The function of each tool on the various Toolbars is described at the bottom of the window whenever the cursor is over the tool.
All main functions are available though the menus and the toolbar, but also from the context menus.
The tree list displayed in the document's view contains some main icons. Each icon represents a different category of information.
User interface is fully configurable, select View/Preferences to check all possibilities.
Use the preferences to control the application's main features and also drag'n drop settings.
Right click into the document view and onto the desktop area to try the context menus.
Accessibility of functions like Add, Erase and Properties depends on the selected item. Some features are not accessible with main category or default items.
To add a new item in the current category, just use Edit/Add Current or use its associated shortcuts.
To add a particular item regardless of the selected category, select the corresponding item in Edit/New popup menu.
Use Install/Background to fully configure your installer graphical aspect with powerfull functions.
Use Install/General Settings to set all default parameters and minimum requirements for install.
You can display a license agreement when installing your package, just add a file named license.txt on the first disk, and check the option in General Settings.
You can use default and run-time variables in WIN.INI, registry values and command line arguments. A variable must be included between one '[' and one ']'.
A run-time variable can be a zero-based directory index (0 for the first displayed directory, and so on...). For example [0] will be replaced by the first directory path at install time. This is very usefull to save parameters available only at that time.
Install Wizard can be used to add shortcuts into Windows special folders (start, desktop...). Before doing so, you have to declare the special folder like any other program group, using a particular syntax based on run-time variables.
Install Wizard now have a few assistants to help you modifying Windows parameters without being a registry expert. Check them out from the "Tools" menu.
You can ask end-user registration by checking the associated option in General Settings.
Registration data are also available as run-time variables. Use [u] for user, [c] for organization and [s] for serial number.
Add the installation date into the registry or WIN.INI by using [d] as a run-time variables in WIN.INI or registry values.
Install Wizard provide support for usage counters for shared files or DLLs (by updating Windows registry in 32bits only)... Just add [+] as the registry value with the correct key and subkey. The usage counter for the file will be incremented or created.
When Uninstalling, UnSetup Wizard will check the usage counter under Windows 32bits and will remove the shared files correctly.
If your computer if connected to a messaging system, use File/Send to attach your script to a new message before sending it !
You can toggle the tree's icons size by using the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+Backspace.
MakSetup Wizard is an Ole server, that means you can include a script in any container application's documents (i.e. Word, WordPro, Lotus, Excel etc...)
You can create a new script by right-clicking your desktop and selecting New/MakSetup Script.
Use Install/Check Integrity to test your script's integrity and make sure everything seems correct before generating.
Use Install/Summary to display a brief summary of your installation.
Your install package doesn't have to install files, you can also use Install Wizard only to make system changes to a computer.
Use Install/Generate to copy all necessary files (yours and Install Wizard's) onto the desired media.
Once your script has been generated, you can re-generate the script only by selecting Install/Generate Script. Use this option to save any changes not implying a new file.
You can test your install package without leaving MakSetup Wizard. Just select Install/Test after generation.
Include an other script's information into yours by using Edit/Merge option.
You can choose a directory to be optionnal (see its properties), so that the end-user will be able to choose not to install the files contained into it.
Instead of adding a file one by one, set the drag'n drop parameters, prepare your installation including files and directories, open the explorer and drag'n drop the main directory onto the document's view.
When drag'n dropping, you can choose to add only files, only directories, or even both... and lots of other options, see the Drag'n drop settings in the preferences window.
