It’s great when you find that great things are made in your country. Burel Factory is located in Manteigas, north of Portugal. They produce the most amazing textiles products, with the traditional material but with a new and irreverent design. This film was shot for Monocle magazine.

André Bastos Teixeira is the owner and designer at La Paz, a menswear store in Porto on Rua Miguel Bombarda , the city-centre hotspot where shoppers flock to find trendy designers , boutique stores and a string of avant-garde art galleries.Best known for its Port wine , quirky book stores and river cruises the sleepy city of Porto is steeped in tradition and appears to be frozen in time. But dig a little deeper and visitors can find a modern creative side to the city in its award winning architecture, design hotels , chic boutiques and cutting edge fashion houses. La Paz lines are all 100 percent made in Portugal and are exported all over the world helping to keep the labour intensive and high quality local textile industry afloat with little of no help from the Portuguese government. The store also imports items from Sri Lanka and Africa giving it an eclectic and ethnic vibe.

Papabubble is an artisan candy store in Lisbon which produces freshly made products every day where customers can order made-to-measure candy for local events and individual tastes. Lisbon's Baixa district is undergoing widespread urban regeneration, allowing new businesses to flourish while preserving the old facades. Papabubble combines retro recipes and traditional techniques with creative design and packaging from lemondrops sold in glass jars to rainbow coloured lollypops.
