George was a cornish, so many Burnley folk are along with Londoners. The industrial expansion
of the North required a very much bigger population in Burnley than the initial 700 that eventually
became 100,000 as the worlds largest cotton town. The cornish took over the Lowerhouse, and
the Irish took over the Croft & Park. The croft was a real croft, with three croft cottages, wild blackberries with elderberries and lemons growing in profusion, so says Hugh Gallagher. |
