How do I set up my microphones for a stereo recording
?
90 Degree X-Y configurations
This is the most common
form of stereo recording, the 90 degree X-Y configuration. Here careful attention
should be paid to the vertical alignment of the diaphram inside the capsule.
The smaller the error the better the focus and depth of the recording. The
horizontal displacement is not critical and can be adjusted to accomadate
larger microphones or the use of windscreens. This works well with both cardiod
and hypercardiod microphones. This is our recommended starting point for
all new recording engineers. We find that all large diaphram microphones
must be set up in this manner to assure satisfing results.
