And waiting in the shallows as I do
Appeases me as water slowly trickles out
Which isn't nearly fast enough for you.

  It isn't nearly fast enough for you.

*This Bb/D might really simply be an Eb/D.

Here's the music to a tune I've loved for a long time...I had to wait for the album to get a clean version. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I do!

Disclaimer-of-sorts: I think I got fairly close on the solo chords, but they go by pretty fast and I don't always catch the details like extensions off the basic chord.

These days, I find that I have to balance between my desire to get it exactly right and my desire to avoid overplaying and eventually hating the tune in question. SO, as always, please let me know about any corrections that you come up with.

I considered transcribing out the solo, but I wanted to get this out ASAP so I bagged it for now. Anybody want to take up the reins?

BTW, the rhythm isn't in any way reflected here, you may try listening to it to get the right feel...

I wanted to share a little secret that I learned while figuring out the song "From The Beginning", by Emerson, Lake, & Palmer in the hazy, distant past. It involves combining open strings with notes fretted higher up on the neck, creating a nice lush, "open" sound when the notes are left ringing. Check it out... And dare to do what was an unguarded scene.

My Friend, My Friend

From: David Douglas McCallum <kcjonz@wam.umd.edu>

Although the melody line for the intro is a bit involved to write out here, the chords are pretty straightforward.

Theme 1:
|: D G/D D G/D D A (Bm7/A->A7) A G/A F#m/A A7 Bm7 A (falling chords: G6b5, F#m7, Fmaj7#5, A)

This then leads into one of the 3 endings below:

1
---------------
A E G C Fm Bbm Abm G (falling single note Bb->A->Ab) C G Bb Eb Abm Dbm Ebm D :|

2
---------------
A Bm Dm A B7 E (A/E->E7) E+5 AbmMaj7 Eb Db E Am B A/B B A/B B A/B B G Am Cm G A D :|

3
---------------
A Bm Dm A B7 E (A/E->E7) G C Fm Bbm Abm G (w/falling note) C G Bb Eb Abm Dbm Ebm

[at 2:26]. The chord at this point, where the regular chord progression and vocals come in, is the regular chord progression with a E ringing over it--very cool dissonence!

First, the voicings I use...

   Chords for verse | Chords for solo

    Fm7 F#13   Bb7 C#7 C7| Fm F#6 Gdim G# Adim Bbm Bdim C
E-|-13---x-----1---4-----|--------------------------------

D-|-13---14----3---6---2-|-3--4---5----6--7----8---9---10-
A-|-x----x-----1---4---3-|--------------------------------
E-|-13---14--------------|--------------------------------

Now, the rhythm for the chords in the verse is more-or-less bass note on the first beat of the measure, then the rest of the chord on the third beat.

                                             F/A
Of a darkness the light from above could not reach

                                        Eb/G
I spied wings of reason, herself taking flight
                                  F/A
And upon yonder precipice saw her alight
                                       Eb/G
And glared back at me one last look of dismay
                                              G
As if she were the last one she thought I'd betray

(Second verse same chords as the first)
So much the better I said to myself
And drawing quite close to the top of the shelf
I struggled with destiny upon the ledge
And gasped when defeated he slipped off the edge

And silence contagious in moments like these
Consume me and strengthen my will to appease
The passion that sparked me one terrible night
And shocked and persuaded my soul to ignite

Silent in the morning
From: Eric Berman <ericbe@microsoft.com>

G
My glance is always darting, when I stroll the avenue
Avoiding all the obstacles that terrorize my view
C                                                G
If you are here with me, I trust you'll lead the way

And peels back slowly from your knee.
 G               C
Erupts into your lung at heart.
    G         D         (G)
You Laugh and laughing, fall apart.

The F really makes the difference here.... Without it, it's like any other 1-4-5 kind of song....
