       Sept.      Dead Moves into 710 Ashbury St., in San Francisco's
                  Haight-Ashberry district

       Oct. 6     California Legislature crimalnizes LSD

1967
       Jan. 14    The Great Human Be In, Golden Gate Park, San         
                  Francisco, Ca. Rock meets anti-Vietnam movement.     
                  Dead join Jefferson Airplane and Quicksilver         
                  Messenger Service before 20,000

      March 17    First album "The Grateful Dead" is released on       
                  Warner Bros.

       June 18    Monterey International Pop Festival. Performing      
                  between Jimmi Hendrix and The Who, the Dead are      
                  bummed by the commercial nature of the event

       Sept. 29   Mickey Hart joins the band as a second drummer

       Oct. 2     710 Ashbury Drug Bust

       Oct. 6     The Digs Ceremony for the "Death Of A Hippy" End of  
                  and Era.

1968   Jan.       Dead and Airplane manage Carousel Ballroom

       Feb. 4     Spiritual godfather Neal Cassidy dies in Mexico.

       April      Dead flee the Haight's crime and hard-drug scene
                  for Marin County

       Aug. 8     Carousel Ballroom Folds

1969   June 7     Janis Joplin joins Pigpen for duet on "Turn On Your
                  Lovelight" at Fillmore West

1970   Jan. 31    New Orleans Police bust the Dead

       March      Harts Father, Lenny, then manager, is caught         
                  embezzling roughly $150,000 from their coffers. No   
                  charges are filled.

1971   Winter     "Truckin" hits No.64 on 'Billboard' charts

       Feb. 18    Hart leaves band to pursue his own music
                  This show was also the ESP experiment with           
                  Maimonides Hospital Research Laboratory where a      
                  subject was in a dream state and the audience        
                  sucessfully transmited four out of six images.


       Oct. 19    Kieth Godchaux joins the band on keyboards

1972   Mar. 25    Donna Godchaux joins the band

       June 17    Pigpens final show, at the Hollywood Bowl

       Aug. 27    Concert at old Renaissance Faire Grounds, Veneta,    
                  Ore., an acid laced reunion with Keesey, regaurded   
                  by tape connoisseurs as one of the Dead's finest.

1973   Mar. 8     Ron McKernan (Pigpen) dies at age 27

       July 28    'Summer Jam' Watkin's Glen, with Allman Brothers and 
                  the Band. Largest Rock'n'Roll gathering in history. 
                  Beat Woodstock with 600,000 in attendence. 
                  (Guiness Book Of World Records)       

1974   Mar. 23    The Sound Test for the 'Wall Of Sound' 641 speakers, 
                  26000-watt sound system, 25 tons,= 3 story building, 
                  takes five semis to move. By October its scrapped as 
                  impractical

       Dec. 31    Last Show at the Winterlands, Hart comes back to     
                  band. Announce indefinite touring suspension to      
                  pursue solo projects

1975              Dead Hiatus, played 4 shows only billed as Jerry and 
                  Friends

1976   June 3     Started touring again

1978   Sep.14-16  Dead perform at the Great Pyramids in Egypt as       
                  Mideast peace talks take place at Camp David.

1979   Feb. 17    Kieth and Donna leave band

       Apr. 22    Brent Mydland joins band

1980   June 14    Mt. St. Helens Exploads during "Fire On The Mountain
                  leaving cars covered with ash in the parking lot.

       July 23    Keith Godchaux dies of injuries suffered in auto     
                  crash.

1981   Sept. 30
       - Oct.17   European tour includes surprise concerts at          
                  Amsterdam's notorious hash bar, the Milk Weg.(The    
                  Milky Way) Bobby's 34th birthday 10-16-81

1982   Sept. 5    US Festival, Devore, Ca. Dead get the 9:30am         
                  "breakfast" slot.

1984   Oct.27     Section for tapers is introduced at Berkeley         
                  concert. Successful experiment becomes standard at   
                  every show.

1985   Jan. 18    Garcia busted for drug possession in Golden Gate     
                  Park. Pleads guilty, performs community service.

1986              Dead does title music for TV show Twilight Zone

       June 26
       - July 7   Dead tour with Bob Dylan and Tom Petty on Same Bill.

       July 10    Jerry collapses in diabetic comma, is unconscious    
                  for 24 hours. Tour is canceled

       Dec. 15    Concerts resume in Oakland. First number of the      
                  first show is Garcia singing "Touch of Grey," whose  
                  chorus, 'I will survive,' leaves few dry eyes


1987   April      Cherry Garcia ice cream is introduced by Ben &       
                  Jerry's

       July 6     "Touch Of Grey" # 9 'Billboards'

       Sept.17    Garcia and Weir on 'Letterman'. Weir "levitates"     
                  Jerry in strange parlor trick.

       Sept.19    Jerry sets a record for the most nights sold out on  
                  Broadway in the least amount of time 18 nights in 15 
                  minutes

1988   Winter     Forbes 500 lists Grateful Dead as # 32 Top Grossing  
                  Entertainers

       Feb. 12    Dead takes BAMMIES, best lp,guitarist,bassist,drum

       Feb. 12    Jerry gets Bay Area Musician of the Year

       April      Jerry does 501 jeans commercial (radio)

       Sept. 14   Press conference at the United Nations regarding the 
                  distruction of the Rain Forests, Mickey Hart speaks.



1989   Winter     Garcia's launches artistic endevor #2. Beginning     
                  with his painting "Wetlands I" which goes on sale    
                  first.

