Repeat riff

Then revelling in mirror mask, I soon was lost in foggy ditch
Without a feather grey or white to tickle that piano witch
Fearing that I must expose my worm to holographic haze
My clinometer error rose, and spawned in her new mawkish ways!

Cracklin Rose
From: BB (edgar@coos.dartmouth.edu)
From: "Benjamin M. Brainard" <Benjamin.M.Brainard@dartmouth.edu>
(Song by Neil Diamond)

O.k., so I went out and found _Neil Diamond's 12 Greatest Hits_. Not a bad album, by a long stretch, but it leads me to a question for all the guitarists out there. What do you think the chords are? From listening to the recording, I've determined that it's based around the I-IV-V progression, and it starts on D. something like (using the words from the lyric file):
D
Cracklin Rosie get on board,
 D G
We're gonna ride 'til there ain't no more to go.
G
Takin it slow. Lord don't you know,
X A D <--what goes on this line?
Happily a time when the poor man's let be...

repeat

D G A D G A
Oh, I love my Rosie child, you got the way to make me happy.
You and me, we go in style.
X <--what is this one?
Cracklin' Rose, you're a store-bought woman,
X <-- and this one?
You make me sing like a guitar hummin.
X <-- and this one?
Hang on to me, girl, our song keeps runnin' on.
--we all know the chords here....;-)--
Play it now, Play it now, Play it now my lady!

then it just keeps going, and the key change after the second "Play it now!" just raises everything a half-step.

thanks, and to anyone who hasn't heard the original version, go to your library and check out the album!!!!

Mike's Groove
From kassak@athena.mit.EDU
From: kcjonz@wam.umd.edu (David Douglas McCallum)

The beginning I sense goes as C#m D A... What about the rest?

Well, I started this one with the best of intentions, setting out to TAB the whole thing, but I fizzled out after not too long! The end of Mike's Song isn't very complicated, but I couldn't think of a way to express it easily and compactly, so I kind-of "punted" and described it to the best of my ability.

Intro riff: repeat thru verse

[note: Words marked with an "*" are sung at the same time as the "E-A" double stop in the intro riff]

*                     D                  A
Trapped in time and I don't know what to do

My Mind's Got a Mind of It's Own
From: David Douglas McCallum <kcjonz@wam.umd.edu>
chorus: My mind's got a mind of its own
It takes me out a-walkin' when I'd rather stay at home
It takes me out to parties when I'd rather be alone
My mind's got a mind of its own

I've been doing things I thought I'd never do
I've been getting into trouble without ever meaning to
I no sooner settle down when I'm right back up again
I feel just like a leaf out in the wind

Chorus
I seem to forget half the things I start
I try to build a house and then I tear the place apart
I freeze myself on fire and then I'd burn myself on ice
I canUt count to one without thinking twice

Chorus
I tell myself to do the things I should
And then I get to thinkin' that them things ain't any good
I tell myself the truth but I know I'm lying like a snake
You can't walk on water at the bottom of a lake

Note: NICU debuted as "In An Intensive Care Unit" - 3/6/92; NICU stands for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit .

  Eb Db Eb [repeat]
Appendages flailing, you're running at me
Ferocious, tenaciously clawing at me
The devious gelatin holding me fast
Miraculous now you let me ooze past.

Over the wall rushing rivers of sleaze
The tip of stalactites incising my knees
A slipper, a sand-dollar day at the shore
Nice evening at home that I dread even more

          Ab Db
Would you please make clear to me
    Ab Eb Ab
I'm peering out through your opacity
             Ab Db
Though you rehearse tomorrow's verse
   Ab Eb Ab
Forgive me if I donUt sing in your key.

Look back on those days when my life was a haze
The gelatin lay on a truncated slate
Copernicus drank from a vessel that stank
The freemasons crank to the overflow tank

Bane of the weasel, fur biting is fun
Jump on the turnstile and watch me go round
Swim with the cactus and float with the stone
I try to convey what you strive to condone

Would you please make clear to me
I'm peering out through your opacity
Though you rehearse tomorrow's verse
Forgive me if I donUt sing in your key.

Would you please [In all that dust and stone]
make clear to me [___ when you see me]
Why nothing is the first thing that I see
                               [??? (possibly "Don't go")]
And if you do [In all that dirt and stone]
and I see you [___ when you see me]
Then you will be the nothing left for me

Rocky Top (Recorded by the Osborne brothers, but written by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant.
Ranked #47 of all time by Country America magazine, October '92 issue)

Tempo is brisk, accentuate the downstroke 4/4 time / = downstroke, ^ = upstroke. (included to help you figure out the timing)

(This came out of an EZ play organ book, and note that it is in the key of CMaj. I don't have a recording of this, but it's very possible that any recorded version would be in different key)

Runaway Jim
From Tim Fallon <no net access>

Here comes Runaway Jim, real basic stuff:
  Intro: D-C-G (4/4 time)

  verse: D
         Had a dog.....

         C G D
     Runaway Runaway Runaway

       C G/B Am7 F D
       Whoaaaaaaah oh Runaway jim

And that's it for the song. The only thing to note is after the second verse there is a written out passage. It's pretty easy to figure out as it is in the key of D. It's a whole lot more fun to just make it up as you go. After the last verse of the song is the part where you can really let your hair down and wail, if it strikes you to. This jam is done over the chorus' progression.
Suzi Greenburg
From Tim Fallon <no net access>

      D C G
Little.... Greenberg....Head caved.. (same for all verses)

     C A D
    Suzy.....Artist...paints

      C A G7
Better first get checked by a neurologist

The chords to the chorus are the same as the first part of the verse,
                D ->C ->G

After the chorus they go to Em for a few measures then they go right back into D for Page's piano jam. Suzy Greenberg is a fairly simple song, which could be why it sounds so damn big in concert.

The next time I visit Brown maybe I'll get the chance to put some more tunes on the net. That would be fun, no? Have a good one and say "Yay!" at least once a day.
