1Fri Nov 22: Pack my trunk in the fore noon and then went up to McAlpines. After noon went to town and stopped at Uncle Stephens. Went to Ninks party in the eve, home with Briggs.
1Sat Nov 23: Went to Scanton this morning and got my ticket a woolen and some other things. Came up to Factoryville and then home.
1Sun Nov 24: Went to church today. A.M. Briggs came home with us to dinner. Went to church in the evening. This is my last day at home for some time-- One year at least.
1Mon Nov 25: Got up and got ready for a start. Left home at 10:30 out to Factoryville, took the after noon train for Buffalo and arrived a little after mid night. Went to City Hotel and rest up
1Tue Nov 26: Went from Buffalo to Niagra Falls distance 25 miles. Crossed suspension Bridge. Came back to Buffalo at 2 o'clock and there spent the rest of the day. Went to Mr Fitch's lecture on the west.
1Wed Nov 27: Started for Toledo by Lake shore RR at 3 o'clock this morning. Reached Cleveland about day light. Left Toledo about noon and then travelled all night. Through Indiana and Illinois
1Thu Nov 28: Daylight found us in Springfield, Illinois. Reached Quincy little after noon. and staid back few minutes. Started for St Jo reached there at half past nine. Went to bed at the Pacific Hotel.
1Fri Nov 29: Got up at three o'clock and took the St Jo and C.B.B.R. Reached C.B. at nine o'clock. took breakfast and crossed over and got on car No 34 Union Pacific. Got supplys and started at 1.20 CT Mercury 18.
1Sat Nov 30: Rode on that cars all day through Nebraska and Wyoming Territory. was most sick bad cold and stomach ache.
1Sun Dec 01: Very clear pleasant day travelled all day from Green River to Ogden. Was not very well. Reached Ogden a little after dark and changed cars for Salt Lake - reached there at 8 P.M. Went to Hotel.
1Mon Dec 02: Got up in Salt Lake City Great Western Hotel. Took breakfast and got shaved and started sight seeing. Went around St L. C. till about noon. Wrote two letters and started for Ogden about 3 o'clock. Around town all night and start out Pacific Slope after day.
1Tue Dec 03: Travelled all last night and all day. Through Nevada and Utah. Did not see anything of particular interest. Wallace in Woodward's Gardens Art Gallery, San Francisco.
1Wed Dec 04: Woke in middle Sierra Nevada Mts. Saw some nice scenery -- 35 miles snow Sheds- Arrived in San Francisco at 9 P.M. Went to US International Hotel warm pleasant.
1Thu Dec 05: This is a fine May day in December. Spent the day sight seeing in San Francisco. Went to Woodwards Gardens and some other places. Went to theatre in evening. Bought tickets for Victoria. San Francisco is a terrible rought place.
1Fri Dec 06: Got up and went to Folsom St Wharf San Francisco. Saw the "Idaho" She looks like a poor stick. Mailed a letter home & some stereoscopic views. Set sail for Victoria at 4:30 P.M. Weather's fine.
1Sat Dec 07: Spent the day on the Pacific - was sea sick some. did not vomit yet- Did not eat much of any thing. Saw some heave Jonah and others try to. Quite pleasant but foggy some & rough seas.
1Sun Dec 08: Was a little sea sick this morning as usual. Had a ???? today. Very lonesome Sunday on the Idaho. Saw but little land and a good deal of rough sea. "Was not scared but considerably agitated." Weather windy.
1Mon Dec 09: Weather cooler today. Passed Columbia river bar today. Saw some rough breakers and very rough sea. Ship rolled fearfully. Colder. Saw a good many ducks.
1Tue Dec 10: Was inside the straights this morning. Took one last meal on the Idaho. Landed in Victoria at 9:30. Took steamer North Pacific for Olympia. Rode most all day and night.
1Wed Dec 11: Got up in Olympia this morning. Pleasant weather. A little frost. Took a walk over to Tumwater. Went and saw Mr Avery. Stopped at U.S. Tacoma House. In the evening went to the Good Templars reading room. To bed at 8 PM.
1Thu Dec 12: Got up and found it raining, cold and chilly. Not freezing cold. Rained a good share of the day. In the after noon went over in the woods and - exercised a little splitting wood. Spent the evening in Williams Store.
1Fri Dec 13: Got up at 8 AM and eat breakfast. Walked around town with Mr Carpenter some. Rained most all last night and some of today. The steamer California came in this morning. Went to Tacoma Lodge IOGT in evening.
1Sat Dec 14: Took the steamboat Zephyr for Seattle. Did not rain today. Quite cold & windy on the Sound. Arrived at Seattle at 4 P.M. Stopped at the US Hotel. Felt several shocks of an earth quake at 10 o'clock.
1Sun Dec 15: Quite cool and clear today. Pleasant for Pennsylvania. Went to the Baptist church this fore noon. Wrote two letter in after noon. Mother and Clara Green. Went to bed at 8 o'clock.
1Mon Dec 16: Got up at 5:30 got breakfast and took the steamer Libby for LaConner. This will be the last steam boat ride for a while. Staid on the boat all night on steamer Utsalady.
1Tue Dec 17: Arrived at LaConner at 6:30 this morning. Got some Indians to carry us to R.E.W.'s Ranch. Met them on the way. Spent the day talking & booking etc.

