.
Wed Dec 30: Reached Fidalgo at daylight and took breakfast with Mr. Best's folks. Then started for home where we arrived a little after noon. S. went to Balls after the mail.
Thu Dec 31: Staid around home all day, and didn't do much of anything. Clowdy day, we're getting ready for New Year's.
Fri Jan 01: All went to the party at LaConner for the benefit of Everet(?). Very unpleasant day rained most all day and it was also very windy.
Sat Jan 02: Came home just after dinner. Had aa nice sail home. rained some. Did not do anything for the rest of the day.
Sun Jan 03: Very sleepy day. Nothing transpired worth recording. Ball's pigs are very troublesome.
Mon Jan 04: Rain most all day did not do much but sit around the house. W. worked at his accounts. [margin: Rain 6 hours]
Tue Jan 05: Went to the Grange at LaConner. Staid all night and went to the Good Templars in the eve. Very pleasant. [margin: Cold & frosty]
