                                                              When we talk about India’s colo-
                                                              nial past, we normally think about
                                                              the English, who dominated India
                                                              from 1757 to 1947. Thanks to Eric
                                                              Scherrer’s book,  we’re going  to
                                                              take a  look at India before  this
                                                              period, at a time when Denmark
                                                              played an important role in cer-
                                                              tain areas of the country. In fact,
                                                              in the 17th century, although there
                                                              was already a British presence,
                                                              notably in cities like Madras and
                                                              Bombay, there were also Danes in
                                                              the country!