Mon Jan 01: Began this year in good earnst by chopping wood all day - had David Daily help me. Ed Leighton was married to day - I don't wish it was I instead - not any. Geo & Father worked for the Key Stone Academy.
Tue Jan 02: Spent this day as the preceding cutting sugar wood. This was one of the clearest days ever saw in January. Father went to Scranton to day for Key Stone Academy - I was tired after night came.
Wed Jan 03: In the morning went to Factoryville to move the stoves & piano of Keystone Academy- After move went and heard Dr. Bliss of Lewisburg - in the evening heard Dr Moss of Philadelphia- clowdy.

Thu Jan 04: This was one of the warmest days I ever experienced in winter - David Daily came up and we worked up to the woods. Drawed one load of leaves. Mr & Mrs Robb were up here visiting- Then went to meeting in the evening. Three s??? to this day.
Fri Jan 05: Staid to home all day. Drawed a load of leaves and put them on the strawberries. Made a hot bed sash. Aunt Eliza Gardner came up here and staid all night. Very mild weather.
Sat Jan 06: In the morning went up and took Jeremy up to see his buggy - Very cold and tedious. After noon worked in the shop making sash. Made one. Mr. White was up here. Father and Aunt & Mother went to Factoryville-
Sun Jan 07: Mercury down to 5° this morning - very cold all day. Went to Factoryville to church this morning, heard Elder Furman preach from Jude 3 verse - Did not go down in the evening - Geo went and staid down - Cut my leg with a knife just night.
Mon Jan 08: Staid around home all day - Mercury at 6°. Set up three hot bed sash to day. After noon went up and piled up the sugar wood. Prayer meeting every night this week - Our folks went. I did not.
Tue Jan 09: In the fore noon Father & I drew a load of wood for Grandpa. Worked in the shop some finished up two sash. Bill Schofee & I went up and got my buggie. Our folks went to prayer meeting in eve.

Sun Jan 14: Very cold this morning. Done the chores and got ready for church. like to froze going down. Isaac came home with us. Mercury at 7° at dark.
Mon Jan 15: A little warmer to day -- Chopped wood and done chores all day. A good way to spend time. Prof. Haines preached to night. We did not go. Rode my colt down and got the paper in the evening.

