Melbourne B.C.C. Tournament 2/21/98

2/23/98 Updates from Darth-Setter.
Below is a summary of the 2/21/98 tournament for those that missed it or have conveniently forgotten: We showed with 6 - Rick, Kurt, Raik, Greg and I met at Rick's and boarded the BLUE GLIDER and picked up Chris on the way to Melbourne. We all got there before 9:00am to find a 4 team, match play tournament (3 matches, best of three to 15 pts.)

We won our first match against "South Park" by not really playing all that well. This came back to haunt us in the second match against "One Time", where we played with equal lethargy and trailed 13-5 in game one. We tied it at 13 and then lost 15-13. We did play better and won game 2 easily and trounced them in the rally scoring third game. Our last match was against "Six Pax" from Gainesville. Again, we lost the first game, but rebounded winning the second 15-1 and then the third rally scoring 15-5. Pretty impressive two games there. The final was one game to 15 vs. "Six Pax" and they were quickly dispatched 15-5.

What can I say? In our last three games we looked like us, but we tend to play down to our competition. Let's not do that any more. Camille joined us on this adventure and we know now, that the BLUE GLIDER can fit 7 and trek on! There were pictures taken and as they get developed, they will find their way to the appropriate hands! Since we won our entry fee back, there was much merriment on our return journey!

DORKSIDE Award. It looked like everyone wanted this one by the way we played early on. For the third time, the infamous free ball was the Dork's undoing. As I went back to serve from the back wall (30 feet behind our end line), I launched this ballistic floater and started to run to the court. Needless to say, the other team shanks the first ball and they had to bump the second ball over in desperation. I'm now on the court and heading to the net - looking back to the service corner (where the ball is going to land) only to hear Kurt say: "You got it." The ball lands untouched and everyone stands looking in disbelief at Kurt. At this point he knows his fate. The Dork signals come out and that is that.

TKA (Thunderous Kaboom Award). No question in my mind here. Raik's X thumper gets the nod. Close second is Raik's one point landing on his lower back/butt from Romine's covered parking roof retrieving Romine's flip-flop! Assist from Greg for not being able to balance him for his descent. Ouch!

Asheville is next. I know Chris, Rick, Wade and I are flying. Shane, Greg, Raik, you need to put a plan together. I'll check with our 8th from NJ this week. We will set up a practice at J.L.L HS sometime in the next three weeks. Keep looking at your EMAILS.