       Aug. 19    Last show at Berkeley's Greek Theatre, which the     
                  band now avoids because of ticketless, unmanageable  
                  crowds.

       Oct. 9     Dead perform "Dark Star," a spacey fan favorite      
                  heard sporadically since the 70's, in Hampton, Va.,  
                  for the first time since July 13, 1984, 359 shows    
                  ago. Thousands of Deadheads rejoice.

1990   Summer     Dead and Rex Foundation sponser Creating our
                  Future Day Camp

       July 26    Brent Mydland dies at age 37 of cocaine and
                  morphine overdose

       Sep. 7     Vince Wellneck joins band on piano, Richfield,       
                  Coliseum

       Sep. 30    Bruce Hornsby joins band unofficially

1991   Winter     Forbes 500 lists the Grateful Dead as # 30
                  Top Grossing Entertainers

                  Various artists record Dead tunes to help the Rain
                  Forests, Released as "Deadicated"    

       Summer     Rob Wasserman, Bob Weir, and Hot Tuna tour
                  after costs the proceeds go to Rain Forest

       August     501 Jeans commercial released featuring Billy
                  Grillo setting up the stage at Giants Stadium

       Aug. 26    Grateful Dead Comix releases their first comic
                  book. Features Dead songs put to comic strip
                  stories

       Oct. 25    Bill Graham Dies at age 60


1992              The band switches from on stage monitors to in the   
                  ear monitors. this is actually an incredible         
                  technological development and will in years to come  
                  banish ALL on stage monitor systems. One sighted
                  plus from Garcia is the improved harmonies that can  
                  be achieved because of this new system. Bob also     
                  mixed acoustic guitar a few times throughout the     
                  year.



       January    Mickey Hart's 'Planet Drum' wins Grammy.
                  Category of World Music.


       March      Band helps Lithuanian Olympic basketball team by     
                  donating $50,000. Deadhead sports marketer Mike       
                  Fitzgerald supplies the team with tie-dyed Dead      
                  warm-up suits and T-shirts. Same year as The Dream   
                  Team.

       Mar. 24    Last show for Bruce Hornsby as a regular
       
       May 22     J. Garcia Designer Ties introduced at                
                  Bloomingdale's.

       July       Ski makers K2, Olin, and Pre opened a subsidiary     
                  called Lunatic Fringe Inc., that makes skis bearing  
                  GD logos. The Dark Star Alpine Ski(Olin RTS), Skull  
                  and Lightning Bolt, and Roses are the first to be    
                  produced.

                  Bob Weir goes in as co-owner of a Santa Monica,      
                  California, seafood restaurant called The Reel Inn.

       Aug. 11    Jerry has severe exaustion, touring ceased till the  
                  end of December. Chronic Heart failure cause.

       December   Hillary Rodham Clinton orders set of J. Garcia ties
                  for the President-elect. 

                  Deadheads from the WELL(computer network) payed for  
                  a billboard to protest Colorado's Admendment 2. It   
                  reads Ain't No Time To Hate - Undo 2 - Deadheads      
                  Against  Discrimination. Ran through the month.




1993              
       Mar. 16    Capitol Hill Reception held in the Great Hall of the 
                  Library of Congress, sponsered by Sen. Patrick       
                  Leahy, of Vermont, to honor "The Spirit Cries: Music 
                  Of The Rainforest," produced and recorded by Mickey  
                  Hart. Induction into the National Archives.

       Apr. 12    Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Vince Wellnick sing the
                  National Anthem for the Giant's Home Opener

       June 25    Vice President's wife, Tipper Gore turns down invite 
                  to formor President Richard Nixon's wife, Pat        
                  Nixon's furneral, in order to be able to take her    
                  staff to the Grateful Dead concert at RFK. 

       August     Bob Weir has surgery for the removal of nodes on his 
                  throat.


       Summer     Jerry records a children story written by Stephen    
                  King called 'My Pretty Pony' on Random House Books   
                  on Tape.

       Summer     Phil Lesh competed in Pro-Am celebrity car race.
       

       Sept. 13   Dead rank #17 in top earning entertainers by the     
                  Forbes 500 $33 million

     
       December   First issue of The Grateful Dead Almanac is          
                  released. This the first effort in over a decade for 
                  the Dead to put out a news letter.

       Dec. 16    J.Garcia silk shirts, scarfs, and vests go on sale   
                  at Bloomingdales, Macys.


1994              Billy Kreutzman becomes first Grateful Dead
                  Grandfather. Daughter Stacey has child.


       Jan.       The Dead are the highest grossing band on tour for
                  1993, making over 45.6 million bucks in 1993. 
                  Rod Stewart was #2 with $30.5 million and
                  Neil Diamond was #3 with $29.8 million.


       Jan. 19    Grateful Dead Inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of    
                  Fame


       Feb. 14    Jerry Garcia marries Deborah Koons, longtime friend 
                  and filmaker.

       Mar. 14    Dan Healy Leaves band as Concert Sound Guru, he was 
                  the main man behind the board during concerts since
                  the late 60's. John Cutler takes his place.
 
	Apr. 21   Bob Weir cancels tour with Robb Wasserman, 
		  sites problem as post tour exaustion


	May 11	  Phil Lesh is guest conductor for the Berkeley Symphony


	Aug. 13	  Woodstock `94 Bob & Rob play with The Band, Hot Tuna,
		  and Bruce Hornsby. Set list includes I Shall Be Released, 
		  Fever, Spoonful, Eternity, Throwing Stones.


	Sep. 24   Phil Lesh and Friends - acoustic show to benefit
		  Berkeley Boys Choir.