Thu Jan 18: Bill & Jerome were putting up ice to day. Helped them unload. Split wood some and tinkered around all day. Did not do much clear & cold &c &c. Our folks went to meeting in the evening.
Fri Jan 19: Gave Shaffer a check for one hundred & a note for $100.00 to pay for my buggie. Puttied in the glass in four of the hot bed sash. Fixed the horse stable some and tinkered around till eve. Stormed some at night.
Sat Jan 20: Warm & spring like all day. - In the fore noon Father & I harnessed up the colt and went to town to Deliver a straw cutter &c. After dinner went up and blasted wood with powder. Our folks went to the Carding Mill for wool.
Sun Jan 21: Warm & pleasant & windy. &c. Went to church this morning. Jerome Thomas went with me. Aunt Esther went with our folks. Came home and staid with Isaac. Uncle Byron came up this eve.

Sat Jan 27: Staid home all day tinkering around. Harnessed up the colts and went down on the flat and then went down to the shop and got the Bob sled. Staid to home in evening.

Fri Mar 01: Mercury down to 3° this morning. Cold all day. Father went to Scranton. I staid in the house all tending to a bad cold. Very poor prospect for hot beds and also sap. Soaked my feet & went to bed feeling very much under the weather.
Sat Mar 02: Staid in the house all day tending to my cold which was some better. Very cold as usual and no prospect of being warmer. Geo came home late at night after meeting.
Sun Mar 03: Staid to home to day as usual our folks went to meeting. clear & pleasant but rather cold no sap this last week. The Methodist meetings still continue to be interesting. 7 forward last night.

Tue Mar 26: Snowed about two inches last night. Mercury up to 45 after noon not quite warm enough for sap - Bill & I drove the colt side of ole Bill. He acted quite coltish. Went down to Exhibition(Keystone) [margin: Stormy night.]

Mon Apr 01: Cold again this morning. Cold wind all day, went down & opened Grandpa's cellar drain. Our folks all sick to day except Mother & myself. Hot bed is doing fine and must be transplanted soon.
Tue Apr 02: To mill & to get seed grains. Pleasant this morning I got Jerome and went up and gathered the sap. Got 7 barrels besides the ice which we throwed away. This is the best sap day of the season so far. Father was better but Georgie was not. [margin: Went to Factoryville at night.]

Wed Apr 03: Went up and gathered 16 barrels of sap. the boilers and put on boiled. Sap did not run much today. Geo was not much better. Went to Lodge in the evening.
Thu Apr 04: Went to mill in the morning drove the colts. Worked at hot bed no. 2 some and then went to the woods & dove off 11 gallons of molasses and finished boiling. Sap run very good.
Fri Apr 05: Transplanted 16 hundred tomato plants into hot bed no 2. Then went to the woods and gathered 16 barrels of sap. Boiled in evening and burnt on some. Jerome was with me. Geo was up to the woods. Folks went to McAlpines in evening.
Sat Apr 06: Today was a pretty good sap day and the warmest day in five months. Worked in the sugar works all day. Gathered 14 barrels of nice sap to day. Finished boiling Thursdays(?) sap. Looks like a storm. (61 barrels of sap)
Sun Apr 07: Staid to home all day and evening. It rained more or less most all day & was pretty warm. Isaac came up and staid. All our folks staid to home.
Mon Apr 08: Boiled sap all day and dome(?) off about 23 gallons of molasses. Filled Rockvelts bottles. Warm & Clowdy. Commenced transplanting cabbage plants. Geo. did not go to school. Was not quite well enough.

Wed Apr 10: Rained as usual this morning. Set out a few cabbage plants then got ready & went down to Uncle Stephens from there went to Scranton & heard Gough's Lecture. [margin: "The Lights and Shades of London Life"] Came up on the night train.
Thu Apr 11: Staid to home all day, worked in the garden most of the time transplanting tomatos, cabbage & cauliflower. Father went to Scranton with Rockvelt's Molasses.
Fri Apr 12: Set out tomatos all the fore noon. Did not do much in the evening or afternoon. Pardon's folks were over here visiting. McAlpine's folks were here evening. Geo came home at night.
Sat Apr 13: Father went to the academy meeting. Geo & I went out after the molasses. I trimmed one side of the hedge. Out folks went to meeting. Mother & I did not go. Wind broke 24 lights of glass.
Sun Apr 14: Went to church to day. Cold windy day - Had communion services today. Did not go to church in the evening. Cold & windy as usual.

