Test-Mode Info on the Tascam DA-P1
To access the test modes for the Tascam DAP-1, hold down the STOP, F. FWD and REW keys while powering up the unit. To exit the test mode power down the unit.
- The block error rate mode is the default mode entered when
the test mode system is engaged. You will see "br" where the
PGM NO. is normally displayed. The "margin reset key will
restore the unit to the error rate display mode from any other
test mode. It will also toggle the display from "A" head (AH)
to "B" head (bH) to "A+B" head (Ab). The error rate counter is
used to gauge the relative performance of the machine or a given
tape. It is useful to have a reference tape reserved for testing
on hand. You can make your own by recording a section of tape (
preferably a 60 minute tape) and noting the error rates upon
playback. This is best done when the deck is new or on a new deck
that belongs to a friend. Use this tape only for future testing.
Any error rates below 300 are completely corrected. There is no
difference in data sent to the D/A convertor or the digital output
with error rates between 0300 and 0000. If the tape is good and the
machine is in good shape, you should see error rates below 0100 and
often below 0010. When error rates start to climb, clean the heads.
- The mechanical test mode is entered by pressing the ID SELECT key
with the unit in the stop mode. Playback your test tape and the display
should read "PASS" after a few seconds. This indicates the microprocessor
has detected no problems with the transport mechanism. If a problem is
detected, an error code will be reported. Always make a note of the
reported code or codes for your technician, as the problem may prove to
be intermittent.
- The System Data Display mode is activated by pressing the COUNTER MODE key. The COUNTER MODE key toggles the display thru the following modes:
- Version Number i.e. "ur" "01m05" for version 1.05 (the best one).
- Category Code (only true when receiving data thru the digital port). "C0" for DAT (consumer) "C1" for DAT-P (pro) "80" for CD
- Cbit Data (only true when receiving data thru the digital port). This data not appropriate for this level of discussion.
- Pack Item Number (only true when playing back a recorded tape). This data not appropriate for this level of discussion.
- Battery Voltage Indication: i.e. "bt" 6h50u" for 6.50 volts
- Date Indication : i.e. "dt" 80216" for 98(yr), 02(month), 16(day).
- System Data ( only true when playing back a recorded tape).
