Coincident Taping Methods - Binaural Technique
  • The last of these near coincident methods commonly used is the Binaural technique. This is intended specifically for playback on a pair of headphones. It is most often setup as a pair of omnidirectional microphones placed onto a dummy head or worn on ones own head. This yields results which are quite impressive , with a very realistic illusion of space in both the vertical and horizontal planes. The quasibinaural method employs two omnidirectional microphones spaced about 75 to 100 cm apart with a sound absorbing baffle in between them. This provides enough cross channeling information to yield very good results when played back on loudspeakers (which a dummy head recording won't do).