Thu Apr 18: Watered the hot beds then went to the woods and gathered 11 barrels of sap. Boiled till night. Rained in the afternoon. Father came home today. Sap run some.
Fri Apr 19: Father & i gathered 11 barrels of sap and I boiled all day. Warm & pleasant. Went to Factoryville in the evening Millard had a Donation. I went a little while.
Sat Apr 20: Gathered 7 barrels of sapy and boiled all day took off 9 gallons of molasses(it was buddy)- Geo came home - Father west to Factoryville. Work till most nine oclock to syrup off.

Sun Apr 21: Very warm & pleasant went to church heard Elder Furman preach text "Search the Scriptures". Ribbie Moore, May Frear & Harry came up after meeting. Did not go to church in the evening.
Mon Apr 22: Cold again. Worked in the woods washing buckets and cleaning up the sugar works. Horace Gardiner came here to work. Pu some glass in the sash where the wind broke thru.
Tue Apr 23: Froze hard last night. 24° worked most all day on the old fence by the Hogpen. Went up and got the molasses and cleaned up the sugar works. White took 350 cabbage plants.
Wed Apr 24: Transplanted some tomatos for the second time. Planted a row of peas and some radishes. After dinner went down and plowed with my colt & done well. Went to Lodge in Eve. Warmer.
Thu Apr 25: Thermometer up to 80 in shade. Transplanted two beds of tomato plants and some lettuce. Plant three beds of cabbage seed. Elder Furman & Grandpa Green was up here. Our folks went to meeting.
Fri Apr 26: Uncovered strawberries and sowed some beets in the fore noon. Commenced plowing the the strawberry ground. After dinner sowed the oats on the flat and drove my colt to Factoryville to get shod. Mercury at 90° in the shade.

Sun Aug 11: Went to Sunday school & to church to Harris class and made a fizzle of it. Elder Finnegan preached. Vinzy was up here in the afternoon.

Mon Aug 19: In the fore noon pulled weeds & picked tomatos got 7 crates. After noon pulled weeds and put up a load to go to Scranton. Warm but not much rain.
Tue Aug 20: Started for Scranton at five o'clock. Took apples & tomatoes. Deposited 100 Dols in the Scranton Savings Bank. Dan Paterson rode up with me.
Wed Aug 21: Father helped Dan thresh. Staid around the house all day. Drawed up our oats. Had a shower about noon. Went down to Mr. Howe's to get a washer cutters- never done it. Picked up 5 bu cider apples.
Thu Aug 22: Went to the Cider Mill in the morning. Brought Grandma up and took her back again. Picked apples & tomatos had a very hard shower last night.
Fri Aug 23: Picked the rest of the tomatos & in the after noon dug 16 bushels of early rose potatos. Husked my little popcorn. Mother went to Factoryville. Warm as usual.
Sat Aug 24: Went to Scranton with tomatos, apples &c. Worked, very dull. Father went to fill the Br???. Dan went to Scranton also.

Tue Aug 27: Rained as usual in the morning. Worked in the fore noon at the strawberries. After noon dug the new potatos over to the barn has 22 bushels.
Wed Aug 28: Dug the early potatos. Father went to town with tomatos for Poulland. Went to Lodge in the evening. Had a good time.
Thu Aug 29: Worked in the strawberries some to day. Picked 11 crates of tomatos. Rained all the after noon as usual for this day of the week.
Fri Aug 30: Father went to Scranton with tomatos. I worked around in the fore noon. After noon went hunting. I shot a woodchuck & went down to Uncle Stephens. Cold & windy fall like. Father got a new harness.

Tue Sep 03: Went to Scranton with apples, tomatos & chickens. Bought my buggie pole. Our folks went to the S.S. Convention at Waverly. Cold and a frost in some places.
Wed Sep 04: Staid at home to day. Our folks to the Association at Waverly. I connected my aquarium and washed buggie, hoed strawberries, &c. [margin: Went to Lodge]

Tue Sep 10: Hoed strawberries most all day. Went to the Grant & Wilson mass meeting of F_____ in the evening.
Wed Sep 11: Picked up 13 bushels of cider apples & went to the mill got 42 gallons of cider. Hoed strawberries some. Dug some potatoes. Went to Lodge in the evening.

Tue Sep 17: Done nothing to day. Tinker around at little jobs. Made a short ladder and short apple picker. Put hooks on some whiffletrees and husked the pop corn. got three bushels [margin: of ears. Our folks went to Singing School.]

Sun Sep 22: Isaac & I went to church at Fleetville- then to Baptism, over to Manchester's then up to Aunt Hannahs to dinner. Came home about 8 o'clock. Had a good time. Very warm & pleasant

Wed Oct 02: Got up & done the chores and started to Scranton with at one has load of apples at 7 oclock. Some marked very poor sold for 40 & 50 cts. Went to Lodge in the evening.
Thu Oct 03: Picked apples some Spitzenburgs - Went to the depot with Nettie & Ida Howe. they went to Binghamton. Mr Dennmark came home with me. Warm & pleasant.
Fri Oct 04: Picked 4 BRs apples. Father dug the rest of the Peerless potatos. And I drawed them in the cellar. Had my aquarium morning. Went over on the hill and got my colt. Mother went visiting.
Sat Oct 05: In the morning went to Dalton & got my colt shod. Came home and in the after noon went & got some fish for my aquarium and got a bushel of Butternuts. Went to Factoryville in the evening drove the colts.

Mon Oct 14: The first snow storm. It melted as fast as it fell. Rained some and was a very inclement day. Did not do much.
Tue Oct 15: Picked up cider apples & took 35 bushels to the cider mill. Had the annual meeting up here. And all the old women came as usual. Emily Howe died today.
Wed Oct 16: Went down to the Depot to get coal, but it had not come. Picked 2 barrels of apples & drawed them up to Mr Baron. Went to Lodge in the eve. Had a good Lodger.
Thu Oct 17: Went to Emily Howe funeral. Acted as one of the bearers. In the after noon drawed two loads of coal from the Depot. Grandpa Green was up here. Rained at night.

Mon Oct 21: Went down in the orchard & picked up a loot of cider apples. Father took them to the mill. I cut a load of fire place wood. Went down to Uncle Stephen's and from there to the Keystone Lyceum.
Tue Oct 22: Drawed out the manure from the old hot beds - dug weeds out of strawberries some and that is about all. Pleasant day. warm.
Wed Oct 23: This was the most ge???ine rainy day of the season. Rained all day. Steady and windy too. Picked over & headed up apples all day. Did not go to Lodge.

1Sun Dec 01: Very clear pleasant day travelled all day from Green River to Ogden. Was not very well. Reached Ogden a little after dark and changed cars for Salt Lake - reached there at 8 P.M. Went to Hotel.
1Mon Dec 02: Got up in Salt Lake City Great Western Hotel. Took breakfast and got shaved and started sight seeing. Went around St L. C. till about noon. Wrote two letters and started for Ogden about 3 o'clock. Around town all night and start out Pacific Slope after day.
1Tue Dec 03: Travelled all last night and all day. Through Nevada and Utah. Did not see anything of particular interest. Wallace in Woodward's Gardens Art Gallery, San Francisco.
1Wed Dec 04: Woke in middle Sierra Nevada Mts. Saw some nice scenery -- 35 miles snow Sheds- Arrived in San Francisco at 9 P.M. Went to US International Hotel warm pleasant.

1Thu Dec 05: This is a fine May day in December. Spent the day sight seeing in San Francisco. Went to Woodwards Gardens and some other places. Went to theatre in evening. Bought tickets for Victoria. San Francisco is a terrible rought place.
1Fri Dec 06: Got up and went to Folsom St Wharf San Francisco. Saw the "Idaho" She looks like a poor stick. Mailed a letter home & some stereoscopic views. Set sail for Victoria at 4:30 P.M. Weather's fine.
1Sat Dec 07: Spent the day on the Pacific - was sea sick some. did not vomit yet- Did not eat much of any thing. Saw some heave Jonah and others try to. Quite pleasant but foggy some & rough seas.
1Sun Dec 08: Was a little sea sick this morning as usual. Had a ???? today. Very lonesome Sunday on the Idaho. Saw but little land and a good deal of rough sea. "Was not scared but considerably agitated." Weather windy.
1Mon Dec 09: Weather cooler today. Passed Columbia river bar today. Saw some rough breakers and very rough sea. Ship rolled fearfully. Colder. Saw a good many ducks.
1Tue Dec 10: Was inside the straights this morning. Took one last meal on the Idaho. Landed in Victoria at 9:30. Took steamer North Pacific for Olympia. Rode most all day and night.

1Fri Dec 13: Got up at 8 AM and eat breakfast. Walked around town with Mr Carpenter some. Rained most all last night and some of today. The steamer California came in this morning. Went to Tacoma Lodge IOGT in evening.
1Sat Dec 14: Took the steamboat Zephyr for Seattle. Did not rain today. Quite cold & windy on the Sound. Arrived at Seattle at 4 P.M. Stopped at the US Hotel. Felt several shocks of an earth quake at 10 o'clock.
1Sun Dec 15: Quite cool and clear today. Pleasant for Pennsylvania. Went to the Baptist church this fore noon. Wrote two letter in after noon. Mother and Clara Green. Went to bed at 8 o'clock.
1Mon Dec 16: Got up at 5:30 got breakfast and took the steamer Libby for LaConner. This will be the last steam boat ride for a while. Staid on the boat all night on steamer Utsalady.

Thu Dec 19: To day went to Rienzi's claim and laid a foundation. Came back and made an oar. My first carpenters work in Washington Territory. Mer at 38 degrees in the morning.
Fri Dec 20: Mercury at 34 degrees in the morning. Went up to Mr. Allen's, Mr. Trimble's & Highbarger's. Dinner at Mr. Highbarger's. He had a squaw for a wife. Cut an oar stick for R.E.W. and Co.
Sat Dec 21: Staid in the house all day to day - Made an oar - Rained and snowed most all day. 34 degrees of Mercury.
Sun Dec 22: It snowed most all day today. Spent the day writing & reading & talking. Had a little prayer meeting in the evening. The snow filled our bed full & we had to move down and sleep on the floor.

Wed Dec 25: Went to Mr. Allens to a Christmas dinner. Had a good time and got home in good season. Weather warm and rainy.
Thu Dec 26: Today went and laid a foundation on a timber claims. Rained and wet us lustily. After noon laid up Highbargers Rain shed some. Started to come home and laid on the mud till eve. "Had the hardest time we ever had in our life" liked to "Punished"
Fri Dec 27: Went up to Highbargers & got the timber up ther then went to Allens to get Guss and take his boat home. Got in over boot tops Vinz stuck his foot in the mud. Worked on the saga.
Sat Dec 28: Went up to the Highbarger Farm and cut timber to stanchion cattle. Come pretty near getting stuck in the mud as usual.

Mon Dec 30: To day we went to the Highbarger farm & butchered the cow - "Had the worst time we ever had" Pleasant day - but frosty in the morning. They drawed up the lumber and I done the chores. Got home at dark.
Tue Dec 31: Today had the hardest time we ever had. Vinz & Rienzi went to the station - I waded up to Highbargers farm got wet through & through both ways. Had a lame back. A good way to end the year. [margin: Had to wade the slough to get home.]
